If it's from Doom3 we'll have to remove it. The SPV1 textures mainly came from JeanLuc's Halo PC reskin, which we thought was all custom up until a day or 2 before release.

I think that the height is appropriate for the kind of equipment it is. After all, this is a communications array, and for something of that nature to work effectively it's going to need to be able to get the sigal up into the atmosphere. I say keep the height. It looks good and gives it the scale that makes it an objective type of thing. If it were small, what would possibly dictate it as an objective apart from typical scenery? What makes you walk past all the others but not this one?
It looks substantial, and it should. Keep it this big, hell, if not make it bigger!

The general developer populous uses gimmicks to sell their games. They figure the gimmicks will cause people to be blinded by the sheer amount of crap left in the game that is...well just crap. It allows them to come up with new ideas quick, implement them quick, and get credit for being "first". First poster developers. Just as annoying as their forum cousins.

Also, if I post a picture of possible flood-brute geometry, will you guys promise to :
A) Not bitch at me if they don't end up making it in
B) Not bitch at me for reusing 99% of the original brute geometry and texturing (necessary if they're going to make it in at all, as tagslots are really cramped on some levels)
C) Understand that if I made drastic changes to the model that it would get more and more likely that they'd need an entirley new skin (which, considering how busy/away dano is, would also jeopardize their inclusion)

I'm not at all happy with this - if I didn't have to deal with keeping it compatible with the original skin I would put far more into it.
My main question is : Given that these would just be a novelty and wouldn't add much to gameplay, and given that I can't do much with the model if I keep the old skin, is this worth trying to get ingame (which may not even be possible) or should we just drop it here? Any additions or changes that could be made to make this less of a cheap halomaps kid edit would be much appreciated.

I think that's worth keeping. The work's been done on it, it looks good. I like that a lot. Would the animations for this be that same as for the brute? And about how long would it take to experiment with until you are happy with it (approximately)?
It could add variation to things like the Library, as it's another enemy and relieves some monotony of seeing the same thing over again. I like the idea, it looks good and were it to go in-game, it would be a nice touch, so that's a yes from me.
But also; tagspace. If this thing takes up valuable tagspace (and time taken to work on it) that would be better used elsewhere, I'd leave it... Another tremendous statement from Cpt. Obvious :downs:.

Even I'm not cheap enough to use the default brute anims. They would be using a custom set based on a modified version of the flood human animations.
Regarding what you said about the Library : that was my main feeling as well. They probably wouldn't fit into any other level, but for that one time I thought to might be neat.

That Brute flood looks pretty nice. If you could make it less furry, that'd be great, although it's fine if you can't fix it. Is it possible to add a "flood-head" to it? Like Elite combat forms (http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20050727/flood.jpg) have in their chests, Human combat forms have in their chests (http://www.toybender.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/halo3wave3003large.jpg) or necks (http://www.lowpings.net/images/Gaming-News/floodhuman.jpg), and Brute combat forms (http://images.wikia.com/halo/images/8/86/Flood_Combat_Form_%28Brute%29.jpg) have in their chests?
Will the Brute flood behave any differently than other flood, or have any special features to them (like Elite forms have shields)?

The head looks fugly, but then again it's the flood and it's covered in fur. I agree with a lot that Arteen said. Will this have anything different to offer compared to an Elite or human combat form? I mean, would it retain it's power armor or jsut have more health?
Looks generally well done though. The tentacles and shit poking out of it is sick nasty.

They may have shields, but they're otherwise a gimmick. Just a way of mixing up the bore of flood combat. I may make small edits to the skin, which could then include the "flood head" and remove the fur, but I'm not so confident in my abilities to that end :p. The main concern is being able to use the original base textures.

The flood head of the brute grew out of the throat/mouth. That might be rather difficult to model. Just contort the head back a little bit and make it fumble and add the flood head in the chest.

My suggestion was to have the brute flood an entirely different class of flood. Like somehow the infection causes a permanent berserk mode, where they're running on all 4's. The player would have to wait till the opportune moment to kill him, I.E. when they try to jump at him. They would attack in groups of 4's so that would demand the players immediate attention. I thought it would dynamic twist to gameplay.

Perhaps the flood aren't really compatible with brutes. They can infect them but the host won't last for more than a minute or two.

Heres a thought, if you want to use brute flood you could make them carriers, since all combat forms eventually become carriers anyways. It would need its own model/anims/textures, but could use mostly the same stuff you posted. The model would need to be expanded, maybe make the head flopping off on the side, but it would be interesting to fight.
in some levels they could replace the original carriers, and it might add a twist to gameplay to make them faster than normal carriers or something. Just speculation of course.

