Ok I added a structure and deleted another. I made a thread because I am still deciding if the top of the island should be accessible. If every one wants the top to be accessible then I will change the top of the island around and add some things there.
Meanwhile here are a few pictures.
Some structures are ideas from halo 3 and halo wars. Not everything you will see is textured yet. And textures that you see are not final, some are place holders.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I was also wondering which name fits this map better. Cliff Island or Winter blast

Needs moar scrolling texture and sound scenery.
Tiling looks a bit off - try to make the terrain less obviously tiled.

That cliff texture is a place holder, its not going to be in the final.

I say no to going to the top.
But if you are sort of going off some Halo Wars structures, maybe add lights on a couple of those structures. But I do like what you have got going here. Give those structures textures that have a darker metal base with maybe some silvery fibers as an overlay and it may make it look a bit better, also.

The design reminds me of Death Island in a way, though I find that it's too flat on the beach, and there's not enough cover (rocks, hills, etc...). Work on that a bit.
To answer your question, the top of the island shouldn't be accessible, because the map is big enough already. Though, it wouldn't hurt to make it a big higher, so it doesn't seem like you can have access to it.

I like it. Terrain could use a bit of work. I don't know. Maybe it's just the textures. Sure looks fun though.

it looks ok...not very visually appealing, but it's a start. just keep ading some stuff and make sure u work on those textures cuz they help alot.

I will defiantly need some help later when I will get to the weapon balancing part. I don’t want to mess up on that for this map like I have on some other maps.

The only thing that really bothers me is that the map is INCREDIBLY barren. Put some trees in, little structure that do nothing, rocks and pebbles etc.
Other than that, looks nice, keep going, and top shouldn't be accessible unless you are planning on doing a whole bunch of stuff to it.

Work on the cliffs a bit, and spice up the textures. They cliff textures look really bland and unappealing right now. forerunner structures look good though, keep at it.

Sorry for the bump, only 2 weeks. I didn't want to start a new topic for this question.
What do you guys think the theme should be. Snow theme or normal dirt, grass and sand theme? The snow theme is a little harder for me to do because I got tunnels.

If the snowy cliff texture wasn't as tiled as it is I would say I personally like the snowy one better, but because of this I prefer the sandy one.

I'd probably love the snow one if the cliff texture wasn't tiled horribly. XD
I like its ground texture.

The Halo Wars inspired spoilered geometry is cool, thought I think you over did it with all the ribbing on the walls.

hmm if textured nicely , should look good. go with the Halo Wars texture theme for this.
doesnt look like you have those energy beams that connect that balcony to the rest of the wall. - Will you be implementing those?

Quick post isn't working for me atm, but you might wanna shot tag those images. You can't really complain about it being repetetive because 'The Library' was the most annoying and repetetive map ever, yet it was forerunner :hist101:

This looks very good to me. It has some H3 and Halo Wars style on it, like was said earlier. I like the grass/dirt island better, I'm kind of tired of snowy maps right now... You could make it less lighter than Death Island is. Not that "sunshine" feeling all the time. Also, the underground(?) structure looks good compared to the original.

I like the walls, but I agree the ribbing seems over done, not to mention it probably hogs the poly count. As for the floor... uh, needs work, plus I see some errors, and I'm not entirely sure what your doing there yet.
Keep working on it, and post progress, just make sure you do something substantial.
Looks nice though.
E: I also noticed your website, and I'm not sure if this is just an old image but, I made some suggestions and uploaded it to image shack.

I see what your going for with the tunnel style, but I thought it might look nicer with some of the changes I suggested, the chamfers are up to you, prolly doesn't matter, I just think you could use less ribs mostly. Plus that part in front of the entrance would look nicer the way I said I think.

Aim for something more along the lines of (again citing Assault on the control room) those ledges when you have to fly a banshee up to that one door, its sort of like what your trying to make, try to make something simillar, but of course smaller for your purposes, it'll look loads better I think.

Alright I made a video of the beta map. I don't know yet what Im going to do with the water inside the pit yet. This video is just showing off the model not so much textures. So far the map has 34,709 polys. I think it would have had around 45,000 if I havent reduced the poly count.

EDIT: Also does anyone know if there is a script or a way so the fog wouldn't appear in a certain cluster? like in the big pit.

Edit: I also think theres a way to use exact portals to make the fog stay out of there, but I'm not sure.

It is possible to get the fog out of there, the did it in the silent cartographer,
I think the fog is defined by normal portals.

they were both the same bsp, if you go into the security room, theres that huge hole, that has no water fog, the interior where the cartographer is is the other bsp

I am not sure, maybe I could but that’s the least of my worries right now. The fog part inside the structure is what I'm worried about. I can't continue to model until I figure that out.

Meh, how about you just cheat it, and put player clipping so the player can't go out beyond where they would be able to get underwater, then just have the water plane be part of the ground so to speak, and make it render only. Then you could get rid of the fog plane.

So I took off in a longsword from POA for training and I was on a mission to find Cliff Island. After hours of searching I finally found the Island. I was so excited I flew over the Island and accidentally dropped couple of nukes. I forget to unload them before I took off. The nukes hit Cliff Island and reshaped allot of things. Now after a little bit of rebuilding, the map turned into a canyon. Here’s what it looks like now. Don’t have a new name for it yet. \/

Most of the models look great. But they look... unfinished. It's like u said "fuck this" after having worked on it for more than a fiew hours. Did u run out of steam? The structures feel as tho they should be bigger. Trty expanding on that wall thing. Its my favorite one.

Sorry to go offtopic but scout, please use proper grammar or atleast Capitalization works nicely... not enforcing anything just a suggestion.
I like the name of the map, it has a nice flow with it.
