Just looks like a skinned bird to me, however the fleshy appearance of the legs makes me feel doubtful. I don't see this being anything out of the ordinary though.

The most reasonable explanation I've heard is a water rat.

It is indeed a bird. Its fleshlike appearance is because of the dusty area. Look at th face.

And where are the other pictures? Seriously, if you saw this thing on a beach with a camera in your hand, wouldn't you take a billion pictures of it?

edit: Hell, it's probably a viral marketing attempt for something.

I don't think it's a bird, look at the bottom jaw. It has canine/cat-type teeth. It can't be a turtle without a shell because a turtle's spine is integrated into the shell and without the shell it would be a lot bloodier to say the least.
My thoughts?

There's fur or feathers around its neck. Unless there's some Australian hairy turtle species i've never heard of, then i doubt it's a turtle. :p

QFT. It's also pretty funny how, for some unknown reason, it's not being scientifically studied to determine what it is. Several people see a freak of nature like that lying on the beach and not one of them makes a call to a wildlife/scientific/etc. department to go out there and look at it?

If it is real, the most reasonable explanation seems to me to be that it's a raccoon whose fur and nasal cartilage rotted away. Do a Google image search for raccoon skulls and look at the similarities.

Also, @ the people who think it's a bird: wtf, lol?

ICEE
August 2nd, 2008, 10:20 PM
its obviously not a bird. Birds have very thin, bony legs. this one has meatier dog-like legs. I'm going to go with dog or turtle.

the front leg/flipper things are what make me think it could be a turtle. However im leaning toward dog now, King nothing had a point when he said that the cartilage could have rotted away, and that would explain the lack of ears too.

E: posted before the water rat evidence

Here's a page that has some more pics of it: http://amnesiablog.wordpress.com/2008/08/02/montauk-monster-pictures-real-or-viral-hoax/

Those pics confirm that it doesn't have a "beak" like it sort of looks like in the first picture. Looks a lot more like dog in those pics. Maybe a pit bull.

The_Wraith

Umm..yeah that first picture really is deceiving.

It's definitely a dog body. Obviously one that's severely waterlogged and slightly decomposed.

I fail too see it the same as the dog. It's body is laying differently...It's head had to be like moved or sumthin....and if it is the dog, who leaves it there long enough to rot?

Could have drowned off someone's boat or drown in a river and got sent into the ocean and washed up. Who knows?

looks like a dead turtle without a shellturtles' shells are fused with their skin, as well as being part of their spine. That would be impossible.

Wow wtf, I only bothered looking at this then. That is some really fucked up shit right there. Some freaky mutation, some stupid fuck of a dog must have had sex with some other random animal and then some other random animal was like hey I wanna stick it there two! So they like 3 way bread at the same time and made this. Tada, half of the mystery is solved!

The new pics make it look much more like a dog anyways.

I think they just flipped it over. If you were alone on a beach with a dead rotting... something and a stick, tell me you would not poke and flip and prod the hell out of that thing.

We are two very different people. Anyways, yes, I think I can agree that it is a raccoon now.

I disagree. A raccoon's toes (and whole paws in general) are thinner and longer than a dog's. Look at the closeup of the paws in the picture Link posted. They look a lot more like this than they do dog paws:

king_nothing_
August 4th, 2008, 01:33 AM
Well, raccoons have more real toes than a dog, if you know what I mean. I was going to mention it like iron did but some of the toes are buried in the sand in the picture so you can't really tell.

The_Wraith

Most of the fur came off and it clearly has some tufts around the neck left. We've established that is definitely IS NOT a bird at this point.

Dog or Raccoon seem to be the prime answers.

Though your probably right. Now that you said that it does seem it.
