Things seem to be calming down, they're still fighting the fires.

ONE CONFIRMED DEATH. A firefighter was killed, in the service for 25 years.
1 person missing.
18 injured.

You've got to see it to believe it.

Holy crap, so was it just an accident or what?

All I can read is that it happened at the Propane place..

Holy shit. What the fuck?!

Hope everyone's alright down there. That shockwave must have been freaking scary.

Updated: things seem to be calming down. no serious injuries?!
http://cp24.com/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20080810/080810_explosion/20080810/?hub=CP24Home

Not a SINGLE major mainstream news station has said anything. (Only CNN had a 'breaking news' banner before, and now has a really tiny unnoticeable bit saying "Propane fireballs force evacuations (http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/americas/08/10/toronto.explosion/index.html)") Local is keeping it on the down low too.

Awesome explosion. The image of the flames backlighting the skyline is just incredible. Looks like art for a doomsday movie.

And I can appreciate the awesomeness of this explosion without guilt since nobody was hurt. Good stuff.

Omg, thats HUGE. Really hope no one got injured but the likelyhood of that is slim =\

I started to watch Cloverfield the other day (gave up cuz I actually felt sick, plus was
tired) and this reminded me of it for some reason.

That explosion was awesome, but due to it being in residential\industrial areas is kinda freaky.

That's what I thought of when I was watching them vids, with people screaming and the camera in the style of first person.

Reminds me of years ago when a huge power converter near our home exploded, it shook our house. Then the time a cargo ship exploded when I was fishing off the beach about 500 yards away.

As I said over at GBX, that thing is huge. Only one of the videos puts it into real perspective. It sucks that this will cause a serious financial hit, but the videos are amazing. Right before the giant explosion, you can see the propane around the area that's been mixed with air catch fire in a fucking awesome effect.

I will definitely use these videos as source material for any explosion effects I use in my digital media career. It has a sheer raw power you dont get by manmade explosives such as warplane bombs, etc.

Look for videos of fuel-air (thermobaric) bombs. They work the same way. Search videos of the American "MOAB" and the Russian "FOAB". Possibly the BLU-88 as well (though I'm not sure that was thermobaric).

The MOAB isn't thermobaric.

This may be the first time on the internet in a LONG while when the word "epic" was correctly used. That was epic. Pretty much the biggest explosion you can see without dying or putting yourself in extreme danger mb?
