View Full Version : New Build Problem

Ok, so I just dished out about $900 for a new build and low and behold, with my luck, the system won't even power up. I hit the power button and nothing happens. I am running a ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA mobo and a AMD Quad-Core processor. After some fiddling (removing the sound card), I actually saw some life in it only to see it was a message saying I didn't give my video card power >.< which was true because it came loose in the fidgeting. So I turn it off reconnect the video card and now I get nothing, remove the video card again, get nothing.

So, do you think it's the power supply or the mobo? Despite no action on pressing the power button, I still get the lights and leds inside the computer to light. If it's the power supply, is it just not powerful enough (even though I picked out a decently high-end one), or just dysfunctional?

EDIT: Just had the powersupply switch in the off position for a few minutes, came back, turned it on, and it started right up (no video though), but after about 30 seconds it died. Maybe a new clue.

You are doing such easy mistakes...how can we be sure that until this point you did everything correctly?

Do everything step by step and read the manual. ASUS have LEDs on the Mobo indicating a problem if there is one.

yah, just go back and check and recheck everything.

On the motherboard you will see a 4 pin socket next to the cpu, make sure that is connected up because sometimes people miss that out.

I did get that 4 pin one too. I'm doing it right because there is some juice going to the computer, but it dies after like 20 seconds when I leave it off for a while.

The Asus Rampage Formula (http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=640&l4=0&model=2070&modelmenu=1) is for Intel CPUs is it not?

He's right, you bought a processor with a completely different socket type :gonk: Make me wonder how he fit it onto the board.

Oh my god.

New ranking:

sry but :fail:

People, if you don't know how to build a computer...leave it or ask your gf or something.

I'm also going to assume that you fried your Motherboard and Processor now...

It probably doesn't work because you video card isn't in right. Try putting it in backwards, and if it won't fit, just remove the onboard audio jacks.

The motherboard may have survived. The processor is definitely screwed.

How would it fit if they were different sockets?

When it "snapped" because he was forcing the processor "clamp" down, he probably thought that it was just snapping into place :gonk:. Or the processor is small enough to fit in the socket, even though it won' actually work...

Ugh not again...

AMD's chip is too large to fit into the intel socket, so OP's really confused... :eyesroll:
