Remote controls?

Is there a device that looks like a car reote you would see on a set of keys that just turns on or off a device?

A buddy of mine has his CD player in his car hooked up to a constatly hot wire that he turns on or off with a switch (That way the car can be off and he can still play music[dont ask me why >_>]) He has a nice system and is usually the center of attention at parties, but would like to be able to go, "Beep Beep *music*."

Anything like that? I for sure would use it on my computer to enable or disable the physical power switch.

Would it work for what I needed? All it has to do is control a 12guage wire that carries the power from the battery, about 12v...
