I have a pit...the pit. This pit is bananas, b-a-n-a-n-a-s...sorry
Well Con has been providing me with some very accurate and sexy textures, so I've been slowly texturing the level. The clamps took the longest to replace >_> but now that they're done, I can get down to the easier stuff. It's slowly coming along...

The level is coming along nicely, keep up the good work. I remembered playing a build a while back....was so fucking bright from having no textures, it hurt my eyes and was hard to kill people :p. But it was still fun nonetheless.

You can get the air lifts to work? What about the sword. Despite being cheap as hell, that whole office area is built around the fact that it's where the sword belongs, and does its work best.

replace the sword with the fuel rod, it'l serve the same purpose, completely cheap heavy weapon. Then keep the rocket in the same spot.

Except the Fuel Rod is a ranged weapon, which is pretty different from an overpowered melee weapon.
All that lunging business isn't really necessary anyway, it could just be a fast 1 hit kill long ranged melee weapon and have the same effect.

Ummm like a flamethrower? I mean what other weapon would you put in the sword room besides the flamer. It fits the job perfectly.

Are you talking about how the overshield works or looks? Because I hope they change its looks, I sometimes find it hard to see if I'm going to pick up an overshield or a camo. But, that's just me, I'm not always carrying around a pistol. *gasp*

Well to answer all your questions:
Flamethrower will be in the sword room.
Hud will most likely be H3, I haven't decided yet.
overshield/camo will probably just be the same
There will be Halo 3 stationary turrets in the classic version. There will be a Halo 3 version of the map as well (most likely) and that may or may not include a detachable turret, CAD is going to work on a test later, we'll see how it goes.

Don't H3 the hud for the classic version. Also, take some time with the weapons layout - do a few different tests to see what works well for the symmetrically placed minor weapons and whatnot. All of the power weapons are obviously in their right places as it currently stands, however.

match the weapon placements with this semi equivalents to the halo 3 weapon placements. EX: shotguns go where the pistol shotguns from halo 3 go. Pistols for the battle rifles etc.

Apoc, if you put Shotguns where the Maulers go, what do you put where the Shotguns go? Go and place the H3 equivalents of all of the H1 weapons on The Pit in Forge to see what works as an acceptable layout. The only problems that I see are what to do with the SMGs Maulers and Magnums.

There have been (in varying degrees of polish) SMG and magnum since like 2005. Not sure why you'd need magnum tags though, as the H1 pistol could easily become a H3 magnum with just a little fiddling in the tags.

My bad. I meant the Mauler instead of the Magnum. The Magnum, as you stated, is very easy to modify into a H3 Magnum.

Custom animations would be nice at least, if your going to rip the weapon models. Or at least tweak the ripped animations so they point at the reticle, and seem to fit the FOV.

I agree, but I think the H3 BR has the better FoV in fullscreen than from Halo2. I think it would be interesting to see a ripped spiker, as well as a ripped ES with it's original anims.

The whole point of the project is to recreate as much of the level as physically possible. Visually. Weapons really aren't much of my concern. Which is why I could care less if the weapons are ripped, it will have no effect on game play, and with Choking's shader skills and CAD's effect skills it will have no visual difference either. Again my only concern is getting the scenery and BSP so look as exact as possible. No more discussion of ripped content.
Should have more progress either today or tomorrow.

Refraction amount. In halo 3, you can barely see a person with it. In halo 1, its very prominent.

The powerup orbs look incredible, but the battle rifle in the vid looks horrid to me. The skin looks really low res, but I suppose thats what happens when you take a texture from a new engine that doesn't require high res, and put it into an old engine with inferior shader capabilities.

I sincerely doubt the halo 3 tags will be open sourced. I believe peng was talking about open sourcing the bsp model and textures. But looking back through the thread I can't find where it was said, so maybe i'm imagining it.

This was a test to see if I could get a 3rd person camera without an external program. It worked :). You can probably expect 3rd person turrets in the halo 3 version of the mod.
Warning: this image is not posted for critical analysis, just to show you what's in store. I'm aware of the flaws and already know how to fix them.

Maybe he's a vehicle, dunno. H3MT thought of that, or to wait for Open Sauce. Doan and I supported just waiting for Open Sauce, but everyone else wanted to run eachother over with turrets :|

I don't know how you think im doing this, but it's not what you're thinking. The method used is a dummy masterchief biped with a third person seat. The game doesn't allow you to enter/exit the biped pressing the 'E' key, so I scripted the game to load the player into the seat when he presses 'q'. When you press 'q' again, you'll exit the seat. The reason the warthog reticule is there is because it uses the warthog user interface.

