The right-hander has a fastball that tops out at about 40 mph. He throws so hard that the Youth Baseball League of New Haven told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more. When Jericho took the mound anyway last week, the opposing team forfeited the game, packed its gear and left, his coach said.

Moar here. (http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=ap-toogoodtopitch&prov=ap&type=lgns)

Holy shit, that kid could take someones face off :o

Sure it's not a kid and just a really strong cutesy looking midget?

It's awesome that he can pitch at that speed, but he's a danger to other players of his age. Playing against older players would probably be a suitable compromise.

A danger to kids his age? You're joking right? They're basically saying "you're too good, gtfo". Stop neutering the children, please. As soon as a challenge arrives, run away because you will lose and you're inferior.

wtf is wrong with people.

I have mixed feelings about this. Sure, it's stupid that they kick him out because he's too good, but he is much better than the others, and could cause a minor injury, which is normal enough in baseball I think.

You send a baseball at a 9-year-old at 40MPH and eventually there's going to be a serious injury. Parents prefer their children having fun while being safe.

Playing against older players would both challenge the child more and allow him to develop his skills without the risk of harming someone, and yet you say he's being neutered?

I think it's a fair call, provided the kid's allowed to play in an older league. Maybe with kids a few years his senior. He isn't going to get any better playing against terribly inferior opponents. The boy needs challenge.

And so now the kid is forced to not play with his friends and is put in more danger? GG

What? What?

He's pitching at a level above his age, thus it would make more sense to put him with people of similar skill.

yes he can pitch better, but not catch or bat or run or whatever else you yanks do in your crazy game.

I'm from the UK, so I'm not sure if they do all-rounders in Baseball like they do in Cricket. I'd assume they'd let him concentrate on pitching, since that's what he's best at.

Except they forgot to mention the fact that the kids are wearing helmet with face guards. So, NO, there's NOT going to be serious injury.

Not to mention that they DEMANDED the team be disbanded, and when the team showed up to the next game, the other team QUIT. LOSERS.

Murf. The baseball won't necessarily just hit their face, there's the rest of their body to worry about, and I'm willing to bet that a 40MPH baseball can break bones; it's not just the "We can't win" problem. It's the, "We can't win, and our batters might go home with something broken" problem.

a SOFTBALL moving at 40 mph isn't going to break any bones.

Where in that article does it say softball?

Oh, I'm sorry, I was discussing it with a friend and softball came up. My bad. Regardless, I severely doubt a 40 mph ball is going to cause injury beyond a bruise.

Please, prove me wrong. I was hit in the head with a fastball when I was a little older than these kids, and dang, all I got was a bump.

Please stop acting like pussies.

40mph will put a bruise at most on a kid. break bone LOL
to me it sounds like the team is a bunch of ringers. put together to dominate beginners. probably an advanced team trying to get extra practice playing in a lower level talent league.
