You know, if you get the RRoD, you can send your Xbox to Microsoft for free anyway, warranty or not. Which I would be doing if mine weren't PAL in an NTSC region.
Warranties are for chumps.

Warranties are for people like me who get them for half price because they're an employee at an electronics retailer. When I'm getting $105 Monster cables for $36 can afford to throw some money on a 3 year warranty. I see these things buddie, I know that the RRoD issue is completely covered by Microsoft, how about other issues that may arise? Didn't think of that did you.
Question: I have two Ethernet ports on my PC, I have one connected to a router which is in turn connected to a cable modem for my Internet connection. Can I use the other Ethernet port to connect my 360 to and access live? I know it's connection sharing/bridging, could someone post a quick guide though, I don't know a lot about it.
E: Never mind, select both connections, right-click, select "bridge connections".

You can, I did that for a while by having my internet going through a wireless PCI card and the xbox plugged into my motherboard's ethernet port. iirc all you need to do is connect them in, select both of the connections, right click and click bridge connections. Good luck getting your NAT type open though, searching on google just told me it wasn't possible, but after doing something I can't remember it worked.
Tutorial for bridging it here: http://www.adamsdvds.co.uk/blog/wordpress/2007/11/23/connecting-xbox-360-to-xbox-live-via-vista-using-ics/
E: Also, why can't you just plug your xbox straight into the router? I couldn't because my parents would kill me if I drilled a hole in my floor and through the roof below it to get a cable through ;p

I could connect a cable directly to the router, but the router is downstairs in a room over from this one. It took me at least 5 hours to get the 'fishing line' (thing for pulling wires through walls and shit) down through the cold air ducts and neat to my router, I'm not about to do that again.
Yea, I edited my post, should have just tried bridging before posting the question to be honest.
Xbox Live names now, go.

No, because I generally don't drop my Xbox or other retarded lapses of judgment that result in putting the warranty to use.
The general malfunctioning problems (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems) that most people have with their Three Shitties are either easily fixable right at home or they can send them in to Microsoft, free of charge, to fix.

Microsoft doesn't cover power surges, accessories, or guarantee a replacement system.
Stop talking about things you don't have all the information about.

Sounds like my setup that goes underneath the house for the xbox now - snaking underneath a house with a fishing rod so you can poke a cable 5m through a small hand hole isn't fun :p

They don't need to if the consumer is careful. Use a surge protector, don't buy bad quality accessories, and don't be an idiot around your expensive, fragile piece of technology and you don't need a warranty.

Uh what? I'm making a new gamertag cause I have a free 1 month gold thingy... I don't want my GFW account anyways.
E: Whatever, I can use Freelancer852 instead of Xero852...
E E: Okay, I recovered... Maybe I can get the free live thingy still... I'll be buying one eventually anyways.
E E E: Lost my live for a month thing... It must only be for new subscriptions.

Search for them. And we actually give you a 10% discount on all used items and accessories. We also give you 10% towards any games you trade in increasing the money you get. We even offer our own warranties on all used systems, and you have 7 days to return all used games and accessories for full refund or to trade something in. I'm also pretty sure we're the only gamestore that gives you money for your games and store credit for them too. You can basically trade in games and get new ones without ever spending a dime out of your wallet really.

When I'm getting $105 Monster cables for $36 can afford to throw some money on a 3 year warranty. Which performs identically to a 20$ Belkin/Philips HDMI (Or digital audio in your case...) Cable... (Or even cheaper 10$ cables but you'll have a hard time finding those)
***Explaination:***
Since HDMI (/digital audio), by definition, is a digital signal... everything's transmitted as ones and zereos. As long as you don't get enough interference to mistake the two... 100% signal strength. Getting better cables beyond that... no benefit as your TV still knows what each and every 1 and 0 is.
If you get blocky/juttery/artifacts... replace your cable, it's defective. Otherwise? Perfect signal quality.
******
But yeah... you kinda wasted your money there... actually on both the cable and the warranty.
Actually it's funny because our store is beginning to carry gold-plated Fibre-optic audio cables... ... seriously, gold plated. The signal doesn't even go through the gold o.O It's just a laserbeam through a dielectric waveguide. Gold isn't even transparent >_>
Yea... I'll go to a store that I don't get discounts at and buy it for more... Kay... Also, I live in Canada my friend there are very few if no GameStops here. They (edit: Also) go by EB Games (/Electronics Boutique) here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronics_Boutique)...

