DreamSpark is a microsoft program to give students free software, such as Visual Studio 2008 or a free XNA 1 year subscription which would let you put user made games onto your xbox 360.

I am currently downloading visual studio 2008 legally and free of charge.

No link? =<.

Link. (https://downloads.channel8.msdn.com/) You have to be a student at one of the schools listed to get the software. Which means that I can't get any of the software. Typical.

You typically just need a .edu address for a microsoft student program.

Grr, why doesn't Microsoft offer this to the millions of High Schools out there?! GOD THEY'RE SO GREEDY.

I guess I'll stick with express for now. Hopefully this program will still be going when I get into college.

Is the other software one-year licenses as well? I would love to have VS 08 indefinitely and for free. I'm going to try this out.

Nope. XNA is the only one mentioned with a "12 month trial".

Yeah this is cool. I'm downloading VS2008, Virtual PC 2007, and Windows Home Server.

Wasn't Virtual pc 2007 free in the first place? I mean without subscription. I'll take a look at it anyways :)

Couldn’t get verified?

Here are some other ways to get into DreamSpark:

Can’t find your school on our list? You don’t have to miss out.
The world is a big place. Every day we are adding new schools and countries to our list, but we’ve still got a long way to go. So, in the meantime, here are a few additional ways to verify your student status. We hope one of them works for you! We really don’t want you to miss out.
US

DreamSpark has partnered with JourneyEd to verify U.S. students at schools throughout the country. JourneyEd will help you through a simple verification process – it will be just like an online purchase, but it will cost you nothing. At the end of the process you’ll get an email with your personal verification link back to DreamSpark. Click here (http://www.journeyed.com/MSTools) to get started. There's also some process for France, UK, Swotzerland and if you have an ISIC card, read here (https://downloads.channel8.msdn.com/StudentIdOptions.aspx)

and again... You may have to submit some academic verification (like your report card or school ID) if you use the alternate way and not the VeriAd or whatever it was called.

I really don't understand this obsession with "professional" versions of Visual Studio.
It's a slow and buggy IDE, and the added features of the "pro" version are free elsewhere in the form of higher quality products.

XNA subscription sounds good, though. I was going to join a DBP team with my engine (http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a77/gruntmaps/made_of_win.png).

Registering for DBP was so totally worth it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZF84xEszAI).

Nice ^

XMA is so fun, I've managed to render a model and make it spin :O hooking it up to my xbox makes any thing 100% cooler.

Hey Admiral, is that from scratch?

Hey Admiral, is that from scratch?
It's mostly hacked together shader code from some nVidia examples and such, some of it is inspired by tutorials (it was pretty much my only project with XNA, you have to learn it somehow).
