Now we've got M. Night Shyamalan directing The Last Airbender (three guesses what it's based off of). Who knows how it'll turn out.

Avitar is stupid though. Really stupid, not to mention that all child actors that are currently active are the cancer that is killing movies.

What's avatar?

An anime on Nickelodeon.

Technically it's not an anime (by the strict definition of the word) but it's close enough that it's been termed that...

We know all the kids who worship the show will go insane once the trailer comes out (and when they find out there are no more episodes coming, but with a different mood that time...)

Fail. However, not having any more episodes of the show is win. WIN!!!

Also, lulz.

Well, Dragonball isn't that bad of an idea for a movie, but this? let's just say that I won't be seeing it.

Meh. Verne Troyer for the main guy imo.

This fails. The world fails. Faekime fails. M. Night Shamalamadingdong is... fail.

So why does everyone hate this show so much?

Its like spykids the anime.

Hardly. I thought the show was quite well done, because I actually took the time to sit down and watch it with my little brother. It tells a real story, and manages to keep it tuned for the intended audience without destroying its integrity.

However, I do agree that a live action movie is stupid. It just doesn't work with the Avatar world.

I actually like the show a bit. As Warsaw said the story is actually very interesting. Now I don't watch any Anime shows and don't really care for it in general. That's why I don't think it sucks because I'm not comparing it to any other Anime shows. It's definitely not designed for all you hardcore anime fans out there.

But a live action movie could either end up really badly or completely awesome. M. Night Shyamalan is pretty awesome so he could end up doing a really awesome job with this, I see a lot of potential in making this movie awesome with sweet acrobatics and special effects and whatnot.

More like the Last Douchebender...

Honestly, I though this show was pretty cool. It does have a pretty cool storyline, and the fights were pretty cool for a cartoon.

But, I'm guessing half of the people who looked over the article didn't go much deeper than skimming, since it said he was making this movie in CGI.

Edward Elrich

Yes, it did. But if it's anything like the CGI for The Clone Wars it'll be EPIC FAIL. And also, M. Night doing CGI? Doesn't sound possible to me, seeing how every other movie was live action with some CGI effects.

I looked other places and it seems like it's a mix of live-action and CGI. Obviously all the bending will be CGI, but it looks like it'll be somewhat live action too.

And if the movie is made of epic fail, the best news would be that there are two more coming. [/sarcasm]

See that's what I liked about it, also the fact that it actually has a sense of humor about itself.

So I can't really see where all the rage is coming from. :S

I think it's coming from the fact M. Night Shyamalan is directing the movie (and writing the screenplay, according to IMDB.) A few people are just angry from general dislike of the show though.

Agreed. I've only seen like 3 episodes, but it always seemed pretty well done.

i Concur.

i never really watched it, but i saw a few episodes from time to time a few years ago and i thought it was excellent compared to some of the tripe that gets thrown out from japan.

Interesting story.

I've heard about it, and the story sounds well done. However, it never really got my interest, and still doesn't, which is why this doesn't really excite me.

Anime isn't all tripe; there's at least 2 good series' every year, I find.

I really liked Avatar, though. I remember watching the first few episodes on NickToons and finding it really boring, not giving it a chance, etc. Later on, when it was series 2, I got hooked in and rewatched all of them.

I think the reason it draws negative attention from some anime fans is because it has a predictable ending. Western writers aren't going to end with "Aang died, Fire Nation ruled over all," they're going to finish with a happy one. Anime writers are less predictable, meaning a series could end either way.

Warsaw

They end it happy because it's a kids show. Kids wouldn't be able to appreciate a negative twist. Western writers are every bit as capable of twists as Japanese ones, especially considering that Anime stories are more Western than they are eastern.

However, at the end of the show, there are a few unanswered questions, like what happened to Zuko's mother. As far as I know, she was murdered. There's plenty of room for additional twists to make it a bittersweet end instead of a happy one.

Well, that said, I'm defiantly going to see Avatar by Jame Cameron twice to make up for this movie's loss.

I just finished watching the last episodes of the show. They were pretty awesome but the whole thing seemed rushed, like they were trying to finish the story in the few episodes they had left instead of making more episodes. Still was pretty awesome though.

Rubbish imo. But thats my pessimistic, misanthropic opinion.

Being live-action and all, just makes the movie loose it's touch. That's like trying to make Spongebob Squarepants live action...It just doesn't go together..

Corndogman
July 22nd, 2008, 09:36 PM
Except Spongebob square pants characters are Fish, and Avatars characters are people. I Can see this working out with some awesome CGI for the bending and stuff.

^ owned.

And live-action from cartoons has worked before, especially with superhero movies it seems. I know this isn't the same thing exactly, but it could be done.

Yeah, its not that it wont work. You take shit and make it a different color, it still shit.

I think it's a good show (Definitely better than all the other shit on cartoon channels this days). Most of the charm comes from the animation though so a Live Action would fail, IMO.
