View Full Version : [HALO 3] Microsoft puts Halo 3 on their PC Direct X list(accident mb?)

On Microsoft’s Download Center there seems to be glaring confirmation that Halo 3 will be ported to the PC. On the Game section of the Download Center (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Browse.aspx?displaylang=en&categoryid=1), there is a banner advertising free trials for three games. One of those games is Halo 3. Halo 3 hasn’t been announced for the PC yet. See the problem here? Here’s the banner:

The link in the banner just leads to a list of games that are available for Games for Windows at this time. Obviously, Halo 3 is absent from that list.
So was it a disgruntled employee or just an honest mistake that caused this big slip-up? Whatever it was, I bet this banner doesn’t stay up on the site long, so I pulled a screenshot of the page. Check it out, after the break.

it would be :awesome: if this was true, or :( if just a mistake

I seriously doubt Microsoft will pass up the chance to eventually milk some more money out of Halo 3 on the PC.

I also doubt it'll be anything better than the first 2 ports were.

It's totally possible that Bungie could do this port entirely inhouse.

As for Halo PC, that wasn't a bad port by any stretch of the imagination... except the netcode... that was terrible.

There was also the fact that it had ridiculous system requirements for a game that actually looked worse than the Xbox version (save for the higher resolution)

I dont really think any thing of it, they like to advertise their most popular game, whether it be xbox or pc. I think they just put that there so get people to look, they recognise halo 3 and think sweet free trial.

edit: blah, thought you meant halo 2

I'm going to bet that they're talking about a Halo1/2 PC trial and some idiot just used the Halo 3 logo without knowing much about the line of games.

Halo 2 trial... HA that won't happen.

The Halo 1 port of the game was amazing.. at the time. Great gameplay, great players.
However, NOW its horrrrrrribad.
Really hope that they just stop trying and leave the game be.

If it was done right, and does not end up as a complete joke like Halo 2 did, then this could be pretty awesome.

Microsoft should really learn from what they did with the Source engine and do the same for Halo 3 when they ever decide to bring it to the PC (its Microsoft, its in-fucking-evitable). Or hell, even Halo 1 at least.

If M$ is going to learn anything from the 2 ports, I just REALLY want them to learn that a locked editor is worse than no editor at all. I mean, they publish an EULA with it, so if you don't want to break it, all you have to do is just compile max files with it rather than make something new with it. Locking an editor either delays the inevitable or discourages having the game in the first place, as seen with HCE and H2V, respectively.

What Selentic meow said. The game would be awesome with nice netcode, better optimization etc. It wouldn't be a flop.

Maybe porting Halo 3 is Bungie's next project that has not been announced? :awesome:

Terin
August 17th, 2008, 05:27 PM
Because the bucketloads of console fanatics would really care for Bungie focusing on a PC port that they'd never play. :awesome:

We can wish, though. Bungie's large staff could possibly pull it off quickly.

guys guys, Bridge CE will now be produced not for Halo CE or H2Vista, but for H3PC! :O
[/sorry, ot much]

Well, ifwhen this happens, I hope they make it perfect, but, knowing Microsoft, there will be something unlikeable with the port.

Honestly, it was kinda hard for Microsoft to "learn lessons" from Halo PC, to Halo 2 Vista, because they were going into it with a completely different mindset - starting over, if you will. However, Halo 3 PC would now have to follow the GFWL form, in which case they can pick up a lot of mistakes from H2V, or an actual good form, like Halo Custom Edition and PC. Either way, it'll be improved, if they have a decent team that doesn't have to work with restrictions.

I just hope they hire people who know how to optimize the game to actually run well, while still looking the same or better. And, at the same time have a good netcode and play like a PC game rather than be an obvious port.
To be honest, Gearbox didn't do too bad a job with Halo 1. Especilaly considering the freedoms it gives us that we take for granted. But you have to admit, for its time, it required a computer from the future, and the netcode was terrible.

Infact, the whole GFWL platform could actually improve a bit. They also need to stop making it Vista exclusive unnecessarily.

GOW wasn't Vista exclusive, was it? Nvm, it was Games for Windows, I don't know about it's live functionality.

flibitijibibo
August 17th, 2008, 10:04 PM
The only games that have been Vista exclusive are H2V and Shadowrun. All other games and GFWL are available on XP. Also, with GFWL being 100% free, a lot of the normal online PC functions are there now, so the major problems that the service had are pretty much gone.

If that goes away then GFWL would be good...

It however would also be pretty much pointless o.O

If the game has a server browser that's all I'll need.

They better keep that gay ass Games for Windows Live shit out of there too. Locking SP due to hacking for the achievements is bull... especially considering the fact that all people had to do was change map names to unlock all the SP achievements for H2V anyway.

Plz God... no Live accounts in my H3PC...

EDIT: Actually I didn't read the posts above me so disregard that I suck cocks

But man if they release a CE style editor for that, just imagine the kind of shit people could make.. I'd totally remake the Shock Rifle in the H3 engine. It would be beautiful ;w;

The netcode was spectacular, with it being able to cope with 56k connections as well as superfast ones without having some horrible unbalanced lag where you aren't able to hit players with slow connections.

Shock Rifle? Psh, I'd be makin' me a gravity gun (probably using the forge controls).

Either that, or try and get Seraphim to migrate Metroid Online to H3.

Or at least only allow achievements to be unlockable in the maps that come with the game..

This should throw off Prometheus release till halo 4 -_-

That's still in development? I thought nick was too busy sucking his own thumb in fear of the internet.

Don't you know? Prometheus is the biggest hoax in the history of the Internets.

I doubt that this is more then some website designing making a mistake and placing the H3 logo there. Otherwise there would be an ARG of some sort :downs:.

Though it wouldn't hapopen for obvious reasons, wouldn't be a kicker if Halo 3 was released through Steam?

If it's ported and comes with an EK, I wonder what would become of Forge? I mean, the map and gametype system was created with the idea of Forge in mind, and to be honest, leaving in Forge for making log mods isn't that bad of an idea. You could argue that taking it out would force users to make custom content, but it would only be a matter of time until someone makes a tag converter and you have a bunch of Valhalla remakes crapping up your file list.

And also, there's the features of the game that make it great for the console, that shouldn't be brought to the PC. File Shares, for example; while on the console, it's great because there's no other way without modding to share content on the internet, why waste Bungie's bandwidth when you could just have the game package up the needed files into an easy-to-find installer, and the poast it somewhere for all to find.

Prometheus is a lie. There is no Prometheus. There never was and never will be. Prometheus is a myth, a dream that died long ago and has been erased from this realm. (http://main.halodev.org/)

jngrow
August 25th, 2008, 12:47 AM
I agree plenty polar. File Share seems like a dumb idea for PC, and they should keep forge in, it has advantages that making a completely custom map doesn't, like not having to download an entire new map, real-time, the casual-ness of it, and the fact that it will be WAY easier to use on a PC.

They should remove fileshare because eventually someone will find a way to upload viruses.
