The heavy update is coming on August 19th! In the meantime, Valve is giving us little bits of information every weekday leading up to it. Here's what's on the list right now -
1. 35 Heavy-based achievements - Names and Icons available here. (http://www.steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/kgb.htm#achievements)
2. 3 unlockable weapons for him - The first is the KGB (http://www.steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/kgb.htm) (Killing gloves of boxing) that give 5 seconds of crits for every kill, then Natascha (http://www.steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/natascha.htm) (Minigun, slows enemies, does less damage), and finally, the sandvich (http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/sandvich.htm#footer), heals 120 health, but leaves you stationary for 4 seconds. Unlimited ammo.
3. A wide-open payload map. - Badwater Basin (http://www.steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/badwater.htm)
4. The "arena" (http://www.steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/arena.htm) gametype - You have the kill the other team. Simple fun. Comes with the new Lumberyard and Ravine maps, and specially tailored Well, Granary, and Badlands.
5. cp_steel (http://www.steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/cp_steel.htm) as the next community map
6. Meet the Sandvich. (http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/sandvich.htm)
7. AND MAYBE MUCH MUCH MOAR
Keep an eye of the heavy update website to see what's coming up next.

I'm an awesome fucking heavy already :\
Seems like every time I start getting into a class they come out with a fucking achievement pack for it and ruin it cause then everyone's playing it.
Besides, Scout is least played, he should be next.
Bodzilla

I don't get it though, why do we need voiceclips? Neither medic or pyro had new voiceclips (Well, medic got the unused drinking beer taunt picz coming up) but this many? Pyro was discovered in some txt file in the GCF.

Every kill you get with them, you get 5 seconds worth of crits with any weapon. You can continue to kill with them to get more crit-time. Downside? They swing slower.
Also, the names and icons of the 35 were posted, as well.
Here they are (http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/kgb.htm)

So wait, how is the Heavy supposed to fire his guns with the gloves on? Or are they going to do something lame like have the gloves magically appear on him when you press 3?

August 15th, 2008, 12:34 PM
Well, think about it - doesn't every other weapon magically appear when you switch to it... ?

Why can't the medic have one of these. :(

Can an overhealed heavy take a crit rocket or will he have to be ubered?

I'm guessing sandwhich eating is a new taunt? And doesn't it cost $200,000 to fire his weapon... for 12 seconds?
Terin
August 16th, 2008, 12:47 PM
Do you really think the minigun in game fires 10000 rounds per minute? You have to fire either 300 or 1000 minigun ammo in a single life. Don't ask me how I got that, I've been explaining it too much.
I can tell they really put a lot of effort into that... darken the drum and add an ammo belt. gg Valve <_<Well... what else would it be? A cartoony minigun is a cartoony minigun.

Gabe: Ok guys, delay the patch, Pooky wants some pegs 'n shit on the new gun.
Bodzilla
August 16th, 2008, 05:51 PM
terin, the achievement is clearly connected to the meet the heavy video. itll just be like 12 seconds of continuous Firing. and thats actually a long time when you think about it.
Terin
August 16th, 2008, 09:07 PM
According to that logic, you'd actually get it in six seconds. Would Valve really make an achievement that easy? My reasoning for 300/1000 bullets is that he says it fires "$200 custom-tooled cartridges". So, you get 300 minigun bullets, because each minigun ammo fires 4 bullets, or 1000, if Valve considers 1 ammo 1 cartridge.

Ok guys, delay the patch, Pooky wants some pegs 'n shit on the new gun.
Right, and there's no reason they could have put as much effort into it as the flare gun or ubersaw?
It's a minor fucking edit, and an ugly one at that.

remember the heavy doesnt have splash damage, or else he'd be like a slower but stronger soldier/demo man.
n00b1n8R
August 17th, 2008, 04:16 AM
Yes it's a cannon, but it's an example of what they could have done. There's plenty of scope for big machine guns in the tf2 art style if they'd bothered to pull their fingers out of their collective asses.

GRAPHICAL EDITS ARE SRS BUSINESS.
Anyways, new update! The new gametype is the "Arena" mode. It's like Counter-Strike, where you have to kill the other team. It works with small groups of people, something that the other gametypes lack, and has some specially tailored maps. There's a control point in the middle that will unlock after 60 seconds and can be captured, but just like the hostages and bombs in CS, it's only if the other team isn't fully attacking you.
Two new maps were made just for Arena, Timberland, an alpine environment that sticks with the TF2 theme.
http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/images/05_lumberyard_2.jpg
And Ravine, a desert map with emphasis on four choke points.
http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/images/05_ravine_2.jpg
Well, Granary, and Badlands will also be tailored to the new gametype.
And tomorrow, a new video, the last unlockable, and obviously, THE UPDATE WHOO.

As for the update, something like this could be interesting, but I have the feeling 1 hit crit kills combined with no respawns are going to make it just irritating for me.

There's plenty of ways you can do a machine gun... and remember it doesn't necessarily have to fit in flawlessly with the original art style. The Blutsauger, Ubersaw and Axtinguisher don't do that at all.

A gametype devoted solely to killing the other guys? Sweet. Takes a bit of the strategy out of things, but at least you don't need servers with at least 8 guys in it.

Finally - Meet the Sandvich (http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/sandvich.htm)
The sandvich will replace the shotgun. For being vunerable for 4 seconds, you heal 120 health. Great if you're defending, or without a medic. I'd use the shotgun with a medic, though, so I could be mobile. Also, the video is hilarious. WATCH IT.
The update will be out within the hour, if Valve will stick to their word.

I was pleasantly surprised that for once my pessimistic predictions were wrong, and I loved the arena mode. Even despite the odd FUCKING crit rocket death.

It goes in your shotgun slot, you take it out and press primary fire or taunt and it takes about 3 seconds to heal a lot of health.

I've decided on the new minigun... just like the backburner and ubersaw before it, it's extremely fucking annoying if you're a light class. I don't know what valve has against light classes, but each update seems to have been focused on nerfing light classes in relation to heavy ones. At least it's not quite as overpowered as the backburner or blutsauger were. (unless you're a scout >___<)
