Thats one cheap Card for its specs, I plan to get that :3
Nice deal, comes with crysis, which those who already have it can sell it, or those who don't want it can sell it.
What dyou guys think?
Also, If I where to get this, how long would it last me til I need to get a new one?
and Is the 1gb gx2 worth getting for about 80$ more?

Get tha GTX 260 for $214 after rebate, then when it drops in price later, get another GTX 260 and SLI.:D
The GTX 260 is better than the 9800gtx+ in almost every aspect.
256bit vs 448 Bit
512mb vs. 896mb
192 Stream Proc. Vs 128 Stream Proc.
I say it would be a good buy!
The GTx260 would be better also if you have a large monitor!
Or get the 9800gx2, but I heard it has some problems with microstuttering in games.

9800GX2 suffers from internal bandwidth bottlenecking, which is why it sometimes performs really well, or really bad. Beware.

So, Warsaw, would you agree with getting the GTx 260, then getting another one to SLI later? That would get you great performance eh!

Get this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102759) instead. Cheaper and better than the GTX 260.
If you're all :tinfoil: over Sapphire, get this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125237).
E: Abdurahman you are sounding very sarcastic, especially with all the !'s.

When I look at these, I am confused, because there are $500 cards that are the same series, with identical VRAM, and other stuff. How much better of a card from the same series (and by series, i mean like 8800, not 8000 series) be? Twice as good? Can somebody please inform me on this?

Can you please explain a little more...I'm not getting what you're saying.

Are you talking about something like 8800 GT vs 8800 GTX? Usually the higher numbered card in the series (8xxx, 9xxx, GTX 2xx) is better because it's just got beefier specs. The core clocks are generally higher in the higher numbered series, and they usually have more video memory (256mb vs 512mb vs 768mb, etc).

No, I'm talking about, for example, seeing that $200 GTX 260 that Abdurahman posted, then seeing another GTX 260 with slightly more VRAM for around double the price. I see this all the time. Is there some uber godly spec that I'm missing out on? Or is the difference between "the best" and "pretty damn close to the best" 200+ dollars?

Uh, what? GTX 260 and the GTX 260 Core 216 have the same ammount of varm. :raise:
The price is just because they love fucking with you.

If they have the same VRAM, then it just inflames my point/confusion. That's weird then, ok.

If it was my choice, I would pick the GTX 260, cause I love you guys :haw:

Yeah, but it's not, and the HD4850 is better.

Shit, I think it may be time for an upgrade.
Do I really need an excuse to spend hundreds of dollars to make my computer get a higher score on benchmarking tools?
I'm sure it will have some tiny marginal impact on my productivity in 3DS Max...
MUST HAVE.
... no, Rob, no! Resist the urge! You don't need it!

I got the 4850 512mb, and as soon as I can get a working motherboard ( :gonk: ) I'll post some benchmarks. But from what I've seen, it's an amazing card for its price.

4850 is superior to the 9800. Better to Crossfire that than use two 9800s in SLi.

I just realized, this is ANOTHER thread where we give the person advice on something better they can get for nearly the same price, and they just blow it off for no good reason. Thanks again.
Why do you people keep making these and doing this? Stop, seriously.

I think you should get the GTX 260. It's better than the 4850 and gets performance close to the 4870.

Got a link?
Abdurahman
September 30th, 2008, 02:15 PM
Yeah, here.
This is the CRYSIS test in that review http://www.techspot.com/review/109-geforce-gtx-260-280-versus-radeon-4850-4870/page4.html
Just click the rest of the links in that review if you want. Results are impressive! Espedially since you can get a GTX 260 for about $210 after MIR.
Warsaw
September 30th, 2008, 04:09 PM
And you can get two HD4850s for $140 each, and a single HD4850 comes really close to the GTX260.
Do the math.
The HD4850 is still better bang for the buck. Spend $210 and get a good system now, or spend $280 to future-proof it?

OSHIT- yeah Warsaw has a great point.
Buuuut from the looks of this review http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/9159-ati-hd4870-hd4850-crossfire-performance-review-10.html, one GTX 260 beats out 2 4850's in Crossfire, but that may be just a driver issue. You work it out, they are both great cards. I think Warsaw has a better argument though.

Only by 1 FPS, and on all max the two 4850s win.

There's no way they are using the right drivers. I'm a little skeptical about the last review too.

I don't believe that review. Every other review I have seen has shown that two 4870s in crossfire beat out the GTX280 in Crysis, hands down. Because of that, I am inclined to agree with Xet's assessment: they are likely not using the most up to date drivers, or something else is wrong with their system set-up.

The review is from early last month, we've had new driver sets since then on both sides.

Hey, how many years future proof you think two 4850s would be? Because 8800 has been pretty good for a while, so was the 6800, but other cards only stay good for like, a year, maybe two.
Warsaw

Two 4850s will get you a good three-year run, if not more. I've gotten about as much from my 7800GT, which is in dire need of replacing now.
Also, the GeForce 9 series is basically just a more refined GeForce 8 series. If I recall, the 9 uses more power than the 8 though, in order to achieve those higher speeds. even the number of stream processors is the same between the 8 and 9 counterparts. Thus, I lump the GeForce 8 and GeForce 9 into the same generation, because in effect they are. This is how you can explain the longevity of the GeForce 8 series. It's the GTX260 and 280 which are really the new nVidia generation (and yet is also a further refinement of the G92).

1How do asus cards do?
also even though I don't prefer ati, I may choose it P
Nvidia's 280 isnt more powerful as the 4870 I plan to get
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121276
:3 Are asus cards good?
Also, just wondering though, what would your memory clock processor do if its higher ghz than your cpu?
Also this would work with pcie 16x even though its for pcie 2.0 correct?
And how much of a drop would preformance be?
E:
Well, for the card, It says 3.6ghz but then it says (900mhz)
Which kinda confused me, now compared to a card that says 1800mhz is it better or worse?
E2:
Which is best in the following list?

That Palit one is quite awesome, free heatsink upgrade. Also, all the 4870 are very similar, so that 900mhz is x4.
