Text Problems

So I have this problem with the chat. Every time I enter multiplayer, the magic white words on the left of the screen vanish, though they do flicker in and out every time a new line of text appears.

I've tried all the fixes on halomaps.org, to no avail. If there is a proven fix for this, please let me know. (The problem is supposedly due to new "high-end" cards... but all I have is an 8600GT. Maybe drivers need updating? Hmm.)

Don't minimize the game once you've started it, and text lag won't happen. Otherwise, you can just change your in-game screen resolution (and change it back) and the text lag will be gone.