It's EB games here.

Don't show up here and expect everyone other than you to be kicking their stuff around. Mostly everyone understand that this shit is expensive.

The games trade in policy is kind of bullshit unless you have shit games to begin with.

Too bad they don't have a Canadian website. Maybe you just mean EB Games since it's basically the same thing with a different name?

At Future Shop we do game trade ins as well. You bring your game in, an employee verifies that it's not scratched or anything (I guess whoever verified my copy of Halo 3 is an idiot) and then gives you the designated amount of money credit for the game. This credit is printed off on a receipt that you can either get a gift card for, or get money back. So no, you're no the only store that gives money for games, we do it as well.
I think you're missing the point still though, I work at Future Shop so I pay cost + 10% of the price on pretty much everything. Unfortunately the cost price on games and consoles is pretty damn close to the retail price (it's a matter of less than $5 really), the only thing that gives you a big discount is accessories and such.
But yeah... you kinda wasted your money there... actually on both the cable and the warranty.
So why is it that on the demo we have setup in our store (that I personally helped setup) for Monster cables, HDMI specifically, proves you wrong? We have two identical TV's and two identical Blu-Ray players setup, one is using a high quality Monster Cable, the other is using a Rocket Fish cable. The Monster Cable setup displays perfectly, the Rocket Fish setup doesn't display anything frmo the Blu-Ray player because the "quality of the cable is to low" (or a similar message is displayed on the screen). This display isn't rigged in any way, we opened NEW TV's, Blu-Ray players, and cables to set all of this up.
Explain.

Explain. How many people handled the cables between you and the manufacturer?
We hook up TVs here with 15$ HDMI cables all the time, no problems what so ever on any setup we had. Also, did you try switching cables while leaving the bluray and TV untouched?
And you may have also been part of the statistic that had a defective cable. Those are under warranty and you can exchange them.
Often people complain about colour banding (Wiki article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colour_banding)) as a result of having too little interference to bleed the colours into smooth gradients (because digital cables don't bleed colours... just have visual artifacts). If you get colour banding... a better cable ain't gonna help you.

Yeah, switch the "Bad" cable with another cable... if it still gives an error message... switch that cable to the Monster Cable and see if it *still* errors.
The other HDMI cable manufacturers wouldn't sell cables they knew wouldn't work o.O They'd lose so much money in return-credits.
Also, why would Monster *pay* for the TVs and BluRay players... but *give* you the specific cables? If they spent X amount on the TVs, why wouldn't they just add an extra 15$ and say "buy whatever cheap cable you got"

November 30th, 2008, 03:26 PM
Did you actually check the connections ont he back of the TVs? I went into a Best Buy once and they had the same type of comparison display. They compared HD with HDMI Monster Cables to "HD" with a coaxial cable.
Also, what Phopo said about color and the same TVs.
Oh, and make sure the HDMI cable is designed for whatever version the signal is being sent as. There's a difference between 1.0 and 1.3.
Digital is digital. You can't screw up the signal. Loss of the signal is loss of data, and so you lose the actual picture, not quality.
Monster is one of the biggest scams in business.

Monster is known to rig tests. You can't trust their comparison cable- buy a real cable and try it out yourself.

So I tried swapping the "bad" cable monster sent us for one that came back as a return today. It was a $20 or $30 cable and the message still said to use a higher quality cable... Didn't think of trying the Monster Cable on the other setup at the time but I'll try it next time I go into work.
I know of the scam setup that you're talking about Jcap, and Future Shop stopped using those for exactly that reason. It's part of the reason that Monster paid for the TV's and Blu-Ray players and didn't send them to us, they don't want to be accused of rigging the display.
