The e-mail pitch is familiar to most people by now: a long-lost relative or desperate government official in a war-torn country needs to shuffle some funds around, say $10 million or $20 million, and if you could just help them out for a bit, you get to keep 10 (or 20 or 30) percent for your trouble.
All you need to do is send X-amount of dollars to pay some fees and all that cash will suddenly land in your checking account, putting you on Easy Street. By the way, please send the funds though an untraceable wire service.

Janella Spears doesn’t think she’s a sucker or an easy mark.
Besides her work as a nursing administrator, Spears – no relation to the well-known pop star – also teaches CPR and is a reverend who has married many couples. She also communicates with lightning-fast sign language with her hearing-impaired husband.
So how did this otherwise lucid, intelligent woman end up sending nearly half a million dollars to a bunch of con artists running what has to be one of the best-known Internet scams in the world?

She wiped out her husband’s retirement account, mortgaged the house and took a lien out on the family car. Both were already paid for.
For more than two years, Spears sent tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars. Everyone she knew, including law enforcement officials, her family and bank officials, told her to stop, that it was all a scam. She persisted.

That really sucks for the husband, to have both a wife dumb enough to do that, and to have lost all that...

When Spears began to doubt the scam, she got letters from the President of Nigeria, FBI Director Mueller, and President Bush. Terrorists could get the money if she did not help, Bush’s letter said. Spears continued to send funds. All the letters were fake, of course.

9-11 9-11 9-11 God bless America.

Honestly, if the money of one person could help where the money of the entire United States Government couldn't... it's a scam.

But I know why she did it too... some people have gambling addictions... I'd assume it'd be along those lines.

If I get married, I'm keeping my own account, separate from my wife's, no matter who she is.

I know a ton of married couples that keep separate bank accounts. Seriously, if I get married I'll have separate accounts because honestly, the money I earn is MY money. If my wife is working and earning money than it's HER money, if there needs to be loans to each other for certain reasonable things I'm cool with that. But under no circumstances will anyone other than me have access to my bank account.

Women can't be trusted with money.

Eh, I'd rather say that gullible people shouldn't be trusted with money.

This is a prime example of why people are skeptic and stoic nowadays.

Sadly, I was only half joking. My mom doesn't work, but she still buys a bunch of useless shit with my dad's money. On top of that, she bitches whenever he wants to buy something for himself. Obviously I know most women aren't like that, but my mom is. :|

My parents have been together for nearly 30 years and they've never had any problems with using each others money, Trust and love goes a long way, but it's just a dam shame that few people get to be raised in a household like mine.

i wouldnt have any hesitations sharing money with people, because if you asked for it i'd give you the shirt off my back.

And they wonder why there's domestic violence.........

Because wives use too many periods in an ellipsis after a sentence?

Yeah this is pretty much bullshit. A letter from George Bush? Why would he even send one :I

if bod were to spread his seed the world would be hell

None of the women I know are irresponsible with money, and I'm hoping that continues for a long, long time.

In my opinion, if you can trust your wife/husband enough to use your money, then go for it, not everybody is selfish enough to do bad things with money.

question: how many periods are there in an ellipsis?
answer: zero. an ellipsis is an entirely different punctuation mark. that's one of the many insignificant errors that annoys the hell out of me.
