View Full Version : Rearrange My Room

I'm getting tired of my floor plan. I need something new. The problem is, I am kind of stuck in the position I'm in right now. Every time I draw something down, it always ends up being the same thing I have right now, only maybe backwards or something.

Below is a rough sketch of the floor plan of my room. I need your help putting something together. Listed at the bottom of the image are the types of furniture I have which need placement. Whoever does the best job will get supa-rep. If someone actually gets chosen, then they get supa-dupa-rep.

One thing I really can't stress enough of, though, is that I need space. Right now, I have a big open area with an area rug on one half of my room. If I don't have this, I'm screwed.

Also, finally, my computer has TV running through it. If I need to relocate a TV jack, then that's OK. I just want to clarify this to make sure no one feels they need to include a spot for an actual TV. Also, make sure there is enough space for a computer chair, dual monitors, and I MUST be able to view the screen from my bed somehow (whether it is off to the side or in front of me, whatever).

On the left side of the paper are sliding closet doors. At the top of the paper are windows. The circles with lines through them are power outlets. The symbol which looks like the dollar sign is a light switch, with the dotted lines indicating which outlets are controlled by the switch.

You can do it in any program. All you need are defined outlines and object names so it is understandable.

Please help. :(

Fill that fucker up with grandfather clocks
What are the dimensions of the items in your room? If I have time I may try my hand at this rearranging thing.

The only items that need to be in it are listed at the bottom of the image. Anything that I am not getting new of has its dimensions listed.

Things like the desk you can create however you want, wherever, because I'll have it custom built.

Is there a deadline for this?

jcap

There's no deadline. I mean, it's always nice to have something soon, but if you really want to put thought into it or give it a try, I'm not going to rush it.

Hey, that's a lot like my room, both in size and placement of the wall jacks.

It's pretty darn close to my setup. I, too, need a fuckload of room to do recording with.

EDIT- Fuck me, those are windows up there. See Ducky's post, it's basically what I have here, but the bed and desk are switched, which is how it should be.

The width of the shelf doesn't really matter much since you have a lot of room to work with on that wall. The one in the above layout is 3' wide.

If you need more space or want to fit in a queen size bed instead, I would suggest tossing one of the nightstands. One person doesn't really need two of them.

EDIT: I just now noticed the two rectangles you have drawn in on the top wall. Those are windows, correct? I'm not sure how tall your dresser is, but if it obstructs the left window in my layout, I would suggest either moving the dresser left a little, or have it change places with the shelf on the opposite wall.

I'm surprised to see from the people who have made up a plan have placed the bed closest to the windows. To me that's a no no. It's proven that your body sleeps better when the room is at it's darkest. Though you can argue some people sleep better with the light on. But generally, the body shuts down when the senses are not exposed to light. Whatever type of blind or curtain you are covering your window with is regardless. The further away from the window would give these benefits imo;
- you are further from the noise of whatever is outside
- further away from the light increasing your brains perception of the right time to wake because it is further from light, duh

This is my plan;

Now... I have not made it to scale but I did it roughly as precise as I could be bothered with. I'm sure if you guys can use common sense you can work out the exact dimensions of everything, given that some are already set from existing furniture. I have placed the Desk/Comp/TV area closest to the window because for 1. being on a computer for a long period of time can make you tired and drowsy, so with the light and closer to noise outside, it helps fight out the zombie forming from within. 2. natural light provides a source of energy, 3. you won't need to waste electricity by being away from daylight when working at the desk or on the pc. 4. the list could go on but if you are with me, you could most likely work out more benefits. The same sort of thing goes for the dresser placed near a window, the light wakes you up, when we get dressed it is normally in the morning or when we have finally found the energy to leave the house half way through the day. Could also place a mirror in between the two windows for some natural light to shine through as we check out our sexy bodies. :p Get my drift? The shelves; Because I am a modern/up-to-date/in with the new kinda person, I have gone with wall mounted shelves. As many shelves as you want as they will be fixed into the wall. To know what I am on about, here are some examples;

As for the bed, that would be a personal choice. :P Whatever suites Mr Jcap! :) So yeah, hope some of my input makes sense and helps out. :)

bitch get a california king size mattress. hell get two or three.

No, seriously though, hit me up on aim some time later today, and I'll ask you a few preferences then have my swing at giving your room a good layout. As I've said about every time it comes up, I work in the moving business, and I've studied a good bit of architecture, so none of this is new to me. kthxbai

This is a great idea, I'm moving into another house soon and I have no idea where to position my stuff, this may help me diversify my ideas :P

I like duckys plan but kings is also good.

Will you take pictures of the final result?

Ducky's layout is pretty good, but I don't know if positioning the bed that way allows enough room for the desk chair. I had mine set up like that originally but I changed it to how I have it now to give the desk chair more space to move.

Depends on the style of desk he goes for. But yeah, I wasn't 100% on the dimensions. Oh and also depends on what bed he goes for as well. But I reckon there would be enough space... just could be a case of moving the bed closer to the rug and shelves. If you have a corner desk fitted to be more "skinny" but not too skinny... you could stretch it out like in my layout and allow more room for the bed. And that would create more working space around? Hmm. :gonk:

heh... sounds like my room... no matter how I rearrange it, my bed always ends up in the same fuken spot. Sort of getting annoying now. I also hate having those 2 windows one one wall, not to mention they make trying to find places to put my furniture annoying, I wish they were higher off the ground, it would solve so many problems.

Stickied because I didn't want it to fade away if posting slowed down. I've gotten good suggestions, now I need to see about creating a final plan and getting everything I need to redo my room. If anyone wants to create another floor plan, you're more than welcome since I'm still preparing.

Also, if you want a good idea at what I'm looking for, King and Fluffy have great ideas, but I don't think I want to be sitting with my back at the door... >_>

Okay, the foundation and the pieces are copied directly from Fluffy's design, but I don't have an interior design program or anything more advanced than paint. Plus, everything's been moved around.

The desk is positioned so you just have to turn a bit to face the door- and the amount of room for the desk assures any shape you want for it. I just used the one that was in Fluffy's post.

The bed's under the window, but I sleep like that with no problems. I actually kinda like being able to look into the sky when I sleep.

The dresser and the shelves can be swapped. Actually, they should be.

And it should say "windows are represented by dark blue"

You don't have to go with the colors

EDIT: damnit I accidentally made something exactly like king's setup. Never mind.
