View Full Version : ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER (fuck EA)

I'm sure most people know about the stupid liscensing restrictions with Spore (3 installs per disk), but this is just terrible:

jpfrostfox[/B] @ the Spore forums]I and many others here have got some serious questions about the forums, the lack of professionalism, and the need for information that is not being communicated to the users.

Are we not allowed to discuss SecuROM or DRM at all in the forums anymore?

What is the situation with the silent locking and deletion of topics going on? Shouldn't there be a standard?

Is there somewhere in particular this topic should be discussed?

Can we get moderating team leads that communicate with their users?

SecuROM as been discussed and discussed so much and it causes arguments in threads. If you want to talk about DRM SecuROM then please use another fansite forum. If there is any change you will be able to read it on the official Spore site.

Please do not continue to post theses thread or you account may be at risk of banning which in some cases would mean you would need to buy a new copy to play Spore.

Red text is an admin's edit. Links to the thread here.

That last part doesn't go with the song...
Row row fight the pow'r, fu-uck e-e a. It doesn't work.

You know who SecuROM really screws over?
Us Wine users. Yah, you guys may have to reinstall your OS and then get screwed, but we can't even use the game at all, even though the game itself would run in Wine (seriously).

Also, DRM is bullshit. etc. etc.

I nearly didn't buy Mass Effect because of it.

It's just so fucking irritating, it makes things a huge hassle for legit buyers and legit buyers only.

Get DaemonTOOLS to work in WINE (Problem solved)

Then you get a cd drive emulator and a Securom emulator all in one!

Spore

Not worth the trouble or the money imo.

Fuck the DRM though, it's getting ridiculous. I understand the need to protect a product, but it's not going to stop the pirates and in the end only hurts the legal consumer. Look at how many services are starting to offer DRM free music now that the public is becomming somewhat educated on why they cant put the same song from one service on more than one device.

PLOT TWIST

Global class action law suit launched against EA over Spore DRM
http://www.maxconsole.net/assets/gfx/dot_clear.gif
That's right, a global class action law suit is going to hit EA over the DRM used in Spore. The suit attacks the DRM used in Spore, citing that consumers are not told fully about it before purchase that it is a separate and stand-alone program which will download, install and operate on their computers. Even if the game is deleted, the SecuROM DRM remains a permanent fixture on the consumers hard drive until it is formatted. So this law suit asserts it is going to fight that EA purposely never told consumers that the Spore game disk never had this second hidden program (DRM) which is secretly installed on computers.

You can read the 36 page document at Courthousenews.com (http://www.courthousenews.com/2008/09/23/Spore.pdf)

Apparently EA didn't pay attention to the Sony fiasco.

Why the hell can't someone build some working Anti-Piracy software for once... Seriously, is it THAT damn hard?

Bodzilla
September 24th, 2008, 04:23 AM
yes it really is, you win people over with flashing lights, good deals and good service,

it's exactly why i bought the OJ box, even though it happened to cost $100, (store bought) and it's the sole reason why it's one of only 4 games i've ever owned legitly, and 2 that i've actually bought.
Because i will gladly support that kind of awesome deal, and the developers behind it.

FUCKING OWNED LOL

On a serious note, I only thought it prevented you from installing the game more than 3 times, and because of this joke bullshit faggotry I'm gonna be formatting soon and returning spore.

Why can't developers recognize that people are going to do whatever the fuck they want with their software, and start working around that?

Maybe they should all look at the example of Raven, who didn't put any kind of DRM (not even a CD key) at all on their Jedi Knight games. Tons of people downloaded them, or borrowed them, like me. And even more (like me) bought them after playing out of respect for the developer. DRM just isn't ever going to work, they need to get over it :\

Yep. The problem is that there always has to be a way around it for the legitimate customer.

I've only bought one game with SecuROM, and that's only because it was BioShock. Otherwise, I never have and never will purchase anything with SecuROM software on it. Why? Because the pirated versions work better than the retail versions. Why pay for a defective installer when I can get a working one for free?

Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-uulRB1OmY

E- Noticed what CN3809 said. Steam got anti-piracy right, and I fucking love them for that as well as everything else they do with their service. Like I've said in the past, Steam would be the only thing I'd ever want to become a monopoly, for these kinds of reasons.

I didn't have a problem with it, until the limited installs and online verification shit came into play. I refuse to shell out $50+ for a game I'll only be able to use a few times. I do not accept that shit. The only exception I'll make for online verification is Steam, because the service on a whole is done so well.

Nah, I actually waited long after the original SecuROM mess to make sure it worked when I bought it, so for that game, it was fine. I just wish I didn't have to wait several months to buy a game that should have been working from day one.

That works great as long as you are not going to be installing it on other computers, or upgrading the hardware in the computer you have already installed it on.

That's also assuming you don't format and reinstall, that counts as one of your installs too.

Sins of a Solar Empire has no DRM and NO requirement for disk.

And the game sold tons :D

No DRM is a recipe for success. Good modding community is one as well.
