So, as some of you may know, I have this awesome countertop (http://desk.oasis-games.com/). Well, I'm looking to update some of my peripherals: my keyboards are ancient budget pieces of crap, and the mice are worse (a GE optical mouse, and the Compaq mouse [the black one on the left] is a brand new ball mouse!). And then there's the fact that they look horrible next to each other.
So, naturally, as I did with the monitors, I'm looking to get a new pair of keyboard/mice combos for them.
The decision to made is whether I should cash out on a pair of wireless sets (such as this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126180) still fairly cheap Logitech set) or to go budget and get the typical $13 "OEM" wired set.
Last time I actually tried wireless peripherals was over four years ago (and without much luck), but times have changed, and I'd like to clean up my workspace.
So, guys, what should I do?

logitech wireless sets work pretty nice, and are very inexpensive.

Personally, I'd go with wireless, much less of a hassle due to not having wires, and you have more of a limit to how far you can go.

Wireless with some rechargeable batteries.

There's a lot of inexpensive wireless mice out there. Just find one at your price point and buy.

Wired.
No latency and no constant need for batteries.

I personally prefer wired, has a faster respond time and doesnt cause or get affected by interference.

I recently upgraded my Mouse + Keyboard as well!

Wireless. I don't know what the fuck you're talking about, Bod, I've used wireless for years now, and I've never noticed any sort of lag. Any sensible receiver converts the wireless signal directly (and immediately) into the exact same signal you'd get with a wired mouse. The limit here is the speed of light, same as it is on the wire, and the overhead of converting the signal from wireless format to wired format is insignificant compared to the time it takes your computer to context switch to grab the mouse's input. You'd have to be using your mouse from orbit in order to be able to notice the time it takes for the signal to travel the distance. FFS.
The only problem besides price is the batteries, but just get some rechargeables and a charger and you're set.

What godly mouse are you using Rob, Logitech's MX700? :raise:

If you are gaming then spend $50ish on whatever type of mouse you want. I've always stuck with Logitech's gaming mice, although I bought my friend a Razer mouse and he really likes it.
Get something with at least 1800 - 2000 DPI. Very accurate, etc. Make sure to set it up properly - faster doesn't necessarily mean more accurate.
Some wireless mice have issues with Cordless phones (my mom's bluetooth Mighty Mouse and her Logitech MX Revolution would flip out when she was on the phone), so take that into account. A good wireless mouse should be fine for gaming, but cheaper ones might have some problems.
Keyboard wise, I think it really depends on where you are placing it. If you need to have it in a spot where it will be moved around a lot (like in one of those keyboard holder things for desks that roll in and out) then you'll probably be better off with a wireless keyboard. If it is going to be stationary then go with a wired keyboard.
Personally, I use a Logitech G5 mouse and a G15 keyboard and they have both been very good for me.

I'm not a gamer, and rather am looking for something cheap to make my two desktops uniform and to replace some highly outdated OEM keyboards/mice.

Only reason you shouldn't go wireless is if you dont want to keep replacing batteries. Pop in some energizer lithium and it'll be a couple of months before you need to replace them.

Or go wired, never worry about replacing batteries, and spend a whole minute plugging it in.
Tough decision :raise: not

worry about batteries every couple of months, or constantly have a wire on your desk, getting caught on things, adding clutter, restricting your motion.
Tough decision.

You have too much junk on your desk if the mouse wire is getting caught. I have a ton of junk, and my wire doesn't get caught.

If I ever got a wireless mouse i'd get one that could either be plugged in to act as a wired mouse as it charged, or one with a docking station. Unless you're minimalist kind of guy or an extreme mess so you have no room, I don't see the point in a wireless mouse.

Wired. Sooo much more reliable. (at least within my experience)

i always got mouse lag man :/ and a heap of other problems such as it being too sensitive when moved slowly and not sensitive enough when moved quickly but i think that was part of the brands fault. also massive problems with interferance and the mouse flipping out and doing 10 000 spins and looking straight up in the air.
was just a nightmare.
but seriously wireless was nothing but a huge fuckign headache for me and after a week of doing it i went straight to the G9

I have a Logitech LX8 wireless mouse, and it seems to work fine. I do have a wired keyboard, but that's just because I liked the keyboard and I needed a wired one to install my OS.

I have a Logitech laser mouse (idk what model), and it tracks perfectly accurately on any matte surface. I talked to some friends about it and apparently I was being kind of goofy with the speed of light argument, because the bandwidth of the wireless transmission is much lower than the bandwidth of the wire, and the conversion is more expensive than I had realized.
Even so, the lag cannot be more than a couple of milliseconds unless you have a god-awful transmitter, and human reaction time is measured in tens to hundreds of milliseconds. There is no conceivable way that you could actually notice the difference between a wired mouse and a decent wireless mouse.
And they're barely more expensive, and the batteries really aren't such a big deal, and it's just way more convenient for your input device not to be tethered.
Why not use a trackball? It's cheaper and does exactly the same thing. Who cares about convenience? /sarcasm
Come on. This is the dawn of the wireless era. Get with the times, guys.

It's about precision.

I'm with the wired crowd for these reasons, also I don't find wires hindering.

wtf is wrong with you guys, I've already established that the latency cannot possibly be detected by a human being and the batteries only need changing every couple of months, which while an inconvenience is less than the sum total of the tiny inconvenience of having a wire over those two months.
I suppose you guys refuse to use bluetooth headsets and cordless phones, too. srsly, wtf.

Looks like we're leaning wired.
Keep in mind, I'm not a gamer, I don't do any precision work with a mouse (and when I do, I just use my tablet), and this entire set up is meant for uniformity and to replace old crap.

Some people are just more sensitive to the lag than you are slowbro ;)
For what bacon does, wireless will be fine.