Point of this is to be an exact map replica. I want the bsp to be as close as possible. It's a "because I can" sort of thing...or a pride booster :p. Pelican's will be there, transport hogs, mountains, flying birds. I'd like to have this done by christmas, but realistically we're lookin at February.

just use like a "step teleporter" that makes it looks like u get thrown into the air, then u end up reletively where you would in the air in halo3 and can "move" through the air still from the top. It shouldn't lag, but there'd be issues with multiple players possibly.. it'll also look a lil strange, but relatively no lag... i dont think i never really tried it before, just a thought i always had after I was fukin around in spark edit long long ago (hpc) and linked teleporters through the air, fun stuff.
Otherwise you can use the "force" method too but that'l be laggy anyway.
Or ask jahrain how he did his cronopolis lifts, they were amazing, but they too lagged and were only in one of the betas. These are small lifts tho so that method could work with less problems.
ot: where the hell has jahrain been anyway... forgot about that dude, he like left completely... :confused2:

If we can't come up with a plan to pull them off using OS, then it'll probably just be teleporters. But its up to peng.
EDIT: There's a few things in the halo 1 engine we can use to simulate the effect, it's just a matter of finding a way to implement them. (No, I'm not talking about the damage_effect method.)

Without lunge, it could work just fine but with CE's crappy netcode it would be far from the real deal, and almost completely ineffective. A shotgun would work well in the same place, but that just wouldn't be as cool. I don't know, but whatever. I'm very interested in this project.

Seeing as how how they are making the turret 3p, I wouldn't see why they wouldn't make the Flamethrower 3p. Still, who knows?

I'd say we're doing pretty damn good for a bunch of 13-16 year olds and one 35 year old who haven't been doing this for long.
Comparing people doesn't make anybody feel good. It just builds egos and makes others less likely to create content. You think H3MT sucks, well then don't play the maps. :) Not like we care who does and doesn't. We're taking our sweet time to bring cool stuff to the community. Tearing people down is NOT going to help the CE community grow at all.

This will be released before the halo 3 one, that's gunna take a while >_>.
As of right now the BSP model is 100% done. A few things need to be uv'd and only a few textures remain. Once everything is uv'd it's on to the skybox model, then scenery.

Didn't really use the spiker much to be honest, but I got a few kills with it. Everything will be thoroughly tested before release, like the brute shot, it was so powerful in this build.

What hurts your eyes exactly? The concrete that doesn't shine unrealistically? The darkness? I refuse to add specular to the concrete shaders simply because ce's rendering engine will make it look like shit, concrete wouldn't shine in this environment anyway. The darkness will be fixed once final lightmaps are ran.
PS: The floor is going to be redone.

It was on in those pictures. Think of lightmaps as the specular mask for the shaders, if it's dark, its less shiny. That's why it looks like that currently.

My graphics were set to high in all those pictures. Remember, lightmaps have a rather significant effect on things. Anyway I'm starting work on the skybox today. My hope of having this done by christmas seems to be a bit of a stretch but look forward to playing the CLASSIC version around January.

The bruteshot is currently way overpowered, but it will be fixed. I did enjoy killing Masterz with it though :p.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of gameplay does a single mauler add compared to a shotgun? I mean, it can be used as it is in Halo3, but Halo1's melee is a bit funky in comparison. Not only that, but there really isn't a need for it with the flamethrower and shotty both in the map IMO. Still, some variety would be nice I guess?

So why would you use a close range blade when you can simply blast them with the shotgun?

Well, you've got a point but a combo weapon like this could replace 3 less important weapons.

well still you dont really need the sword.
Plus if you do, then dont put it on a weapon that has close range

Why not take away lunge? Sure, it's kinda the energy swords calling card, but still. Why not just make the secondary melee twice as strong as the normal melee, without lunge.

Is there any way to make the melee animation fling you forward and then return you to the original position?

If I recall correctly, we are populating the map with a flamethrower in place of the sword. About the shotgun with blades, no. It's not going to happen, so don't discuss it.

Gearbox's flamethrower is not all that useful outside of highly specific situations, are you guys going to be balance tweaking this flamer any?

It all depends on how the future beta tests go and what we decide needs to be tweaked to make gameplay better.
