Fallout 3 is the most piece of shit retarded robotic un immersive money grab I've seen in a long time. Terrible acting, terrible AI, terrible graphics and textures, crashes every 15 fucking minutes.
I'm realy stunned how bad Fallout 3 is, but I'm even more stunned as to why it's getting to much attention. It's obilivion and bioshock mixed together, also bundled with the fucking up of everything that's good about fps.
If fallout 3 was made by any other studio, it would have been a good game. Absolutely poor presentation all over. I do not understand the fucking deal.
Far Cry 2 is the best game I've played in years. Simply amazing. The most open ended game I've ever played. I watched 4 of my friends get killed and I could have stopped it, and thus the entire game changed course, and before I even got to that situation I could have chosen not to even work for those bad guys who killed them, and they possibly never would have faced danger. Shit If I chose a different character to start with, that whole series of events may not ever have happened at all.
Every single thing you do affects something. This game is possibly the biggest prime example of Chaos Theory I've ever seen.
I got my aviation guy killed, therefore a mission that would have helped with a plane had to be done by boat, which resulted in getting another buddy killed, which resulted in a mission where I rerouted a water pipeline into a dam via explosives, which flooded a gold mine which then inturn both destroyed all the hopes of ever doing a mission there, and also drowned a then unknown, hostage buddy who was being kept in the mine.
get FarCry2 now. NOW.

Is this a fakepost or is your taste actually that screwed up? http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/CN3089/Emoticons/emot-psyduck.gif
e: for anybody reading this who hasn't played either, Fallout 3 is amazing and Far Cry 2 is average at best, go out and buy Fallout 3 asap http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c251/CN3089/Emoticons/emot-toot.gif

I agree 100% with what you said about Fallout 3.
However, Far Cry 2 is Ok in my books. Nothing really special. The Gameplay is very similar to Crysis, that being utterly generic in comparison with other games. The "Chaos Theory" aspect of the game is great, but I couldn't bring myself to carry on playing. It just didn't really entertain me.

Yes, I agree with you completely. First time I saw Fallout 3 gameplay, I cried at the walking animation and the textures. They looked like Time Splitters: Future Perfect on my Gamecube. (Even though that's a damn good game) Far Cry 2 caught my attention, and I want it more than Warhead (which my brother will get eventually). I'm just worried about Securom fucking up my brother's PC. I'm stuck between getting CoD:WaW, or FC2. I only have $30 also, and I'll get Mario Kart Wii for Christmas I guess. What? First Party Nintendo games rock imo.

I liked Fallout 3 for a while, but it got repetitive and the novelty wore off. I've never had it crash, but I heard that it's a problem for some people.
Far Cry 2, however fun it was, just seemed strange to me. It's absolutely fantastic it almost every fashion, but some of the gameplay elements got to me. For example, if I kill everyone at a checkpoint, why in god's name are there completely new soldiers there only an hour later? The game is great, don't get me wrong, but I'm picky.
I just bought Left 4 Dead yesterday...completely amazing. That's all.

I do agree on the checkpoint thing in FC2 with all the guards turning back up there. Most people seem to overlook the game and reload saves to make the game the best possible finish they can, perfect clean sweep, which makes the game pretty much a standard shooter, whereas to get the real deal you have to let things be the way they turn out, let your buddies die, let your environment collapse and let the war take it's course due to your fuck ups. By the end you just feel that you really made an impact, good or bad.
The thing I don't get about Fallout 3 is that it's supposedly an rpg, yet you have to play the thing horribly in 1st person because the 3rd person animations are so fucking nasty to look at. I feel like a camera floating around rather than a person.
When the game presents a realistic presentation, with people and an emotive environment I should not expect 6 headshots before someones "head became crippled", or for people to spurt half assed dialouge at me. Whenever a character even talks, I picture the person in the recording studio reading their lines. It should be transparent not like a robot.
When the curtain falls and the immersive backdrop is seen to be the dodgy coloured piece of celefane it is, you realise the game is just another fucking grind for items that feels like a complete waste of time by the end. Really just a glorified pokemon. FarCry 2 really made me think and reflect about just how much my own life can take indeterminate changes at any moment. I took something away from it, rather than the game taking time away from me and feeling liek a complete fucking sucker at the end.

