Hi all, this is my 1st proper attempt on a halo weapon, (which is being taken seriously) it is a sniper rifle. It's going to be a highly detailed concept i think, it looks better that way

I dont think the diamons on the screws are needed, also next time clay render. and theres not much to really crit until you get about 50% done

nick3d
October 26th, 2008, 09:36 PM
they arent diamond they are special screws :P
and how do you do a clay render on maya?
this is the 1st decent render iv actually done, not that keen on rendering usually a print screen or something

While it's fun to make detailed models, if you're going to put them into Halo it's entirely unnecessary. You're making details that won't ever be seen. The only purpose high detail models have are to make normal maps which, halo, does not support. So, yeah high detailed models may look nice but they are essentially useless.

Looks nice. Try finishing a bit more before showing it off. Try a little bit of variation on the tops too.

Like I said on MSN Nick. TO boxy. Looks okay though.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g268/martynball/nickfix.jpg

If you try and smooth that like I did it will not work and there will be smoothing errors.
They don't look right.

Needs a face making over the hole.

Boxy curve, needs making like illustrated on picture.

What is that part?

Keep working on it Nick. :)

No it doesnt, that is where i left it for the time being. Because it needed be extruded to the left because there is a metal thingy there

(original post \/)

About the back of it, i never new it would have to be thinner at the bottom, not enough references to tell, and catn find any decent references

Well this is the part which is circled in green,

Halo 3 isnt on PC. To take picture in Halo 3 nick you go in theatre, press Y to get the free roam camera. Then press B to get the little menu up down the bottom right and press the camera icon.

Then go to bungie.net and link your gamertag to your account and you screenshots will be in your service record.

Also:

Please get rid of that, it looks horrible.

I beg to differ, it is not aesthetically pleasing at all. It looks incredibly boxy (and not in terms of being made of boxes) You seem to have random extrusions rather than smooth stamped material. And did you like chamfer every edge of the gun? Make it smoother and rounder.

I havent chamfered anywhere, i did it all free hand, the parts where they look chamfered anyway, because i had forgotten about the chamfer tool

Looks awesome.

A little jagged around the edges, but for the early stages it's in it looks alright. Not like anyone's gonna notice the butt of the gun while they're pwning nubs with the front end of it though, amirite?

What do you mean by that?
He meant that the front end of a sniper is the business end, not the butt.

The front goes bang.

Fyi.
