For some who do not remember me I am wildhusky. A long time ago I posted a imo horrible spartan laser model compared to my latest version. I only recently remade my model after seeing Hunter's Laser. Also after I found a tutorial on halomods about plane modeling. So I decided to showcase the major improvement from my old model to my new model.
Things to take note of :
The model is not uvw unwraped (If someone replies with a good tutorial I will try to in my spare time)
No texture has been created (due to uvw ^)
Model as of now was modeled in 3dsmax 9
No errors that I know of, yet I have not ran the model through tool.
Release pending on public response( send me a private message if you want to attempt to put the model in halo ce)
No the model is not finished I would like to improve based on user feedback yet I am limited to based on time and my personal life

Hopefully that fixes the pixels

Do you have a higher quality picture, because the SpartanLaser that you are showing us seems, how do I put this?, pixelated.

The handle looks awful. Also I wouldn't release any model without a triangle and poly count. Those are vital to get it in game.

I can get vert and face count. Sorry it has been a while since I have become familiar with 3dsmax.
Vert : 3792
Face: 3327

That actually looks pretty nice. Needs some work but its a big improvement, and i'm really honored that I am encouraging someone Lol.
Please could you get a higher res pictures as Spartan said.
Can really see how it is modelled. And please make some wireframe renders using this tutorial:
Make a render as shown in the first post, then make another render as shown in the 2nd post. Please (http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9328)

Ok after looking at the rendering tutorial I came up with this:

Used link because the resolution is 1000x750

After looking at the higher res one I have to say great job. The handle bar could use a little work, but other then that I don't immediatly see any problems.

Grips look ridiculous. Imagine yourself actually trying to hold that, then do it again :|

Can someone tell me where the "grip" is becasue you all hate everyones Splazer's grips and theirs like 3 things that could be a grip.

I believe the grip wold be the thing sticking down closer to the front, the part with the trigger looks more like a handle to me.

Re-render the model using these render settings http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9328 will make a much better, clearer image.

Check out Haloguru's and Hunter's reference website. I am sure you can find Spartan Laser models to model after there. Because some parts don't look right but it looks great for a start :D.

Delete handle and re do it. And tidy up the faces. And have you placed two skylights by mistake because it seams very bright.

Ok after taking a look over the tutorial one more time and seeing how i am not rushed this time I have came up with a new render. Seems I had misplaced some of the omni lights. Also I have added some "grips" to the handle.

Are you using my renders for a reference? Because the handle is the same as mine. Try and make yours a bit different than mine.
Like the actual Halo 3 one.
But keep working on the details.

Yes I am using yours. I went to your website for references and the spartan laser doesn't show up. If someone can supply a good reference I will change it. So far my reference is an old blue print =P.

Remember, the handle is supposed to fold in when not in use. Try to design it and the surrounding area around that concept if you're going for h3 accuracy.

The Spartan Laser still needs adding. Soz about that. I will ask HaloGuru for the ftp details and sort it out for you.

Handle is updated for folding. Details still need to be added.

Well that's not much better. A hollow handle like that wont be comfortable to grip. Not ergonomic enough. What you need to do is adjust the area of the laser where the handle attaches so it can fold upwards without clipping.

Ok I found a reference and the new way seems much better. The handle is no longer hollow and the area around the trigger is fixed yet did not have time to re render the picture. More references would be greatly appreciated. Also anyone have a tutorial on how to extrude using splines???

Lmao. Did you see the way my handle folds up or did you think of that your self? Because I made mine folder up exactly the same Lol.
Also, you shouldnt need any more references because I only used about 2 or 3 if that.

It's hard to see with the low-res, the handles off and some details and things are out of proportion, also someone already made one, why do people insist on making stuff that's already made by the original :[

Final model until the uvw gets done also a sneak peak at my next project. I can possibly take any requests when I finish the new current project.

Define irony: People ask for a set of weapon tags, we tell them to go make it themselves. People start making it themselves, we tell them to stop copying other people.
