This is a model I've made several times but this time i'm alot better than I was before my last attempt. I'm going to unwrap, rig, and normal map it and try to make a diffuse and specular for it. 139094 polies on the grenade. i was gonna bake the details into a normal map but i never got around to finishing them. the buttons and switches also need to be scaled up and spread across the surface of the grenade more evenly cause they're quite insanely small.

Sorry it's taken so long for an update. I've been trying to find a way to make everything so it wont clip when it all moves. such as when the hand goes into the wrist. it's quite hard cause i'm also trying to lower the polycount of the whole thing (gundam, buster rifle, beam saber, and shield) to 8000 or less when it's done.

I'm taking a little break from the gundam to work on some fp halo 3 masterchief arms for sigma mapping team. ironclad said they needed someone to do it so i decided to help out. so far this has taken 2 days and most of it was done in one. i just need to make the hands now.

It may just be the angle its shot at but it seems like the chest area needs to be brought out more, there's something not quite right about it yet I can't put my finger on it :\

well I've been asked to make a custom hand plate for the armor. we've decided on calling it the vanguard type (all Halo 3 armor permutations have names :-P )

they look a tad 'small', the origional handplate was rather chunky and made the Chief look butch, these however dont have that butch feeling

well i cant make em much bigger without it interfering with animations. and if i make the hand bigger it'll probably clip the armor when it bends using the stock halo animations. so I'm going on the safe side. I'm not going through all halo 1's animations to make sure it doesn't clip either XD.
Edit: the hands plates aren't "Bigger", just thicker. i mean, they do go over the forearm but that again would interfere with animations.

hand plates didnt change in the origional armour perms.
make an interesting Spartan helmet, chest and shoulderpad kit would be more fitting

Just so it is different. Hand plates in general have no real purpose, its just to set it apart from the original arms.

It's donuts original handplate design. he put it together really quickly i presume from splines and i changed it into what it looks like on the arms.

why dont you take the top details of teh new hand plate and put it on the base of the origional... :\ (where those 3 circular intusions are)
that would be more fitting i beleive if scaled correctly - this is onyl from what my head imagines it to be but do try with it please.

no, it's stock. but ironclad's coming up some custom ones. my job is done. the arms are completely finished save for the textures. geo's doing those. i'll resume making the gundam unless someone else needs me to make something.

We're possibly going to go into a custom biped, that will essentially be an alteration on the mk 6. We just need to come up with a good concept. That is, if moses does decide to be a full member <3

ok, i worked on the gundam a little bit today and then watched the second bleach movie, Diamond Dust Rebellion from dattebayo.com :-D anyway, it's late so i'm not gonna start on the gun tonight. and since i model from bottom to top , the head is last every time.

The rear of the shield has too much of a curve downward. I don't believe it curves that much.

Oh the inconsistencies of traditionally drawn anime. It's actually hard to believe Gundam SEED, SEED Destiny and 00 are actually rendered with filters. The shield will do then. I'm anxious to see the buster rifle though. :-3

Actually in SEED Futuka tried to re-tell the UC storyline but in a more futuristic way. SEED Destiny was the same only it tried to represent Zeta Gundam.

The buster rifle is far too large in comparison to the Gundam. The Buster Rifle is a large weapon, but it would never stretch below the Wing Gundam's feet were it pointed straight down. You need to size it down a little.

Ya, didnt really notice till the render was done. i finished the rifle and was setting it up while on the phone with an Art Institutes representative and she wanted to see the finished render. clay renders take a while so i was rushing. also, it does stretch just about to the bottom of his feet.

i fixed it to look more like this and i shortened the shield a bit so it doesn't interfere with the shortened Rifle in bird mode
also, let's be adults about this children :-P
btw, i might just turn this into a halo biped when i finish it and make a cockpit first person.

first person cockpits are a bitch to make, iirc. I haven't made one myself, but I don't think they generally work out.

Shouldn't be too hard. the modelling will be pretty easy and animating will be simple. moving will have the cockpit move up and down a lil and the hands will move the controls. firing and stuff will have the person in the cockpit pressing buttons and stuff. the camera screens will be faces with transparent scanlines that make it look like what you're seeing is a moniter projecting what's outside the gundam.

