View Full Version : Halo 2 graphics fucked up on 360

Feeling old school, and somewhat keen to try out that Tombstone map, I put Halo 2 in my 360 today. I'd done this before, to check out the rumors that Halo 2 looked significantly better on a 360 than an Xbox (I didn't notice any difference), and it played just fine then. Now however, I wanted to play some matchmaking. So I updated my Halo 2, and also Live apparently, downloaded all 4 map packs (which took forever), and I'm finally ready to play. Only thing is, I get in there and the graphics are all squished and fuzzy... everything is too skinny and low res (even for Halo 2). It almost looks like the game is trying to display a widescreen resolution, but I'm not using a widescreen display (only a 1280 x 1024 LCD monitor). I tried playing Campaign as well, only to discover some other graphical oddities, like missing black bars in the cutscenes. Has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone have a solution?

If you're playing in widescreen, the black bars should disappear.

Not widescreen, that's the problem.

Well you need to make sure cuz its showing the symptoms of widescreen play.

Isn't your current resolution 5:4, not 4:3?

Halo 2 can only be played on a lower resolution like 640x480 I believe. If not maybe a little higher. I had this problem only with Halo 2.
Also, make sure your resolution is set to normal aspect ratio.

I dont really care about your resolution. It'll get stretched regardless. I'm talking about the settings on your 360. Is it set to widescreen or not? If so, then your black bars will dissappear.

The fact that you're displaying things in a 5:4 ratio instead of a 4:3 will squish and destory whatever is being rasterized.

I never said it was 4:3 <_<

Rep to the only helpful post in this thread, I'll try lowering the 360's resolution. I didn't have this problem before signing onto Xbox live and updating Halo 2 though, so I doubt that's what it is.

See above, never had this problem before updating.

Also, of course it's set to fucking standard. Why would I set it to widescreen?
