So it all started like this, Windows Defender found some trojan and couldn't delete it, so I figured I'd download BitDefender since it got good reviews and in general people seemed to like it. This made my computer extremely slow, so I uninstalled it. This didn't fix the problem, so I installed an antivirus I had previously used alot, NOD32. This found some trojans and adware, and deleted it. This still did not fix the problem. My computer was still getting slower, and frequently windows explorer would crash and restart. Firefox would also decide to randomly not load some of my tabs. I didn't know wtf was going on, so I did a system restore to 9 days back. This didn't do anything at all besides uninstall some programs. Firefox at the moment will not load anything, so I have to use internet explorer. I also installed Firefox 3, and it still does not load anything. In the bit defender quarentine there are some .dll files that are there, but I cannot delete them. Could they be the problem?

I really don't know anything else to do besides reformating, which I really don't want to do. And the internet keeps loading slower and slower. Help!

Try downloading and running CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) to try and get some performance back. Use the registry cleaner included to get rid of old keys and such. After that, run Hijackthis (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5554.html) and save a logfile. Paste the logfile here (http://www.hijackthis.de/) and it should give an indication if there is other Malware that the scanner missed.

Analysis from the site I linked to is in there. I'd recommend you keep a restore point handy, then remove the entries that have red crosses and orange question marks beside them.

For example: Put a check mark beside the entry "O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [Launcher] %WINDIR%\SMINST\launcher.exe" then choose "Fix Checked."

As I said, a restore point should be made before you do this.

Ok I am still having problems. Windows Explorer continues to randomly crash, and the computer is still as not fast as it used to be. Also when I ran Hijackthis a second time, all the files that were a problem last time were still there. Something that's sort of interesting is when I close Windows Explorer everything is fast, and I don't have any other problems. So I am thinking it's Explorer related.

E: Also Windows Defender is giving me this trojan alert and it can't delete it.

Can you give us the name of the trojan or an image of the alert?

When was this copy of Windows installed on the computer? I find that after 6-9 months of normal use Windows becomes basically unusable and requires a reinstall, at least with the way that I handle my computer. That, or you could try a repair install or whatever it's called, the one that just reinstalls the system files and doesn't touch anything else.
