On most default textures in Halo the bump maps are always enabled without the flash light shining on them.
But when you make your own textures and put a bump map on in the shader you have to shine a light on it so you can see the bump map
How do I make the bump maps like the other Halo textures? So I don;t have to shine a light on them?
And what is the alpha for on the Halo textures? Extra detail?

you need to add a cube map, down at the bottom of the shader.
The alpha channel affects the brightness of the cubemap.

In Halo, only dynamic light affects bump maps.
you cannot have bump maps cast shadows. bungie didn't do it either.

Ok, I have made a box level to test. All I have in it is 2 spawn points.

I have used the clear afternoon sky.
Bumpmaps are working for one texture... but not for the ground...

No you are missunderstanding, that's just the defuse texture and cubmap you're seeing there. bump maps do not affect standard light, only dynamic light. that's just the way the engine works.

If you would like something along the lines of fake bumpmaps that show all the time, I would bake the bumpmap onto the diffuse. Hit me up on MSN if you need it.

that's just the the diffuse map. if u want it to be like that, u might want to look up a few texture creating tutorial to add effects(different shade of colors) to immitate that effect.
