So guys it's here, the NXE update.

Discuss.

Had it since last week. It was definitely an improvement in more or less every area. Can't complain. Only wish avatars were more customizable. Can't seem to find hair similar to mine :P nor facial hair.

Fucking update removes all the awesomeness of the Bungie Day theme. Fuck you and your improving-my-online-experience update, MS. When I turn on my console, I don't care about how it functions, I just wanna see a soffish!!!![/lolrant]

Is there a way to go back to the old dashboard layout? I can't see myself getting used to this.

Also, has this update slowed anybody elses console? Just messing about with menus I could feel the delay.

There aren't any slowdowns on mine. Everything is peachy. I don't like how it screws up a lot of the themes but I do, however, like the new guide button better. Menus are a lot more cleaner too.

Your monitor sucks. Make it auto adjust (if it even can)

It's alright on my 24" that doesn't have internal scaling, but 1920x1200 could have been thrown in this update tbh

The only slowdowns I get are when it's trying to fetch data off the net. That said, it also happened on the old dashboard. I like the update. It allows the dashboard to scale indefinitely. I dont like the fact that it just locked up on me and I had to physically get up and turn off my console.

But the proportions look fine already. IMO it looks like a downscaled 1080p.

I like it so far. The interface seems a lot less clunky and cumbersome than the old dashboard.

Avatars are such a horrible rip-off of Miis. %-)

Anyone wanna confirm this to see if its a bug that im not the only one getting? Like if I look at someone's party.. say for example I just looked at who all was in rentafence's party.. the moment I press B to go back, my xbox freezes. Reproduced this 10 times now. Seems I cant look at parties then go back :/

Is there any way to choose which "channel" it defaults to when you turn on your console (such as My Xbox or Friends), or were these morons too fucking stupid to include something as basic as that?

And 1080x1050 is fine. Of course the top and bottom of the screen is going to be slightly letterboxed. Everything is 16:9. They'd have to update absolutely EVERYTHING for it to be full screen at 16:10. They should have done the letterboxing with the other VGA resolutions from the start. It's better than it being stretched.

It's alright on my 24" that doesn't have internal scaling, but 1920x1200 could have been thrown in this update tbh

I've always been annoyed that my 16:10 screen stretched the image. The update just centered the image with black bars instead of stretching a 720p image. Therefore, for me, it looks great. It would have been cool to utilize that extra space for actual gameplay, but that would have required a lot more than just a console update, I would imagine. The image should actually look better, because the screen is no longer vertically stretching the pixels.

I like the menu layout, as well.

This. I can give up 1cm of screen off of the top and bottom of the screen for everything to look much better.

I was hoping that you could instantly close the pop-up menu for when you're ingame though, instead of having to wait for it to load everything still. When you're in a party at the dashboard you should be able to see little speakers above everyone's heads when they talk though, because to me everyone sounds the same and I don't know who's talking :|. But overall I really like it, looks much cleaner than the older one.

Funny, I can recognize your voice quite easily out of a batch of nerdy Americans :v:

Also, I've had one freeze that didn't go away until I restarted.

And in one really odd effect Halo 2 campaign maps loaded significantly faster but I couldn't get multiplayer maps to load at all :S

Just tested the NXE today. UI is impressive, but I have two pretty big complaints.

- Lost my Dolby Digital, which as an audio guy, pisses me off to no end.
- 1680 x 1050 is ass. Not the letterboxing, that made the scaling much better, it's just the ppi for some of the interfaces. Some things look as blocky as they were on 1280 x 720.

Other than that, I really like it. The guide during a game isn't a laggy pile of shit anymore, and I was finally able to get rid of all those damn arcade games from my list.

My point (which I began to forget) is why stick with defaults like that? When its that necessary you kinda have no choice.

uhhh really? A 120GB HDD here is $200, i'd rather work 20 hours for something else other than more space. 20GB is enough for most people who don't have their music on their xbox, or download every demo because they can.

Insert disc, go to Games Library, select the disc game, then select "Install to Hard Drive."

Keep in mind that all that does is speed up load times with games that load things from the disc directly into RAM (Halo 3 caches maps to the 360's utility partition, which is why DLC takes so fucking long to load). You still need the disc to boot the game.

A message from Bungie popped up the first time I played Halo 3 after the update, telling me that I shouldn't install Halo 3 onto the drive, because it would cause slowdown of everything, since the game was optimized to run from the disk.

Also, someone messed with my avatar, gotta change it back.

TBH, I really want my old xbox "experience" back. Kinda like how I felt when I first started using office 2007

I just want the old Xbox guide that didn't take 15 minutes to load back :|

Wtf. Why does yours take so long? This one is so much faster than the older one for me.

It's pretty sporadic. Sometimes it's faster, other times it's much much slower.
