Hey, I'm signed up to the Gamespot PC newsletter for the occasional information release. They released some new info on Halo 2 Vista, and they have the release date set for May 8th 2007.

I'm not sure how valid it is.

I've found gamespot to be quite reliable so far. If they have mistakes in their articles/reviews, they always remove them and state that in an "editor's note."

Here is some interesting Information:
One advantage of this system is that players can use the official map editor that ships with Halo 2 to easily create and share maps. The map editor is the major--and pretty much only--new feature to appear in the PC version, and it's based on the level editor that Bungie used to create the game. Using the map editor, you can create custom levels and even unique gameplay modes. Clowes showed us a huge soccer stadium that she built, with a giant metal ball that served as a "flag." The goal for each team is to "score" by moving the ball into the opposing goal, but the trick is that the ball is so large it can only be moved by being nudged by vehicles. Toss in weapons such as the rocket launcher, and you essentially have combat soccer. And the cool feature is that once you're done, players can automatically download your map when they connect to the server.

Anyways, the download on connect will be a nice feature to have! I hope they have a way to limit it though (for testing and such).

I don't think that the release date is true because Bungie didn't officially declare one yet. That means that any release date that's said on sites are just speculation until Bungie says the actual date.

Nothing is official until Microsoft/Hired Gun/Bungie says something about the release date.

True enough, but these big sites are posting info that they are getting from sources they themselves aren't even sure of it being 100% accurate. Why, just a few months ago they had a different release date and so on and so forth. They just go with what they have.

It was April 29th until a week ago, so I understand, but its as good of a release date as any imo.

Especially when Bungie isn't giving out any more info nowadays.
It's safe to say that it will be out in the next one to three months.

I'm rather pleased about the fact that maps download to your computer when you join the server. That's one of the reasons I don't download maps often. I would rather play in another server than close Halo, download a map, start up Halo again, and hope the server's still there. Chances are that I'll be out of mood after waiting for a download to finish.
EDIT: When they say the ball acts as a flag, and you have to push it into a zone to score, how's that work exactly? I'm not an expert on h2, but doesn't the play have to be holding the flag to score? So the flag in the middle must be neutral, and cannot be picked up...and there are score zones placed?

Some one over at Bungie's forums pointed this out, and I'll believe it when Bungie opens the Horse's mouth.

You'd think they'd do it on the 7th at least, which makes me really skeptical about this date...

It is official, because of the little thing that hired gun's leader mentioned at the end of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQycmO445Xc

Stores are required to have a release date, to pre-order and pre-sell an item. The thing is, they don't have to have one to make one of their own up.
lol, Masterz speaks the truth.
but any ways, this topic has been talked about before...
