It started doing this several weeks ago. It just does this, and it won't play. I reinstalled, did several virus scans, it came up clean. Any ideas on what to do?
Edit: I was talking about halo, for all of you who didn't know.

looks like you have 16 bit color enabled.

It sometimes changes from pink to blue. But when I take a screenshot, it turns up black.

Eh, it's just easier to blame vista for all our problems than to find out what they actually are.

no, i love vista.
looks like you have no video card drivers installed.. and like snaf said, its running in 16 bit mode.
run windows update if you cant do it manually, it usually installs your latest vid card drivers along with other updates.

I've never had any issues with Vista that weren't solved by a simple look at vistax64 (http://www.vistax64.com/)... Then again, I've never really had ANY problems with Vista since RTM was released... I also love Vista.
EDIT: Fuck you Bacon. Taking my suggestions and posting them seconds before me.

Uh, the problem is with Halo. This happens every time I boot it up.

Check your compatibility settings? As stated, make sure your graphics drivers are updated...

I actually want Vista but too lazy to get it, I'm used to my XP layout anyway and don't want to adjust to the minor/major changes to Vista. GJ fixing it.

WUT!
He likes me more than you.
See how that works?

Next time you format, try installing Vista instead of XP and work with it. That's what I did when I got in on the Vista betas, they had some issues back then, but they were fixed up. Now I'll never go back.

I hate Ubuntu because it always gives me some kind of "RamFS" error whenever I try to use the LiveCD option =<.
After you trim all the shit off Vista is actually quite enjoyable.

Love the look, but what they did to the layout of the control panel/prompts kills me....

you can switch to classic view.

Yea... Classic View for the win, I used it in XP as well, so there hasn't been any change.

No not that. Just how they renamed everything like, to get to Network Connections you have to go in through Network Sharing, ect. Its a pain trying to help people over the phone when you don't have vista in front of you, or have hardly any experience with it.

I can't see any text. Here's a screenshot of what the My Games window looks like:

It seems to have screwed up some bits of my non steam games too. For instance, I'm having what seems to be clipping errors in MDK(made in 1997, by the way) which has never happened before. I haven't tried playing Halo or Halo 2 to see if it's screwed them up yet, but I'm guessing it did something wrong to them as well.

hmm, looks like steam itself got corrupted... have you tried reinstalling steam?
(you can backup your steamapps folder so you don't have to re download all your games)
something like that has to be caused by bad video card drivers.

The most useful article IMHO about Vista is (not really surprising I bet) at Tweakguides (http://www.tweakguides.com/VA_1.html).

I haven't tried re-installing Steam yet, but I did re-install my graphics card drivers. That didn't seem to do much. I'm going to re-install Steam later today and see if that fixes it.

I was about to step in to the defense of Ubuntu, and at that very moment it suddenly and catastrophically crashed for no apparent reason. Sigh. It pains me to say it, but so far in my experience Windows XP has been far more stable than this Ubuntu distro I'm using.

D: Fail. Reinstalling Steam didn't do anything.
