I wonder if it would put the PS3 ahead of the XBox 360?

Or this can be speculation about the tech demo ;_;. The link Sexy was referring too would be this: http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3140613
The tech demo was for the ps3s technology, not the announcement of a remake.

I would get it if it came out. I had FF7 ages ago but never finished it.

This is one of the games I would love to see remade, as long as its systems remain untouched. The only major gripe I have with 7 as it is is the graphics.
But, neither Sony nor Square have made any announcement to do so, In fact, I believe they said they have no plans to do it anytime in the forseeable future. Just as it was said, you may just have heard things said by overzealous fans who saw the tech demo and read too far into it.

god fucking dammit, 7?
6 was way better, it just wasn't as good visually, being made originally for the super nintendo. If they remade 6 it would be alot more interesting, cause final fantasy 7 has been overdone and blown to shithouse. Plus 6 has a way better story and characters.

CG cutscene from FF6, when it was ported to the Playstation.

That looks odd but cool, I should check it out.

The FMV cutscenes and little bonus features (namely, bestiary) just aren't enough to warrant the game's PAINFUL loading times on the Playstation.
Seriously, you wait about 10 seconds when transitioning to and from battles, and a little more when entering a new area. :|

Well I liked FF6 and 7 a LOT, but a VI remake would probably be more interesting, albeit it wouldn't sell as well.

I dunno about that, 7 has been done to death. The onlyreason 7 was so hyped and so good to everyone is because coincidently it was the first FF that was 3D.
I still think FF6 revamped in HD 3d would be a much better and newer experience to alot of people.

Funny, I thought FF7 was good because it had an engaging story and interesting characters.
Guess I was wrong D:

Hey guys, I've never played a FF game.
In what way is it not the definition of JRPG? And why is 7 so much better than the others?

It is the definition of a JRPG. IMO, it's the definition of a JRPG done right.
And why is 7 so much better than the others?
It's not, really, but it's the only one that kept me interested enough to attempt seeing it through (my PS bricked before I could finish it).
FF6 fanboys keep in mind I never played 6

7 is "so much better" (note the quotes) because it brought the series to the 3d realm. This opened up the opportunity for some breathtaking (at the time) cinematics in and out of battle, as well as better effects for attacks while in battle. In addition, it gave up the standard setting of medieval or post-apocalyptic-rebuilt times and went with a more modernized setting, which worked out pretty well.
Also, I might add that 7 was Square's second "make it or break it" point, the first one being their first Final Fantasy. They nearly went out of business again, and 7 would either save them or kill them.

Heh, I remember parts of 6, I played it a long long time ago, bought it for the PS1 and never played it all the way through. Too bad my PS2 is in such shit shape, otherwise I'd go back and play it =/.
Locke was a cool main character. Tetra was interesting, but the fact that she is missing for a good portion of the game (well, that I replayed up to anyway) kind of sucks. Edward and Sabin (?) weren't very interesting. Still, I liked FFVI.
I think VII, IX and (don't kill me) X were better though.

Terra* and Edgar*. Calling lynch mob, brb. :maddowns:
You lose Terra for that little bit where you have to find out where she flies off to, then you l2summon and invade the Magitek Factory. Then you have her up until the point where you lose everyone in your party and have to find them again.

Give me a crash course of the storyline.A small game company named Square was going out of business way back during the NES era, so they threw out one final effort to save themselves, but not with high hopes. Expecting it to be their last game, they called it "Final Fantasy."
Needless to say, the game turned out to be a hit. Then they made more. Then they ate up Enix.
No games have a continuous storyline (save for Final Fantasy X and X-2, and the expansions on 7's storyline, such as Crisis Core, Before Crisis, and Dirge of Cerberus). They each take place in different worlds with different characters and different stories, though games tend to cross-reference each other, have recurring themes, or have cameos; for example, in FFTactics, if you find a certain item and keep a key character in your party, you unlock Cloud as a playable character. In FF9, there's a puzzle sequence that references the story from Final Fantasy 2 (NES). Every game has at least one airship in some way, shape, or form, and a character who is named or goes by the name "Cid."

8's Junctioning system was awesome. Too bad they ruined it with seemingly badass characters that actually turned out to be gigantic wussbags (lollin' at Irvine).

Indeed. It made sense too. I am disgusted by some of the newer "character enhancing" systems, like ff10's node grid shit. 7 and 8 will be the best final fantasies forever if you ask me. 7 had an epic storyline and characters with a cliffhanger ending that pissed fans off to no end, and 8 had awesome characters and a romantic theme that hit the pussies softies who usually play final fantasy games pretty effectively.
