This is for the 360 version, in case you PS3fags see something inconsistent here.

Good!

-Remember how Force Push knocked a few guys down at max power in Jedi Outcast? Yeah, well this one will send a whole squad and all surrounding objects flying twenty yards. Needless to say, the guys die.

-Holding the right trigger picks up stuff. You can then move it and/or throw it at things. While holding an object, you can do things to it. For example, you can pick up a Stormtrooper, charge him with a Force Lightning bolt, and then launch him at the rest of his platoon as an unstable Lightning grenade. Or you can sipmly toss your lightsaber and impale him through the chest.

-Lightsaber combat is simple but effective. You can just mash the X button for a simple combo, but if you time each swing right, you'll be treated with a much more effective combo. You can also combine fighting with other powers; for instance, X(Attack)-X-B(Force Push) will cause you to swing your lightsaber like a golf club, and activate a force push upon impact, sending whoever you hit flying.

-The mini-boss battle at the end of the demo has an awesome finisher. I'll leave it up to you to find out.

Geh!

-Digital Molecular Matter. That's the technology that breaks shit into pieces depending on point and strength of impact. Well, it only really works on one or two surfaces I saw; everything else was just an object breaking into the same two chunks every time.

-Characters reacting to their surroundings. An example was provided: Enemies who are being pulled will grab onto objects in order to stay on the ground. Yeah, they do that. And that's about all they do. While the Stormtrooper hanging on for dear life by a crate is indeed a cackle-inducing experience, I didn't see the characters do anything else worth mentioning. The AI itself is pretty sub-par.

-Targeting is sketchy at times. Often, I would be trying to lift an enemy out of the box he was hiding behind, only to grab a crate ten feet away from him. Sure, I simply smashed him with the crate I grabbed and all was well, but the point stands.

-Lightning, while powerful, doesn't really serve as much of a purpose on its own as Push and Grip.

Overall, I love the amount of ass to be kicked with the Force here, but all the fancy stuff they were advertising the Euphoria engine with is either absent in the demo or severely overestimated, and there are some glitches that need cleaning.

But why are you listening to my opinions? Go download the demo and see for yourself.

I've played this quite a few times, but I can't kill that damn AT-ST. If anybody has any tips, I'd appreciate it. Besides that though, so far, it's an amazing game.

Kill all the Stormtroopers first. Then, Lighting, jump, slicesliceslice, Lightning, jump, slicesliceslice, repeat.

Eventually, you'll get a button prompt after a slice. Follow that and you'll do a fuckin' awesome finishing attack.

It wasn't bad. I just really loved the balance between force and lightsaber power in the Jedi Knight series while your saber in this game seems sub par to your (wtfpwn?) force abilities. This guy lifts Tie Fighters like they're nothing while it took Yoda hard concentration to lift the X-Wing.

It looks like a fun game and I will probably rent it, but Jedi Knight has spoiled me so.

I was very surprised the the game is even coming to the DS and PC users such as myself and hung out to dry. I have no way of getting my hands on a nex-gen console. I'm almost disgusted.

What Amit said, but I doubt it'll live up to Jedi Knight 1 and 2 anyway.

Eh, you're not really missing anything Amit. IMO, the control was awfully awkward, and even frustrating during large enough fights. This game has the same problem that most games with supermassivedeathninja moves have: everything's prescripted. This would be okay if it weren't actually EVERYTHING. If it's not in a known sequence, it isn't possible. Best example: anything involving a jump. The only thing possible with jumping is smashing your saber downward, and that's really it. I don't know if that's because I wasn't a high enough level, but that's the other problem: Levels! Leave that shit to KOTOR, I'd rather be able to do everything from the start. If I can think of a combo, I should be able to do it, rather than do busy work just to obtain the ability. That's like disabling vertical moves in Soul Calibur until you reach the end of the game.

I dunno, maybe Jedi Outcast spoiled me. At least in that game movements/attacks were flexible...

I find the controls quite good, and not frustrating in the least bit. You can do many things while jumping, such as Force Push, do combos, kick ass, etc... And the amount of available combos is quite good. XY, XXY, and XXYY all do different things, and there are tons more than that. You've just got to experiment a little. I find the levels are a good, thing, it makes it so you're not uber powerful at the beginning. The leveling system is in no way like it is in KOTOR. In this, after you fight a certain amount, you gain a new ability, unlike KOTOR, where you can choose out of many things to change.

I've played the Jedi Knight games, and they are different. Sure, they allow more things, but that's because that's the type of game it is. This is meant to be the way it is, and I find it does a good job.

The controlls were terrible, same old objects just placed around the whole level. The ai just stand there and shoot. I only had it once where they grabbed onto another trooper. I witnessed once where the breakable glass was. I think they can't place too much of the breakable objects for performance issues it seems or they just lack in those areas. My ending experience is that it is overated.. not as good as I expected. Maybe they should have let us play in those gummy forest environment I saw in the trailers.