In halo 3?
Also,
The Flood go through 4 distinct developmental changes.
1. Feral (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Feral_Stage) stage is the lowest form: communicating via pheromones, and have the natural instinct to harvest enough calcium to establish a viable Gravemind. (Seen in Halo: Combat Evolved (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Halo:_Combat_Evolved))
2. Coordinated (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Coordinated_Stage) stage is when the Flood become truly dangerous; they now take orders from the Gravemind that was created in the first stage. (Seen in Halo 2 (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Halo_2))
3. Interstellar (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Interstellar_Stage) stage allows the Flood to take control of most technology and spread throughout the galaxy to infect more hosts. (Seen in Halo 3 (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Halo_3))
4. Intergalactic (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Intergalactic_Stage) stage[14] (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Flood#cite_note-13) the last known stage the Flood enters, theoretically, in which it utilizes all captured technology to depart to uninfected galaxies to further replicate. It is assumed that the Flood that had arrived in the Milky Way had descended from Intergalactic level Flood. (Seen in the Forerunner-Flood War (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Forerunner-Flood_War)).
You could play it off by saying, they weren't evolved enough to take over the brutes bodies yet.

flood brutes add authenticity to the mod, pretty wierd that there are healthy brutes but not flood brutes when they get shat over in a flood level.
makes it more believable of a universe and clears up a possible question in the gamers mind "Why are there no flood brutes when I just saw 5 get raped by some infection flood ?, hmm wtf must be a dev error"
leave them in, look pretty anyways.
I don't remember seeing flood Brutes in Halo 2, nor did I see bodies of "floodified" brutes. Do brutes even have flood forms in Halo 3? Hell, they got all those nasty pure forms that you don't need brute forms.

The flood brutes were, ironically, the weakest ones. They fell apart like cheese when meleed.

Do they all still collapse ingloriously after 1 pistol shot to the back?

I hope so. Making it that way throws a wrench into the idea of always taking a vehicle. In a vehicle (on harder difficulties) a hunter can kill you with ease (even a tank has to deal with 2 targets). On foot, with a pistol, hunters can easily be dispatched. This makes you think about the dangers of using a vehicle.

This is irrelevant.
I always wondered why they went down in one hit. In Halo 2 they took a few good hits to the orange before going down. I haven't played much of Halo 3's campaign so I can't say I've met them yet.

The original pistol bullets explode on impact (according to the book). Halo 2 weapons (except the Rocket Launcher and Fuel Rod ofcourse) don't explode on impact.
Shoot a sniper into an anthill and you get several dead ants. Drop a small grenade in a similar hill, and you get a dead colony.

Well, other than team members who have beta builds, the list is rather small.
The best way to take down one of our hunters is to stick the orange spot with a grenade. Guarantees a kill no matter what rank they are.

That works on the levels with both vehicles and Hunters, but once I discovered the one shot pistol kills on Hunters, they became laughably pathetic on Silent Cartographer. Especially when Cortana tells you you need heavy weapons to bring them down :\
(not to mention if you want to be a complete dick, Hunter shields don't hold a candle to the plasma rifle melee attack)

So make "minor" Hunters (same health as original hunters) appear in vehicle levels, and "major" hunters (more health/sheilds) appear in non-vehicle levels.

The marines have new shaders and so do the pelicans.
Of course parts of the levels look dark, you don't think we'd run propper lightmaps when there are still continuous revisions to the bsps do you?
The flashlight in the mod is unlimited though however.

One minor thing; in the screenshot with the just-fired charge-shot, it looks like chief's hand is clipping halfway through the plasma pistol's grip. Am I seeing something else or is it really clipping that much?
And more importantly, is it noticeable ingame?

Thats probably because lag animates with a different rig than the one that is used in game.

I played H3 campaign for the first time today and went up against some hunters (heroic). To stop people fucking with the orange, they seemed to have shrunk it's size/put more armour overlapping it so that you can't really see it from directly behind. They also made them turn around much quicker (smashing your face into the ground as soon as they did if you were close enough)and stop their charges quicker.
If you guys could implement stuff like that into the higher level hunters, that'd be awesome. :awesome:

The brute is firing at him with the carbine. AI always shoot at the center of their target, even if the unit they are targeting is in a vehicle.

Personally, I think that massive electricity shot following the charge looks like ass; not because of the sprites, but because it's too cluttered and fancy. The actual projectile is awesome, though.
Forerunner textures are also ugly, but I could easily fap to everything else. But then again, what are my criticisms worth :eyesroll:
