Hey guys,

I thought it would be cool to have a thread with everyone's 3DMark06 scores. We would lay it out card series by card series. We would also have the alltime highest scores (top10).

Guidelines:
All are done at 1280x1024.
A screenshot. thumbnail or some kind of proof. Do not post large pictures, use thumbs.
Include your graphics/video card model
Link to your PC thread or if no thread, CPU, GPU clocks. (No pictures) . OPTIONAL.
Limit the spam, if its off topic it will be deleted.Let us begin.

When posting a new score below, at the top of your post put the text "My new 3DMark06 Score" in size 5 Red font. eg:

My new 3DMark Score:

~ Note: To be included in the top 10 list, you must provide a 3DMark06 score, no other scores will be eligible for a top 10 listing. ~

Apparently I have an old version of 3DMark 06 on my desktop- does the new version report considerably lower scores? Because I downloaded it and rand it on my laptop, and...
http://www.spacebrick.net/pictures/blog_gallery/laptop_3dmark_score.jpg
:saddowns: I thought it would do better than that.

e: so anyway, I remember just a couple of years ago. 3DMark 06 was a slideshow with pretty pictures. Now it looks about on par with Crysis and averages 40FPS on my desktop. How times change. =P

ee: oh btw I just now noticed that I have exactly the same CPU as Bod. You may disregard my previous comment about wicked cpu advantage.
eee: except that I got a higher CPU score! Boom, baby!

Well, after downgrading to XP: I installed stable 8800GT Graphics drivers, I removed one of the 2gb sticks of ram leaving me with 2 GB instead of the unstable 2.85 due to x32 bit windows, I also overclocked my CPU from 2.4 to 3.0 Ghz.

It brought my Score up by almost 3,000 marks. I'm pleased with these new results. Thanks for the OC'ing help guys!

Upgrade to an 8800 GT and OC that Pentium D to 3GHz, should improve your performance a bit without costing to much.

If your motherboard supports socket 775 upgrade the processor to a Core 2 (2.4GHz+) and you'll have a pretty decent setup.

I do plan on upgrading to an 8800 GT ($100 bucks off at Futureshop), I'm just not sure if I'm confident enough to OC my Pentium D. From what I've read you have to open up your computer and move wires around or something. If there is any other way, please inform me.

What? No.

To overclock your processor you need to go into the bios and change some settings. Basically you fiddle with some numbers to calculate the speed your CPU runs at. I suggest reading this basic guide here:

http://forums.overclockersclub.com/index.php?showtopic=63690

For instance, to overclock my Q6600, all I did to check the speeds was multiply the FSB by the core multiplier and divide by four (Intel processors are "quad pumped"). My multiplier was locked at 9, so that just leaves one number to fiddle with, the FSB.

My default FSB was 1066, 9x1066/4 = 2398.5 (default on my processor is 2.4GHz). When I overclocked to 3.0GHz I just changed the FSB to 1333 (9x1334/4 = 3001.5).

If you have a calculator handy you can overclock pretty easy. Just make sure you understand what you're doing before you do it.

Graphics card is already overclocked, but maybe I can be able to superclock it. I'll have to look into it. Also, I guess I was just expecting too much with my cpu, it's still fine. At least now my computer seems to be running a little quiter and somewhat smoother.

E: Tried to overclock my 8600 GT but moving it up 20 MHz brought the temperature up to well over 70°C idle. I'm just going to wait for my 8800 GT instead of investing in a cooling device.

Warsaw
August 17th, 2008, 12:42 AM
70C idle? My 7800GT used to do that before I cleaned it...never had a problem. New cards finicky?

Meh, now it idles at 50.5C.

Cortexian
August 17th, 2008, 01:55 AM
Yea, I'm stable and running at 2.8GHz now and could probably go to 3.0GHz, this new cooler is keeping it idle at around 48°C-50°C and runs about 60°C-65°C at full load.

Warsaw
August 17th, 2008, 02:12 AM
My CPU is pushed to its limit. The Athlon 64 3200+ is not a very good overclocker by any standard. Anything past 210MHz and it falters. Not to mention, it runs at 39C stock...o_O.

Cortexian
August 17th, 2008, 03:02 AM
39C stock isn't THAT bad is it? My Q6600 was running at like 50C stock.

Warsaw
August 17th, 2008, 02:21 PM
It is when the CPU was originally running around 26C stock, and now even put back at stock settings it is 13C higher than it should be, even after getting a new PSU, cleaning the computer thoroughly, and adding a 120mm fan.

Also, back then, AMD CPUs were cooler than Intel chips.

That doesn't necessarily mean that it is stable; if your CPU is pushed too far and begins to have stability issues then it can begin to have performance issues and therefore lose points.

If you haven't already, prime95 that thing for 12 to 24 hours; if you can get through that error free then it is stable. If it errors out before that then lower your clocks and try again.

We're talking about my graphics card here. My 3.0GHz CPU OC is rock solid stable to the degree of running Prime95 for 24 hours.

Same thing applies to GPU or anything (lol, I only read two posts ahead, /save). I haven't done any video card overclocking in a long ass time but from when I used to do it ATI Tool was good for stress testing and general overclocking (it works on Nvidia GPUs as well).

I don't think you can. Overclocking is pretty much reserved for custom built PC's.

April 10th, 2009, 10:38 PM
You can't overclock 90% of the laptops out there. The only ones that can are like Alienware/Voodoo/Expensive ones.

April 12th, 2009, 01:30 PM
Not true on the second part; ASUS, MSI, and some Acer notebooks can be overclocked, and those are pretty affordable.

And only their higher end laptops can overclock, usually.

With the exception of the humongous W90 ASUS laptop (I use the term loosely), most of those machines fall into the $1300-$1600 price range which, for a gaming laptop, is very affordable.

overclock the cpu more you babby :v:
As stated before, I would if I could but I can't. The Asus Striker Extreme has problems overclocking quad core CPU's due to a design error, something to do with the fact that something on the board prevents enough power reaching the CPU or something. If I go anywhere over 3.1Ghz my PC won't even post, and 3.1Ghz is super unstable.

There's a fix out there that involved pencil modding the motherboard, but I can't find it atm, and I'm not risking bricking my board.
