Story- INTRO: A young Lebanese girl has baffled eye surgeons by producing tiny crystals from her eyes. Her father wants her to go and see specialists in Europe or America to find an explanation to this extraordinary phenomenon.

Hasnah Mohamed Meselmani is a healthy and, by all accounts, normal twelve year-old living with her parents in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley.

But for doctors, she is an unexplained phenonmenon.

Since March this year, Hasnah's eyes have been producing tiny crystals which pop out at an average rate of seven a day.

Although the crystals are as sharp as cut glass, Hasnah says she feels no pain and baffled doctors cannot find an explanation for it.

Hasnah's father Mohamed, who had been assured by the eye surgeon who first examined his daughter that the crystals wouldn't come back, has now apealed to his local authority for help in sending her to medical experts in Europe or the United States.

It's been six months since the first crystals appeared and as many as ten doctors have looked into Hasnah's 'crystal eyes' in search of a sensible medical explanation, but to no avail.

Eye surgeon Dr Nasib El-Lakkis said he will be sending details of this extraordinary case to an eye surgeons conference in Spain.

Can't be that hard to figure out what it is...analysis of chemical composition and where to find those chemicals done.

Interesting nonetheless even thought I'm a bit disgusted :P

Wow. A lot of crazy stuff goes on unnoticed in this world. Something that sharp nestled in somewhere so delicate? and it keeps getting somehow created?

X-men confirmed.

Well when you get a population of 6,000,000,000+ there's bound to be a few mutations.

Still, pretty odd. >.>

Probably her body's minerals are collecting to form a solid state somehow, like how some animals in the desert actually pee yellow rocks, their body natural conserving water. I'd say this is one of the few good diseases out there.

That's insane, hopefully the doctors can find a reason.

I remember seeing something like this a few years ago... some guy claimed to be able to cry shards of glass, and it looked just like that. It may real, some sort of weird mineral buildup or something as you guys say, but I'm gonna be the one to call BS on it. Either a hoax perpetrated by all those involved, or a clever trick that's got all the "experts" convinced, or some combination of the two. My money's on the "clever trick" bit, since there was that other guy who could do it.

Well, if this is indeed real, which I believe it is, then that's some real crazy shit there. If it were me, I would be scared shitless if crystals popped out of my eyes 7 times a day. I just hope that she doesn't get hurt by the crystals later on.

Is an objective third party observing her 24/7 to be sure the "tears" are being naturally produced? I'm a skeptic. I guess I shouldn't be so sure as to positively say "fake", but as I have no conclusive evidence either for or against the validity of their claims, Ockham's Razor leads me to accept the "fake" hypothesis until somebody gives me a good reason not to.

I doubt thats fake Rob. These people live in entitly diffrent areas of the world. I recon its just a built up of some chemical which then produces solid state, Maybe something to do with tears, considering tears come out of your eye 24/7, but its not actual tears, it just helps keep the eye ball wet.

I wouldnt be surprised if she never cries, maybe this is the built up.

Still freaky.

"The answer soon came: it was 'fraud', and the girl had admitted it, at least that is how the story was reported."

This is actually very old. Or rather something like this also happened when I was very young. I tried crying glass after I saw it on TV.

Also this still hasn't been proven fake yet. That article Terin posted says nothing of the sort but instead rambles on about it being supernatural whilst flip-flopping on it being real or fake and how Saudi scientists or the government paid the family 50 grand to shut up about it.

One of those shows like 60 minutes or something is where I saw it from. The girl just sat infront of the camera and produced a table full of glass from her eyes. I dont see how that one could have been faked, assuming the camera and editing crew were honest. And come on, if there was a girl like that becomming a worldwide phenomena and you had proof it was fake, it'd be your journalistic duty and a boost to your career if you published it.

Hasnah, who claims to produce up to seven crystals a day, showed a collection of the allegedly apported rocks. From their rhomboidal shape and other properties, I recognized them as the natural quartz crystals generally known as "Herkimer diamonds." With the television crew being expected to arrive here the following day, I hastily made some phone calls and soon had acquired a handful of the gemstones.

Although such stones are indeed sharp - and I could see a dark red spot inside the girl's eyelid that probably represented a wound from one of them - I decided to duplicate the effect. All that was necessary was to pull out the lower eyelid to form a pouch and drop in a small crystal so that it rested, only a bit uncomfortably, out of sight. A tug on the lower lid causes the stone to come into view and then pop out of the eye. This I demonstrated at an appropriate time for the television camera, allowing their reporter to actually do the extraction himself. The effect was indistinguishable from the Lebanese "miracle."

I heard about this WAAAY back. She cries glass right? She had some religious explanation for it.