I haven't been feeling too well these past few days. think it's from these damn seasonal allergies. until this damn headache and sore throat go away I probably wont be working on my models. also, for the gundam, if i do make it a biped I think ironclad would be good for animating the fp. it'll be a little different than what you're used to but there will be a pilots arms on the joysticks so it shouldn't be much different.

ok boys, here's what's been going on. I've been sick in bed for the past nearly 2 weeks and every now and then i got up and worked on the uvw's for wing, buster rifle, saber, and shield (which I made a totally new version based off the one they use in A.C.E. for reasons involving how it moves on the arm). I completed them right after i started feeling better and today i started on and finished the rig. if anyone could point me to a good tutorial on making inverse kinetic rigs in 3DS Max 8 then you'll be speeding up the animating process alot and i will be quite grateful :-) . and now, I leave you with a present.

I could only use 32 bones to rig the whole thing because that's all halo supports so alot of things I had to find a way around. good news though is there is not clipping at all or deformities and that makes me very happy :-D
finally, I might make another gundam if this one turns out nicely when it's done. these are the candidates: Shenlong, Sandrock, Wing (already making it :-P), Deathscythe, and Heavyarms respectively

ok, I've been preoccupied with other things lately but I've also been working on the gundams IK rig and the texture. the IK rig is almost done but I stopped before i finished the right arm to work on the texture. I'm about half done with the texture and i've been getting bugged to post a render so here ya go (the specular used in the render is the diffuse map so it's not completely accurate.)

Honestly idk y i Haven't finished the last liek 4% of the texture yet. I'm very easily distracted with other things. llama juice is quite aware of my tendency to go from one thing to another and forget about the other stuff lol. Anyway, this is a big improvment from what it used to look like, buuuuuttt I still havent gotten around to touching it in the last 4 or 5 months >_<. Hopefully this will motivate me to finish it.

Actually it's more than just rigged. Like I said somewhere else, I've been experimenting with inverse kinematics and this is my first attempt. It works pretty well but I'm gonna redo it before I animate. I just finished a Warcraft 3 rig (trying to mod DotA and become familiar with severely low poly modeling techniques as well) on a very low poly version of this which I can animate with a lot easier. I'll prolly copy the idea to this one.

HURRAY FOR LOW POLY MODELING! Not really as low as I prolly should go for warcraft but this is about as low as I can go without losing too much shape. I already made an 877 tri megaman so yea lol. Anyway, the ik on this one is working out more beautifully than the other. This pose took prolly less than a minute to get. I realize it's not perfect but it was really just a test.

his left arm needs to be up a little bit more along with an open hand if possible. Other than that looking good.
I already realized that. The foot also needs to point more upward but It didn't look good from any other angle. Also the hand is only 14 triangles so I cant really open the hand. It's not meant to. Like i said it's not perfect. I'll be making a series of animations for this warcraft 3 model. Partly because I doubt anyone here has max 4.2 lol. Mostly tho because I need to begin learning animating.

IIRC the handle slides forward and back from recoil during the fire animation (or is that just in H2?), so I'd want to make some edits to the model (or at least plan for it in the skin) to allow for that. Also, the clamp around the rods looks a tad too thick - I don't think it'd be so fun to animate with something so large in the way.

I believe ur talking about h2. I don't have halo 3 but I don't see how the handle can slide forward at all, it's the handle for christs sake. If ur talking about the barrel tho i understand what u mean but it does allow it to slide back. and thnx for telling me about the thickness of the clamp. I thought it might be too thick but I decided i'd let the community critique the rest of the way.

A friend told me I should make a spartan laser model after he saw my fuel rod and my time completion. Originally I was going to say I'd model one for the community but then another friend basically said I should take requests. After I make the fp model of the fuel rod I wont really have anything to make so if ppl can provide good multiviews and detail views then I'll model whatever it is they want for them. As long as it's nothing stupid >_> . U get a weapon or w/e and I get experience and a new portfolio piece.

Well advancebo wants me to make a h3 shade turret. So far it's taken me almost 6 hours to make tho I owe a lot of that to how hard it is to tell how parts are shaped. Refrences don't get good enough angles and the damn thing is too shiny :-/. It's blurring shit together D-: anyway, enough of my bitching, I'll update this when it's done.

Though the base of it should look a bit shorter, or wider. And the main hull of it a little larger, also. Looks off proportions from the base to the hull.

I've been looking through all the references quite a few times to try and get it to look right. there are a few things i needed to fix such as the connector things for the side panels, the horn on the base, and shrink the guns. This turret's design is severely annoying >_>

I felt like posting this just cuz. I had to draw something incorporating certain design elements but from a still life. So I had Donut pose for me :-D Hope you all like it.

