So my dad just got (couple days ago) a brand new '08 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon (4 door model) with EVERY POSSIBLE optional feature excluding the GPS system. We're going to be using it MAINLY for hunting (deers, moose, elk, chickens, etc) and hopefully a bit of off-roading. He got it for a ridiculously cheap price (approx $28,000 CAD) due to him working in the auto business, as well as getting a killer discount on it due to the fact that they've had it on their lot for quite awhile... Absolutely nothing wrong with it and it's killer fun to drive around, even though I've only driven it in the city so far it's been awesome.
Today we took the hard-top and front "Freedom Panels" (front half of the hard-top roof, except it's modular for each side of the vehicle) off as well as the doors and when croozing around with the satalite radio blasting. I think I'm in love with Jeeps now for some reason, it's just so... cool... Now I need to start saving up for a 2 door model for myself unfortunately, LOL.
Going hunting with it this weekend so we can put it through it's paces, will take some pics before it gets all dirty, then after maybe as well.
So, any Jeep lovers here?

I have a Cherokee. '96 and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Well maybe for a G35, Skyline, or a '59 Cadillac. Seeing as I won't be getting any of those I'm driving this thing till it dies.

ONLY IN A JEEP, BRO.
Had a 91 cherokee sport that I was turning into a desert pre-runner and did a lot of modifications to it. Engine tuning, cooling system mods, etc. Had that sucker running faster quarter miles than a 98 mustang svt, and topping out at about 140 mph on the freeway. Only thing I didn't work on was the suspension, since I was trying to find the exact kit i wanted, and a roll cage, as I hadn't yet taken welding and planned on installing it myself.
It was great for the city i lived in at the time since during the rainy season it would flood about a foot and a half deep. Was a blast taking it through the water at 45mph making huge roostertails.
Jeep is Awesome.
unfortunately my engine mods made it less than 14mpg freeway and i gave it away to a friend in desperate need, whos sister pulled a grand theft auto with it not once but twice, and totaled it into another car and she ran on foot. So yeah she's now a fugitive.

Advice on the welding part of your post snaf, it is surprisingly easy. It's also a very good thing to have under your belt. I am currently enrolled in a welding program at the school I go to. I'm still a little fuzzy on some areas, but what I can tell you from things i have read, heard and seen done, MIG welding is the DIY guys best friend. Stick/Arc (same thing) is difficult as all hell, I'm struggling along with it.
Instead of ordering a role cage, make your own. They have tons of plans, ideas, tips and tricks on off roading forums. The reason I say build your own is because if you ever need body work done on your jeep, truck or whatever its great to have a general idea of what needs to be done.
I can go on and on, but I'm sure you already knew most of this. I can send you some web adresses on good welding machines if you want.

Old school '90 Wrangler is where it's at, but the new ones are sick too. 'grats on the new truck!
(Do a quick search for a '90 Ford Bronco. That thing is the "manly car.")

I've always had a thing for Jeeps, but only the wranglers with the removable cab and doors. Safety hazard, yes, but there's just a sense of freedom you get with that, kinda like a motorcycle.
Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to get one anytime soon. :/

Already gave the jeep away, but yeah i took welding classes and have all my own gear, including a mig welder. I wouldn't really need any help with the cage design, as i studied spaceframe/bulkhead design and construction and have books on it. Thanks though :)

turbocharged/supercharged induction and a lift kit and probably new gear ratio should help.

it does jobs fine, just has a weak duty cycle, so jobs take longer than i'd want. on the plus side, though, i can use any 120v outlet instead of requiring a 240v heavy duty outlet.

Yea that's the one we have, and it came with both the soft-top and the hard-top. The dealership lost the soft-top in shipping or something though, so they need to send it to us when they find it, lol

I take it the duty cycle is around 20% ? 2 minutes welding 8 minute down time, ugh.

Old jeeps are great. The newer ones aren't quite as good. Something's up with them, the center of gravity is too high.

Pointless lifts are pointless. Make your Jeep fall over easier kthx. Honestly I don't see the point in huge ass lift kits, it's not like a stock height Jeep with skid plates can't tackle 90% of terrain obstacles.

We were warned about that... I didn't seem to notice it while going complete fuck-off wonkers with it off-roading today... I think I scared the pants off my dad a couple times, lol.
We took some pictures from my dads phone while we were out today... I'll post them when I find the little Mini-SD - SD converter card thingy....

I like jeeps, mostly the YJ and before, their simplicity and no frills approach seems to me to be part of the Jeep experience. I personally have a Jeep CJ10a (google it), but ive kept mine stock, so it isnt a mud runner, but many buy them to convert them into rock crawlers.
