*sigh* Why do game developers keep on insisting on making WW1/WW2 games? Don't they realize that we want something new and different? If we really wanted to go play a WW2, we'd go play COD 3. Let's just hope that, after this, they will learn something.

Why not COD5: Future Wars

No one's made a WWI game, AFAIK. It wouldn't be exciting, trenches and stalemates and gas, oh my! Also zeppelins. The only worthwhile combat would be in zeppelins.

I'd like to jab people with bayonets and use my Ross rifle at close range only to have it jam and be useless for close range fighting anyways.

I made a ww1 mod for ce. using both AI and no AI. in both cases it played incredibly realistic....and that was terrible, one team would rush and die before they made it past middle. second team would counter and same thing. then people would just blow up from artillery.

TBH, i love ww2 fps's. However the only good one is day of defeat and that doesn't even have a campaign. Honestly i've kind of wanted them to make a new cod using the gameplay + graphics of cod4 except have it be back in ww2. yes it's been redone far to many times but still can't rule out the fact that it won't be fun. Only one minor problem....Treyarch? who the fuck are they? iirc cod3 was the worst out of the entire series. GTFO PLZ. but online co-op does sound fun.

I doubt it will sell well, unless its on COD4's look/realism level, which it pretty much will be as its using that engine.

Players (majority) want new ideas, new gameplay, just bashing out another WW2 game, it will get some sells yes, but seriously is it helping improve gaming? Not really.

@ itszutak (http://www.modacity.net/forums/member.php?u=21)

I think its due to the fact society accepts WW2 more than the cold war, cold war was rather dark, sure WW2 was terrible, but its like movies, theres tons of WW2 compared to the cold war.

A WW2 game could still be fun, it just needs a different perspective, more than just a different group of people you fight. Perhaps a city of polish people has been taken over by the nazi's and you are a civilian and have grouped together with a few others and have to battle to take back the city.

The minute I saw COD3 I quit paying attention to the franchise. Here's to boycotting every last WW2 and super-soldier-ripoff game out there.

It feels like they've taken the *insert popular sports game franchise here* path now. You know, the "ship the same game with updated graphics and a few minor name/stat tweaks" method? Can't wait to hear the Call of Duty '09 announcement.

QFT. Another ww2 game... Hasn't this generation of gamers slaughtered enough virtual axis power soldiers?

Edit: On another side of the issue, however, WWII is a prime choice because it was the last "pure" war. By that I mean it was the last war that everyone agreed that their nation needed to be a part of. Hitler was a monster, Mussolini (spelling?) was his lackey, and the Japanese emperor (don't remember his name) was power hungry and aggressive. The people knew they had to be stopped. It was also the last war without the threat of nuclear devastation (until the bomb was actually used). I don't know of any other large war since then that was thought of as a necessity. Since then there have been plenty of small war's that were escalated by unnecessary competition between two world powers like the Vietnam war or the Korean war. Not counting wars that are still going of course.

haha yes that too. Of course if you ask a history teacher/ overly patriotic American, then the Vietnam war was a "police action" and the Korean war isn't over because a treaty was never signed.

Vietnam would suck. A lot. Korean War wouldn't be great either, simply because of it's outcome. Who would want to play through the game and completely own and kill 10,000 Koreans or Americans, and then come to the end of the game, just to have it say "lol it wuz a stalemate gg"

then start your own gaming company. you can't expect an american company to make a game that makes us the shitty ones and the foreigners the heroes, especially in a ww2 era game where the majority of the soldiers believed in hitler and his cause. Now if they made you play as a youth/random soldier who was forced against his will and witnesses a bunch of horrible shit, then that might make a good story, but other then that you want to play as a japanese guy who rapes then murders a bunch of woman after taking over a chinese city? or maybe the guy who murders hundreds of POWs by burning them alive because you don't want the enemy to have them back. Because the enemies of america are so fucking compasionate that everyone would love to play as them.

also only thing i'm sick of from ww2 is the shitty graphics and poor level design. if they can make a ww2 game up to par with cod4 i'll be rather content. ww2 games always seem to make for awesome firefights.

I know what you mean. Modern guns ftw.
suicide plz. Early 90's weapons are some of the most beautiful, accurate, and durable weapons every crafted. I would buy a Springfield 1903/M1 over a modern gun any day, even a mosin/kar.
Of course after I got one of them I'd buy an m4 cause they do look quite sexy ^_^

Bah, this is a prime example of Activision being a faggot and forcing yearly CoD sequels, rather than keeping Infinity Ward at the helm and producing the highest-quality material possible.

I really don't want to see another fucking Thompson, and judging by Treyarch's "take what's there and just tack on more" approach, that's all I'll probably be doing.

Well yesterday I was watching X-Play on G4 Tech TV and in the Gaming Update it actually showed some footage of what looked like a very damn good looking game (better looking than COD4) where what looks like two American soldiers rushing a Tiger tank. One was in Point of View mode and the other soldier you saw get hit in the head and his helmet flies off. The guy you're looking at in first person runs up to a german and wrestles the MP44 out of his hands and beats him down with it. The video cut off there. Visually, it looks promising but I can't say much about the story because in all, the footage was probably 15 seconds long or maybe even less.

Also I don't really find COD4 all that visually pleasing. The graphics just look so...smudged kinda. I find the textures bland on all versions of the game (X360, PS3, PC). Only at certain parts of the game does it resemble photo-realism.

I agree with this, I would rather see something new, and original, rather than something that has been done many times, over and over again. I mean, sure, it's good to learn your history through different ways, but we don't want to learn it 50 times over again.

Well, it's not even that historical shooters are getting old, it's that it's the same fucking part of history over and over and over again.

World War II makes a great setting for games, particularly aimed at Americans.
There's basically not a trace of guilt at the idea of slaughtering viciously demonized Nazis (although they did mostly do that for themselves.) Essentially every modern weapon type is available in a nice simple form. The front moves and can be located on any terrain.

But it's tired, tired like your mom after me last night. Zing. Knowing a game is set in WWII is an immediate turn off for me. Even I as a fairly hardcore Jewish gamer have long since tired of slaughtering Nazis.

@ modern American civil war
