View Full Version : Sapien: What am I doing wrong?

Well I just recently started modding with HEK, but today I when went on my computer to open up my latest mod, Sapien crashed. Here's what happened. I opened Sapien.exe and navigated to the scenario file I've been working on. I clicked the scenario file and clicked 'open'. It opened for a second, then closed out. I don't know what's wrong and I've been searching everywhere for answers and nothing has helped. Here's what my debug.txt file says:
07.29.08 19:10:53 sapien pc 01.00.00.0609 ----------------------------------------------
07.29.08 19:10:53 reference function: _write_to_error_file
07.29.08 19:10:53 reference address: 401b13
07.29.08 19:10:53 Couldn't read map file './sapienbeta.map'
I tried opening up other scenarios and the same thing happened. I even deleted my whole tags folder and re-extracted bloodgulch and tried opening it, just to see what would happen. Again, Sapien just crashed.
If someone can help me fix this I'll be very happy.

Always :google: the reference address, or a number and letters that look of importance.
what i did was take all of the files and exract them from HEK plus and vehicles and everything and it works fine so you can try that

I just cleared out my tags folder again, and then extracted everything from Sidewinder. When I tried to open it with Sapien, it crashed again.
This whole thing is starting to annoy me because Sapien was working yesterday when I shut down my computer. I went on today without changing anything, and now it won't work.

Try maybe deleting the Tags and Data folder and clear off everything HEK installed. Then re-install HEK. That could work, there might be some incorrect linkings going on in some tags. Is there anything else you can post more of from the debug?
I had this problem before but forgot how I fixed it.

I completely forgot about the data folder. I'll try deleting it and reinstalling HEK to see what happens.

The only time I've had something like this happen was when my PC wasn't in 32-bit color mode... check that I suppose. Also, there's always the chance that the HEK+ corrupted and overwrote a tag Sapien needs to load (like globals), in which case I'd suggest a clean reinstall of the HEK.
E : With the error you jsut posted, just reinstall (don't use hek+) the HEK. That's a Sapien-specific model file that isn't in any maps.
E 2.0... Silent, what would data have to do with it 0_o. AFAIK Sapien doesn't even touch the data folder unless you're running lightmaps. Ditto for reference address, it's not significant.

Well, it's in 32-bit, but it's not letting me delete my data folder because it's being used by another program. The only thing I'm running is IE, and I checked Task Manager and didn't see anything that would be using the data folder. I'm gonna reboot to get rid of whatever process is preventing me from deleting it.
E: OK I reinstalled HEK, but...
don't use hek+
(This is probably a stupid question) How do I extract tags from maps without using HEK+?

He meant that you shouldn't uninstall HEK and then try to extract all the tags and not reinstall HEK, as that would make it so you couldn't open anything in sapien. In other words, HEK must be reinstalled.

I meant that when you reinstall the HEK, don't use the HEK+ until you're sure everything works. You can still use it, but as a precaution make sure that in the tag extraction settings you don't have it overwrite stuff.
E : Rooster said it.
