View Full Version : Ugh...

My brother just saved a kitten from my dog...

He is/was wounded, but it has stopped bleeding and I'm curious what to do next. The kitten has teeth which would suggest he is atleast 4 weeks old, but his eyes are still blue, suggesting he isn't.

I can't get him to eat anything, and right now he is wrapped up in a towel in my dresser, weak and hardly moving.

Is there like a local vet or animal shelter you can call? Maybe they can take it off your hands and help it

No I tried, they are all closed with the Mon-Fri bullshit.

That's retarded. What I would do is call anyone who has experience with kittens. Keep a close eye on it. Have food and water near the kitten so he can eat when comfortable. Try to keep the spirits of the kitten up by petting him.

He is just sleeping like he is really tired.... and he like attempts to meow/cry when ever I touch him. :|

Yea kittens tend to sleep A LOT during the first few months of their life so it's all good. And the kitten is just a little scared and might have a hard time trusting someone for a bit. I remember my cousin getting a dog that took awhile for it to regain trust of people after being abused by another family.

Kalub

I think its more than that though, you see the dog that attacked him is a Shar-pei, and his chest was bleeding when we found him, so:

A. Lungs/ribs damaged
B. Muscle damaged causing him pain
C. Both

Because he seems to be kinda making a gasping sound when he tries to meow.

STLRamsFan
August 10th, 2008, 02:33 PM
Oh I see, the best thing you can do for him now is just keep him comfortable and calm. I would think it'll be more muscle damage than anything. As if he had lungs damaged, I doubt he would have made it this far to be quite honest. Hope the poor thing manages to pull it off..

Well, if it's anything, I think it would be muscle damage, since the kitten would probably be dead by now if it were the lungs. I agree with all the suggestions that the others said, and I really hope that the poor thing gets better.

Yea, I'm no cat lover, but I can't watch it die. It still won't eat or drink -- it just falls into a deep sleep, and if you wake it, it seems to 'choke' or gasp to try to meow. :| I'm just going to let it sleep in its towel.

Oh man, this is sad. I'm not a cat person either, so I can't really help. I hope this ends well.

Have you tried using a syringe (minus needle) to feed it milk?

Amit

has anyone tried to give it some first aid? Like clean up the wound?

This. Young kittens cant eat food on there own, they need to be fed like as if by their mother.

I have much experience with kittens, as my cats are whores and I've been through 6 litters. (and one more on the way) Our current kitten is 8 weeks old and just in the past day or so lost her blue eye color. They could be more than 4 weeks old.

If it is younger, feed it milk via a non-needled syringe or in some vets have little small sucking tubes sort of like a baby bottle (but I hardly see those)

If you can, wean it to water or kitten dry food. If you find its older than 5-6 weeks go ahead and feed it tuna or kitten wet food.

If you need anymore help, PM me.

I'm sorry but that was just heartless.

The only advice I'd have to give is let it sort of investigate/smell your hand before you try to pet it or pick it up.

I agree. I'm a little disgusted with that remark...

Yeah and make sure you place your hand with your palm facing up. They find that less threatening.

do not feed it cow's milk. you need to give it kitten formula.

Btw, The syringe idea is probably the best idea. Justkeep it warm and keep it fed.

If you want to know a really useless animal, it's horses okay. my mom has two. they're big, stupid, expensive, time consuming, injury prone, high maintenance and disgusting wastes of time. They're nice companion animals, but I think something like a cat is way more worth ones time.

I beg to differ. My horse keeps figuring out how to get out of a completely fenced in area somehow. Only does it when no one is watching, too. It's a pain in the ass, cause I have to take the fucking fence down to get the horse back inside.

If it's not up and about playing/eating/doing kitten things by mid day, consider taking it to a vet.

Seriously, if you came to my house and said that cats are useless, about 15 minutes later you'd get punched in the face because we've had something around 25-30 cats (we don't keep all of them, we give them away except we keep one or two from each litter) and we're a cat family.

If you have mice and/or insects such as lizards or crickets in your house, cats are a godsend.

Warsaw
August 11th, 2008, 07:12 PM
Hardly. I have four (4) cats, and the only things they do are destroy toilet paper, crap in the most random places they can find even with a fresh and clean litter box available, puke in inconvenient places like stairs, and put hair EVERYWHERE. Not one of them is a kitten, and all four are declawed.

I've had plenty of mice over here, and they never did jack shit to catch them.

Godsend: no.
Cute: only when they are little.

As for your kitten issue, I suggest you take it to the vet now that it is Monday. Even if it appears normal, there may be internal problems that are not immediately apparent.

This.

It's that coupled with the fact that I have recently (meaning within the last 2 years) developed an allergy to cats, that can explain why I don't like cats. Not to mention both cats my family has had didn't really return any love given to them. And no, rubbing up against you and jumping on your stomach while lying down is not what I call returning love.

Anyway, I agree with Warsaw again. Since it's Monday, take it to the vet.

e: Just saw your other post. I'd just check up on it all week and take it to the vet if you notice any problems. That is if you're willing to.

Sounds to me as if it's your fault. Train them... you're probably allowing them to get away with it. All cats I have ever owned, I've probably owned over 100 now, have been well behaved, used their litter boxes, etc. They are a godsend when it comes to pests. Especially when field mice/rats are everywhere here.

My dad's cat only attacks moths, in fact I caught a bird, and showed it to him; he was scared shitless.

Either way, the only problem he has is running around the house at 6am sharp meowing.
