Its more likely than you think!

Yup, Skinning, Ill have a tut made in a few days or so, its quite simple to be honest, yet only works on custom maps currently.
Grimdoomer is working on it for non custom maps, but im telling him a possible way and he doesnt seem to like it and he claims its dumb.
Now, once I am able to properly use that app for custom models, I might attempt to get custom sounds in.
And you know what? Microshaft, this is for you!

so this is just replacing the bitmap reference with a new one?

yeah, its quiet simple actually, i did it around when the game first came out, just compile your new bitmap over the file path of the old one

Doesnt work that way, You need to change the reference and make brand new tags.

Seems very limited as to what I can do though.

I did this with a warthog. All I did is save the new warthog with a different name, and give it a new shader. Sounds about like what you did. Nice job I suppose.

When I did that the map wouldnt load in h2v, what happened when you did it?

Pyong Kawaguchi

also @ killa, if you replace a stock tag, it wont load ingame with the modifications it will still be stock *cough*shared.map*cough*

There is a checksum system of some sort I belive, which is why your map doesn't show up.

Are you saying that possibly, with a resigner the map would load?

Lul I luv h2x. srsly, We were able to take that game and make it into something great.

No one wants to deal with H2v, the reason why I'm assuming is the whole Vista thing :\

But who cares, I wish people from h2x would move more into h2v; it would be a lot more fun.

Also, why doesn't someone just write a bitmap extractor/Injector?

H2x has at least 10 bitmap injector/extractors, I'm sure it could be done for h2v too.

Its mostly the compression that is making it difficult to make one.
I dont see why grimdoomer doesnt just decompile tool and see how it compresses bitmaps

Cause he's an idiot...no exaggeration. Grimdoomer is infamous for not completing what he starts. Besides, there's plenty of halo 2 programs out there with released source that you can easily take a look at the dxt compression. Not to mention that DXT compression has been documented...Google it.
