is it for gaming or is it an actual entertainment room computer for you to play movies on?

because if it's the latter i'd downgrade a couple of the parts for quality speakers.

is it worth it purchasing vista 64 bit over 32 bit?
I would say its only worth it if you are going to have more than 3Gb ram; by the looks of it your not.

Speakers are the most overlooked area of an entertainment system when really, they make everything come alive. I'd take a 19" TV with a killer sound system over a 62" LCD with built in speakers any day

That seems a little extreme. It's impractical to even have such a set up but I see your point.

If you're not going to be gaming much I'd say go with the HD 4670 or if you're trying to balance gaming with other media, then the HD 4830 is the way to go. Yes, they maybe be crapped out HD 4850s but benchmarks show most are not more than 10% slower than the HD 4850. At this stage of the game, screw nVidia. They make large, power hungry, loud, inefficient GPUs.

What will you be doing with such amperage on your PSU? Settle for a nice Cheap OCZ GamerXstream 600W PSU.

Quotin dis.

If this rig is going to be your new Crysis dev box, go for 4GB of ram, a lower wattage PSU, and a GTX 260 core 216. It ties and sometimes outperforms the 1GB 4870 now.

If it's just for playing some games and more for movies / internet, Amit's mention of the 4670 or 4830 would be fine.

The only thing about having a Bluray drive in a computer\entertainment center is that you have to have a playback device. The one that came with mine (CyberLink) SUCKED ASS. You could only play 5 Bluray dvds before it expired and you have to buy the the "pro" version for $90. I ended up buying WinDVD plus Bluray for $60. It works wonderfull and has great quality.

Just keep in mind that youll have to buy your HD playback.

Only gaming i'll be doing on it for now is stress testing for mwll, besides that it'll be 3ds max and less demanding older games. I think I'm going to go with the gtx 260 then. Also 4 gigs sounds good, ram is cheap as fuck right now and it'll be nice to finally be able to open my sub'd max scenes all at once.

Get rid of that "coolmax" PSU bro! Throw a Corsair or OCZ in it.

To be honest, you don't need a GTX 260 or above unless you plan to play Crysis at 1920x1080 with everything turned on, basically. If you cut it down to something like the HD 4870 you can also cut down your PSU to 550W or a nice OCZ GameXstream 600W

I'm getting the GTX 260. I know how crysis plays, that's not the issue. It's more for my 3d work.

Would a GTX 260 make a difference in 3D work over something like an HD 4850?

This is just a personal preference, but I'd stick with an ATi card for an entertainment console, because they've been hooking up TVs to computers longer than nVidia. All-In-Wonder cards anyone? The decoding quality is also a little better than on nVidia's equivalents.

No longer an entertainment center, we got that set up already. Now I'm planning on purchasing a new pc.

If it's now just a PC, just go to Xet's thread that's stickied. His thread (from what I can tell) has the best possible options for the prices.

I'm updating everything in a few days, wait until I do that.

Yeah, but you of all people should know ATI always has better image quality and probably still has better options for video decoding/HDCP and shit like that. Probably a better option for mech.
