We have a compilation of the funniest; how about the most incredible?

I'll start:

Meet the king of birds, the Golden Eagle. Known in certain parts of Russia and central Asia as 'berkut'. Now you can see where the alias comes from, and probably why.

holy shit.

they said we were at least 15 years away from photorealism in videogames, but goddamn, it looks like we're nearly there.
I guess we still have the uncanny valley to get through, but I mean goddamn it if you tripled the polygon count in that first image and fixed up the water surface and fixed the UV stretching/seams on the rocks and added more depth to the textures via parallax and fixed a couple of other minor rendering errors, that scene could pass for a photo barring close inspection.

Ok, so we're not there yet, but still.
Goddamn that's impressive. I want to work in this field. Imagine Halo done with Havoc's physics and Crytec's rendering- it almost makes me want to drop everything and do a total conversion mod for Halo 1. But I won't.

You're telling me someone happened to be looking at a building and in the 1 second its actually there they had time to snap a picture of it without being blinded? Lightning heats the air around it to the temperature of the friggin sun, you're not going to be getting that close of picture and see just that.

I watched lightening strike a man and his son on the beach and kill them both. I was about 4 cars distance away. We could smell the flesh. I wasn't blinded or toasted. Did hurt my ears though.

This is pretty cool, too bad it's out of focus.

Here it is from another angle:

My cousin told me that it's dangerous when you fire all the cannons like that because you can topside the boat.

Right on there, it's a picture taken of a planet about 25 light years from here, according to what I've read. Yes, I've seen that before, just about half an hour ago actually.

Holyshithugeimage. Shot tags please?

Awesome image regardless, I always liked the shock wave you can see sometimes when things break the sound barrier.

Don't know if it's already been posted but meh.

Anyways, looking at those impressive images again, i remember that I've always wondered if that's really the way we would see the respective objects if we had a well enough amateur telescope or if that's really just NASA showing us paintings. :tinfoil:

Well, I do believe many of them are false color images, getting their color from spectra invisible to the naked eye, but if that's the case, that just makes it more amazing, because we're seeing stuff that's there but would normally be imperceptible.

I love space. I want to live there.