Personally i think its the best Star Wars game i've played, just beats Republic Commando then KOTOR, i really really enjoyed the demo, but we all like different things.

I've had that happen many times, it depends on where they are at the time. If I hold them, and happen to carry them past another trooper, then they will hold on to one another.

I can see people in the future trying to line them up and have them all grab eachother  I'll let teekie decide where they get grabbed :-3

Pretty decent, played it through once, now trying on Sith lord difficulty. One thing I did hate was the fact when you jump and use your force push, your guy becomes so rigid in control wise. Just doesnt feel natural.

Going for harder level now :D

I didn't like the Devil May Cry like jump. Its too fast up and down.

Wait wait wait WAIT! Being a PS3 owner makes me a fag? lol, I know it's all in good fun. I hope...

I haven't downloaded the demo yet, but now that I've heard all this stuff from you guys about it, I think I'll wait until I've read some reviews online after the game is released before I give it a shot. The demo doesn't sound too exciting at the moment.

i dont understand...as soon as I make a joke about him I get hell for it. when did it go out of style?
No, its not just you. I didn't mean to target you. Sorry.

You guys can make all the gay dick jokes you want. I may even do it. Just dont target someone like that. Its not in good taste. Let him make is own teek gay jokes if he wants but dont do it for him. Idc if he doesn't care...its just fucked up. Isn't it against the rules anyways?

Well I completed the Sith Lord level 3 times before getting bored and going to bed, and it didnt unlock whatever level is below it. Balls =\

Demo seemed way to short too :(

Im not impressive with the lightsaber controls, to me star wars is all about the lightsaber, the force stuff is meh but mostly sabers. I was hoping you'd have direct control via the right analogue stick or something sick like that, rather than preset animations via x button wtf lame.

Just played it. First thing that came to mind was Dynasty Warriors + Force Powers. Just a lot of x bashing and jumping around. Though the AI is nice enough. I should probably learn to use the force powers more, though.

Ifafudafi
August 25th, 2008, 12:00 PM
The whole point of the game is the use of Force Powers, not the lightsaber. I remember reading in an interview somewher that the lightsaber should simply be your fallback weapon when you're out of power or too close to an enemy.
Slicing enemies in this game is not as fun as Jedi Knight. Charging a Force Push and sending five Stormtroopers flying half a mile is much more fun than Jedi Knight.

Well the force is really fun, I love picking up a box lightning it and then throwing it into a group of people, watching it mow them down then exploding. But I dont think you should sideline the saber, make it as useful as the force. Just because you dont fully play the good guys doesnt mean sabers shouldnt be a big thing, the dark side always was great at lightsabers.

Stuff it.

Uh...the first smilie belongs with the first half. I knew I should have used a period. And second, shut up Pooky. If there is a problem somebody notify Teekup and show my comment to him. Let him be the judge of it. And it's not necessarily a gay joke. If it were the way I wanted it, I'd have them grab their heads. Whose to say Teekup wouldn't say the same?

Alright I agree to stop posting about the subject but I have one question. Can you explain to me why you just decide to bring this up now and not a few weeks or even months ago?

Any word on when the PC demo is coming out?

There won't be a PC demo :(

There won't be a pc version period, because a keyboard would make the game way too easy, especially with single button mashing thing.

Just downloaded it, at first I was impressed but as someone else said the props used get a little repetitive. On one of the parts where your about to fight the AT-ST the doors before that are rather thin (the grey doors that you can jump through rather than smashing open), when smashing them with the props some of them got wedged through each other.
The other thing I disliked about the demo is that when you are fighting a lot of AI with the lightsaber it seems to like lock the frame and to me it looks bad.

Overall though I thought that for the size of the demo which is around about a gigabyte the actual gameplay you got to play was very short. I liked it, it was fun.

Meh, I was hoping it would be more Like Jedi Outcast/Academy, but it was still fun. Felt the controls didn't feel as smooth as I would have hoped either.

I'm having trouble locking onto objects. Is there a way to scroll through objects, or does it always target the closest one? BUG REPORT!

Jedi Outcast/Academy had the most boring, unsatisfying lightsaber combat IMO. In this I can actually feel my lightsaber hitting stuff. While Jedi Academy/Outcast were good, why were you guys expecting it to be like it? JA was an FPS/TPS/Adventure kind of game, this is obviously an action game with some RPG elements thrown in. I definately notice the Euphoria engine, as the ragdolls look and act great, and the amount of crazy shit that can happen/you can do really makes it phun with physics. Only problem I had with the demo was length, the same objects over and over again, and the God of War style boss fight finisher (although the animation was awesome), and force grip controls were a little awkward. Other than that, I think that was friggin amazing and I am definately looking forward to this game.

P.S. Very polished graphics :P.

e: I agree with Devil May Cry jump though. Jumping was awesome in JA/O/K (i'm not even sure how they were officially named anymore).

No.

People probably expect this game to be like them because that's what it has to live up to. Those games are the standard for Jedi action games, I suppose.
