so I have a ~$150 budget, and I'd like to get a new digital camera. I don't know much about what to look for except I would like the best bang for the buck, and manual controls are preferable. Sharpness and detail is also a big plus. Maybe some of you photographer guys can recommend something?

I like, open to alternatives though.

You can pretty much only afford a point and click with that. They're all pretty much the same along the guideline of the higher the price the slightly better the sensor that takes the picture.

Whatever you get, review highly. Most good review sites will give you pictures of various method's of use, so you can see if it will work for your desired needs.

I dunno if it's just me, but I find Sony cameras extremely easy to use over others. I find that I spend more time looking for the function I want on a Canon camera as opposed to a Sony camera, but that's just me. I've heard great things about the PowerShot A590 and I see that Newegg has good reviews for it.

Um...notice how only mods have posted in this thread until me?

I love it <3 great quality pics, lots of manual features, nice macro, and the video was way better than I expected.

I was going to suggest this (http://www.officemax.com/omax/catalog/sku.jsp?skuId=21523497&cm_mmc=GBase-_-Electronics-_-Digital_Cameras_Camcorders-_-Ease_of_Use_Digital_Cameras&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=21523497) but I came too late. I got it for about $10 cheaper, and I love it. But oh well. That seems like a good camera, with a lot more power to it.

Indeed. It's pretty hard to find, though. Lot of the stores I went to didn't carry it. I guess they don't have a sense of humor.

I got this (http://www.amazon.com/Kodak-EasyShare-12-1MP-Digital-Optical/dp/B00127Y3SA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1215058308&sr=8-6) and it worked really well during my trip to Japan. Pretty good price too, looking at the quality and zoom level.
