Error When Launching Halo 2

My computer fulfills the requirements of playing Halo 2 and I have successfully installed Halo 2 on Windows Vista. But then, once I double-clicked Halo 2, I get this error message:

"LIVE Gaming on Windows failed to initialize. This may be because another LIVE Gaming on Windows application (such as the Halo 2 dedicated server) is running on the same machine. Otherwise, reinstalling the game may fix this problem."

So, I could not play Halo 2. But, I did not launch Halo 2 dedicated server when I tried to play Halo 2, so this error message puzzles me. Reinstalling the game still did not solve this problem. Can anyone help me to solve the problem? Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you very much.

My first guess would be that you were trying to play the game on XP. Taking you for your word, I'd suggest restarting the computer and trying again. If that fails, open up your task manager and see if there are any instances of Live running in the background. If so, close them. If that doesn't work, you should take the game's advice and try reinstalling.

This happened to me when I installed the live update before installing halo 2. What I had to do is uninstall the update and halo 2 then reinstall just halo 2 and update through the auto update in the game.

My first guess would be that you were trying to play the game on XP.

That shouldn't happen on XP because the XP hack doesn't involve Live. At least, it didn't when I played it <_<

Well, for your information, my computer runs Windows Vista and I installed the game on Vista. I did not see any any instances of Live running in the background when launching the game. I did not installed the live update. And, I have reinstalled the game several times and to my dismay, the same problem still occurs. As to now, I am still clueless on how to solve the problem and I really want to play the game very much. Please, can anyone offer some advise for me? Any help is very much appreciated.
