So, as it turns out, it's time for my first PC upgrade in about...four years.
You can check my current specs if you want:

Biostar K8NHA-M Motherboard
Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb AGP 8x
Athlon XP 3400+ processor
Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic
450 Watt Power Supply

So anyways, since my video card is burning out after 4 years of heavy usage, I'm sick of AGP, and I'm in college for CGI, I think I need an improvement.

Here's what I'm considering purchasing within the next couple of days (That video card is failing fast):

BFG GeForce 8800GT 512mb Overclocked $140
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ $70
ASUS M2A-VM AM2 Motherboard $75
BFG 550 Watt ATX Power Supply $85
undecided RAM $30-50

Anything else I absolutely need here? I'm on something of a budget, and I have to pay all this money back.

Ditch the 8800GT and get this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102775
for only $20 extra.
Good setup. decent upgrade for the price you're paying.

You can save $20 on that 8800GT by getting a 9800gt. Here's the list of things you should get.

Prices are from newegg.

Geforce 9800gt 119.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127381

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ 79.99 (It has twice the L2 Cache!) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103771

Biostar Tforce TF720 AM2+/AM2 Motherboard 69.99 (I would recommend this board to anyone, it has awesome overclocking options, and is rock stable! Just ask ExAm. He has the same motherboard. It even supports quad core, so you can upgrade in the future. And It's better to buy an Nvidia motherboard for your nvidia card.) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138117&Tpk=tf720

OCZ StealthXStream 600 Watt PSU 79.99 with $25 MIR (A very good PSU, better and cheaper than that BFG, and built for gamers) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341010

Super Talent 2x1 GB DDR2-800 27.99. No question about it, get these sticks. One of the best in the business. Overclocks amazingly, and rock stable, because of the samsung memory chips they use. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820609027

And there you have it! You spent less money, and you managed to get better performance! Hoorah!

Total is Around $350, add tax (If you live in california, new jersey, or tenessee) And shipping, and it might reach $375-$385.