Holy Crap I need to dust this thread off. Anyway, thought I'd post something I've been working on for a little bit that I just finished the high poly model for. I'm going to make a lower poly model at around 5000-6000 tris, bake a normal map and ambient occlusion for it from this, and texture it. When I'm done I'm going to post the resources here. Except for the high poly model. That's my proof I made it.

The level of detail is nice, and I know in Reach the grip is very square, but you said it yourself, "concept". Take their design and put your own spin on it. Beef the grip up a little and make it look more ergonomic or something. Get some other shapes in there besides boxes with chamfered edges. Right now it looks meh. Take some modern day aspects (like current laser sights and such) and use aspects of those to make theirs more appealing.

I also believe I told you that I have zero capacity to concept. I'm being totally serious. I suck ass at concepting forms. I'm pretty god with concepting other things though such as systems for weapons, vehicles, code, etc. I've tried though to concept. It takes so long for me to that's not even worth it to and I have never gotten anything good out of it. When I say it takes a long time I mean I was stuck on the same new MJOLNIR concept for like 6 months. So yea, I DO NOT concept. Besides, I was asked to model this just as it is in Reach. And I will.

This isn't really a huge concepting effort you require here. Just thicken the grip up a bit, and then clean it up to make it work. You're definitely good enough to do it.

I already thickened the grip tho. It's not in this render because it'll take much too long to make another render at a 4096x3072 render like I wanted to do. It's 15% thicker so don't worry about it. I also thought it looked kinda skinny but I wanted to finish it before I judged.

Okay, before I say anything let me say I will ignore your comment if it involves "Gundam/Anime/Mecha/your design sucks ass" or anything with a related intended meaning.
So, anyway, I've been working on this for the past couple days as a new skin for my PSP 1000 (PHAT) I got from trading Plague some n64 controllers and 25$. I've got an idea of how I'm going to get it applied to the psp involving the use of a company that prints off water transfer decals using 300 dpi images you send to them and then seal it myself after it's applied using something(possibly a thin coat of epoxy applied after some dullcoat spray).
Aside from the aforementioned, I'd like some feedback on what you guys think. Anything you find out of place, hard to see, could use placement tweaking, etc. Of course, (looks at teekup) "HOLY CRAP THAT"S AWESOME!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!11111" is acceptable too lol. I've printed off a test page to see if everything is lined up correctly and before I fixed it I was pretty damn close. Anyway, enough of my rambling. Here's the front and back. As you'll see the PSP I used as a base was a pre-E3 render so it wasn't totally accurate, but it was big enough and accurate enough to work with.

Try centering Wing's face over the buttons instead of off set like that, raise Luna slightly above the D-pad as well.
Good job on the pilots though, I also approve of using the Wing Gundam Ver Ka shield in the center. :-3

Magnum is finished. I tried to make it a bit more pristine than the actual reach magnum. No deep gouges or anything. I didn't really like that since after talking to snaf about it for a while I realized exactly how good condition a military weapon would actually be in irl. I'll be releasing the tiff files and the low poly on this thread once ifafudafi and h3freak get it from me and get to use it first for a while.

P.S. This was rendered with standard settings and a basic blinn shader. the only thing special was I used automatic exposure control to try to bring out the scratches more which causes highlights to be brighter and shadows to be darker. Kinda like autolevels in photoshop. Also, the reason the magazine is considered separate from the magnum is because I'll be using this in my oblivion mod as well and the magazines are able to be picked up separately from the magnum in the game world. They function as ammo and thus are a separate object in their own right.

I love the fact that I don't have to use that lolhueg whatever-the-hell-it-is on the front of the pistol. It makes the weapon look original but still feel like Halo, which is exaclty the aesthetic I'm going for.

It IS the scope. But other than that, you're correct; it's where the "2x Smart Linked Scope" comes from in the original manual.

I always wanted to see the M6D/G pistols without the scope. Looks pretty awesome. I would make the laser sight darker and give the front sight a more defined glow, though. The skin's looking pretty monotonous at the moment, though I imagine it's not finished yet.

No, it's finished, and honestly I wont really change much on it. I know it's bland but that's because I don't want to put all kinds of heavy wear details and gradients on it. I wanted to make something more Crysis style pristine for once. I asked snaf for feedback on what a real military gun's wear and tear would look like and came up with this. Go ahead and say you don't like my style choice, It doesn't bother me. I'm using it in Oblivion and I expect others to use it in much better engines than Halo CE's so as to make it look as good as it can be. So yea, I'm happy with it and if you're not then sorry about your luck.
I'll probably increase the size of the glow radius a little on the front red sight. I like the tone of the laser though so I don't want to change it.
