Yeah, so I'm fed up with how after almost 3 years of being on the market, vista is still giving me shit about the 8800GTX I bought i have in my rig. Every driver update just makes it worse and worse, and I don't really want to go back to XP. So I was thinking of selling it and downgrading to a 7900, seeing as halo is the only game I play or am interested in for the PC, and I should get fine FPS with a 7900, even if I am pushing the game to the limit. I spent 600$ on the 880GTX last summer, and it has 765mb of ram on it. What would be a good price to sell it for, and is anyone on the forum interested in purchasing it?

With the 280 already out? Not much. Just hold on to it and save up for the 280's successor.

I'd buy it if it was a good price, it's better than my 7950gt. Hell I'd trade you.

I'm sure you could find some people on Ebay who would pay 350+ for it. Also, you're better off getting a low end card from the 9-series, not an even older 7-series card.
Or just get the HD 4830 for $120.

Yeah remember that Halo acts as it should be if run by Radeon cards :)

They are going for 100+ on Ebay, that's pretty cheap.

My radeon card, the 9200 sucked ass. It couldn't even render the AC effect.

Well, that card was a shitty old one, the new Radeons are great.

Neither can my GeForce 8800GT. Trust me, it's not inherent to Radeon.

He'd still break even going to the HD4830 or 4850 at least.

No it's a solid color MC, not even the incorrect ones you see on the 8800gt.

That thing wasn't meant to play games. Try the 9500, 9700, and 9800 series and you'll be set. Better yet, buy an HD 3850 AGP card. Or since you're using AGP, get the best AGP card you can. I don't know which one that could be but your system looks pretty decent. It't the motherboard that's holding you back.

Yea, the 9200 gave me the solid color-what-ever-the-fuck-I-was-looking at effect too.
I'd buy it from ya masters if I had the cash. Hit me up in PM if you want to keep discussing the matter.

Does anyone have the HD 4830? Before I buy any card or sell mine, I want to be sure I will be able to run halo properly and Vista as well. My 8800 is always crashing me while i'm playing, failing while I play, and forcing me to close the program, or it just makes my computer bsod, mostly overnight or when i'm out for long periods of time.
I'm looking for more stability than I am usability.
Kalub, I'll definatly sell you the card soon as I have a replacment. 340$ sound good?

I don't think anyone here will have a 4830 yet as they are new, but since it's basically a cut down 4850 it would be good to see what 4850 owners say.
Also, you're asking way too much for that seeing the current ebay prices Kalub corrected me on, plus the fact that the card may faulty and causing all your troubles... :saddowns:

Haha, yeah. I wonder why you didn't complain back then. Either way, the card still wouldn't run Halo. If you're saying that you have a newer card please update your Forum PC specs.

I would use the money to get a 9800 GT Akimbo. That is, if you can't find an 8800 GT Akimbo, which is much cheaper for the same thing (around the selling price on an 8800 GTX if I recall).
Or, if you wanted, you could sell the 8800GTX and give me the money, then I'll send you my old 7950 GX2.

You want to see if we'd trade our 4850 for a 8800GTX?

No, although that would be a good trade performance-wise. Masters wants to know if Halo will work right, as well as Vista.

Good, because nobody in their right mind who has a 4850 would make that trade.
To answer Masters, yes, both Halo and Vista work beautifully with the 4850, I'd recommend it.

Weird. I have an 8800GT and Vista, and the whole system seems to work beautifully for me. :/ Halo included.

Since GTX 260's go for less than $300 these days, getting $340 for the 8800GTX.. will be hard. Then again, video card prices are fucking ridiculous, I just saw a 8800 Ultra going for $1,100... disgusting...

How the FUCK did you manage that? Does it even let you overclock it that far? Also I think you mean the Memory Clock is 3.6Ghz, not the core, but 3.6Ghz is still fucking crazy for the Memory Clock.

Well, I decided it would ultimatly be cheaper to just get a third hard drive, and put XP on it. So I got a terabyte of internal storage now, with my shiney new 500 gig HDD. I took an old XP install disk that came with a dell I got in 2001, but apparently the old key won't work. So now I have to find a way to either get it to work or get xp though other means, since it's not even sold in stores anyway. FU windows.

lol Dell keys. Have you tried calling the number it gives you and say you're reinstalling because of a hardware failure?
