Man this laptop is the one I want to get. it's $499 at newegg, and is basically the same size as the EEE pc, with a 10 inch lcd. It has the 1.6ghz intel atom, Intel GMA 950 (for playing those old games), and an 80gb 2.5inch hard drive. I'm willing to sacrafice the solid state for this laptop. I think it's better than the EEE, although the solid state on the eee is better.
AND IT's ONLY 2.3 POUNDS!!!
So what do you think? Get the complete specs from newegg.

Considering the price and features? I would get this in a hearteat. Too bad it's out of stock.

why? Its slow, and it would be totally worth it to spend an extra 200 on a better book....

I think it would be more worthwhile if you got something more powerful, even if it does cost a little more. Sure, it can be used under water, but it's not like you're going to do that, right?

it cant be used underwater. I think that was a joke.
What is so special about this thing anyway?

Looks like a good portable solution for general web browsing and MS office work. I wouldn't mind getting that as long as the battery would last two or three hours minimum.

Being a netbook, you might get an idea of what it's purpose is. These are not intended to replace your main system.

Its just like the EEE pc, but better! you can put a 320gig hard drive in that thing! And it's the same size almost as the new EEE pc.

The acer aspire is 120 dollars cheaper, but the msi wind is much better. It even comes with xp preinstalled!
@snaffy
MSI is actually very good. I have bought graphics cards and motherboards from them and none have dissapointed me. I would also get the MSI wind over the EEE pc just because of the hard disk size. I dont care about the solid state disk. In most benchmarks I read the regular hard disk of the MSi was not far behind the SSd of the EEE, maybe a few seconds difference.

Win, hard drive > SSDs for the time being.

Win, hard drive > SSDs for the time being.
Yea, I just read a review of the wind and it got 6 seconds better than the lastest eee pc 1000h.
And it's easy upgradeable to 2gb. Just buy another 1gb ddr667 sodimm for $20 and there you have it! $520 for The msi Wind with 2 Gigs of ram. It's waaaay cheaper than the eee pc.
Aslo @ Bacony, the Aspire one is worse than the MSI Wind. It comes with only 512mb of ram, and comes with a waaaay smaller ssd drive and linux. The MSi Wind comes with Windows xp, and 1gb of ram. It can also be upgraded easily to 320gb hdd, unlike the acer aspire or eee pc.

Don't use the GMA 950. HL2DM looks like crap, unless you're on Killbox. On halo, no AA. Far Cry, looks worse than HL2DM.

Uh, of course? It's integrated, the only reason is even as powerful as it is would be due to Vista's demands. If it didn't demand anything we'd still have the old Intel IGP's, which were sup fail.

The reason to buy these mini laptops isn't for games. It's cause theyre small and ultra portable and ultra productive. But you can play games on the side if you want.:-3

You're not supposed to be able to get AA in Halo in the first place. You're leaving your assessment in that regard to a hack?
You're not going to find a netbook with a real graphics solution for a few years (maybe next year, depends on whether nVidia gets off their asses)
@Abdurahman: The Aspire One, in the proper configuration, is $100 less than the MSI Wind, comes with a hard drive (which can be upgradeable anyway, it's not like you're sitting on something that is soldered in) and 1GB of RAM. What is with you people and your obsession with Windows? That makes it worse for me. It means I have to spend more money on something that's shit in the first place.

Actually the Aspire One comes with an ssd, and ram thats VERY hard to upgrade.
So the MSi wind is better for me cause its so much easier to upgrade, and I happen to want windows xp on it.
From here. (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Acer-039-s-Aspire-One-Can-Run-OS-X-89395.shtml)
Acer's Aspire One netbook has already been shipped to a couple of lucky users and some of them have wasted no time in ripping apart their new device and posting pictures of it on the web. Thanks to them, but especially to their pictures and opinions, other users should now be able to better understand Acer's ultra portable computer (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Acer-039-s-Aspire-One-Can-Run-OS-X-89395.shtml#) system. But this should also raise a couple of questions regarding the product's performance level.
The new Aspire One netbook is rather different than its
competitors, namely ASUS’ Eee PC (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Acer-039-s-Aspire-One-Can-Run-OS-X-89395.shtml#) or MSI's Wind PC. It all fairness, it looks like that Acer could have used a little more time spent in developing this product, as it might even need a better design.
According to the opinions (http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=232&t=682555&p=1) of an Aspire One user, it will be difficult to upgrade the netbook's memory, as there's no external access to the memory slot. This should be a standard feature for any portable computer system (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Acer-039-s-Aspire-One-Can-Run-OS-X-89395.shtml#), but it is now clear that Acer isn't of the same opinion. So, in order to upgrade the memory of your Aspire One netbook, you will probably have to call in a professional, who will – obviously enough – rip the machine open. That is, if you aren't used to opening netbooks and upgrading the system yourself.
Another one of Acer's Aspire One features will not allow you to upgrade the storage capacity (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Acer-039-s-Aspire-One-Can-Run-OS-X-89395.shtml#). This happens because the device comes with a proprietary SSD drive interface, which connects the Solid State Drive to the main PCB via a ribbon cable.
What is rather interesting is that one user managed to install an OS X (http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=232&t=684475&last=6965675) operating system on his Aspire One netbook. Considering the price tag that usually comes attached to an Apple MacBook, compared with Acer's Aspire One, the actions of this particular user are quite understandable: he probably just wanted a portable computer (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Acer-039-s-Aspire-One-Can-Run-OS-X-89395.shtml#) system that could run Apple's OS X, even though Apple would never approve of something like this.
So, to conclude: Acer's Aspire One can run Linux, Windows XP and OS X, but it will not allow users to easily upgrade the memory and storage (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Acer-039-s-Aspire-One-Can-Run-OS-X-89395.shtml#) capacities.

One of the options is an HDD, so I have no idea what you're talking about / quoting there.
Unless Acer decided to just totally f*** the Aspire One at the last minute... =O

Meh, I don't see the use in ultraportable laptops, they just seem so nerfed. Then again, if you're only gunna use it for internet browsing, word processing and other basic stuff, I guess it'll be fine. (I use mine for photo editing, batch processing photos and other photoshop work as well as a bit of Maya)
I agree with bacon, why windows? Linux would run much more efficiently on a laptop with specs like that.
I personally have a 15-inch laptop which is kinda heavy for it's size. Am want Macbook Pro. Suits my needs, don't mind the weight. >_>

Would you rather lug this around all day?

It'll cut through graphics like a hot knife through butter, and break your back while doing it. Also, don't drop it, because you don't want to add "Floor Damages" to the bill.

All I'd need is something to log on to the company server with to download and upload work, and something type design documents on when I want to get out like at a coffee shop or on the pier. Sometimes I'll need to evaluate 3d and 2d work, but I just can't stand being inside all day. This netbook would have adequate power for all of this, and be small and light enough to fit in a small bag with my art supplies.

Or you could be lame and drop $2000+ on a MacBook Air....:downs:.

:saddowns: But.. but.. it's so awesome looking. I do like the multitouch features, but now that they're in the MacBook Pros, the Air doesn't seem as appealing to me for what I'd need it for.