If you haven't played Oblivion, Fallout 3 is awesome and you'll lose days. Far Cry 2 is great for about six hours until you finish the story, at which point you realise your "choices" had no impact.

I liked neither. Fallout 3 was like Oblivion with guns and a more generic color scheme (dark blobs in a dark blob factory). I feel like Fallout 3 would have been better if it had been done by the original developers. Bethesda taking something like the Fallout series was like giving 3 GTX280's to a homeless person.
Far Cry 2 looked fantastic, but was more grindtastic than WoW (which, admittedly, is impressive). Driving was worse than Crysis; it was so bad that I preferred to walk (not run, because you can't run more than 10 feet without getting tired/getting a screen full of blur), despite the doubling of time-wasting grind. My estimate on the time spent playing was 90% walking/driving, 10% gunfights. It's a problem when the benchmark tool is more fun than the game. Thinking about it, this would have been a decent game if we had the nanosuit. Specifically, the speed function. Maybe then the grind/play ratio would have been more bearable.

I haven't heard any negative comments about Fallout 3 till now. I've heard it's an okay game, but not amazing. As for FarCry2, I haven't heard about at all. I think Fallout3 is generally for people who love to explore levels and don't give a load about plotline. Not sure about FarCry, but judging by Dano I say it's for the opposite group. But who here likes both combined? I really wish there was a game with that....which was why I liked Bioshock and Halo so much....

Havent played Fallout 3. I have FarCry 2, I think its a tad too open, I hate having to drink ages to get to something, if I lose my vehicle I'm fucked and have to walk all the way, or if I die I have to go back to where I started from. I've hardly done any of the missions as I get dying alot, the enemy shotguns can shoot you as good as a sniper, but when I got the shotgun its fucking crap. Gun jamming sounds pretty cool and realistic, its not, it ALWAYS happens if a huge firefight but never when I'm just running around shooting other things.
I bought new weapons now, so I'm gonna do some of the missions now, but Far Cry 2 hasnt wanted me to play it, with other games I cant wait to play it again, but with FC2, I'm not getting that feeling, I'm not wanting to play it that much tbh.
I think one of my friends died and one of them is now missing, but it doesnt say what I gotta do to find them/see if they are alive.

You know what's really pissing me off? Character design in Fallout 3. I havent played it, and plan to eventually to see if i like it or not, but what the fuck, he's got a metal suit on, and HE'S GOT A HELMET ON THAT HAS A SEPARATION RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE OF HIS FACE. I think some d&d nerds got together with some star wars chicks and then their children decided to think up this awful art. Seriously, if you're going to go stylistic, go all the fucking way, don't half ass it and make it 'half realistic'.

Everything I've heard from co-workers and online reviews alike seem to indicate that you're tasteless loony Dane my friend. From personal experience with the game (only played for about 30 minutes) I was able to overlook the minor faults in the game because everything else was downright amazing.
Far Cry 2 doesn't even beat out CoD5 in my books, so I honesty think that you've been hyped up on something or beaten on the head recently.

Fallout 3 fails to me because it's trying to do something that it actually can't do. Bioshock did it well, Far Cry 2 does it well, Mirrors Edge does it well, it's called immersion. Using it's atmosphere and the plot and dialouge to draw you in. Fallout 3 I really do feel like I'm playing a game. I don't like that. I can't stay serious while I'm playing it. Since the story in such a massive game is such an integral part, I just get the shits when a character delivers lines rather than emotions. I feel like I should just dev cheat the items and save me some fucking time.
I'm incredibly passionate about FC2, so of course I'm biased, but after playing Far Cry 2, Fallout 3 seems like such a wank. Trust me, I still try to play it, give it a good shake, but when it's not crashing, I'm underwhelmed and feeling cheesed.
I dunno, Far Cry 2 to me is one of the best games I've ever played. Sits alongside Max Payne, Abe's Oddysee, Majoras Mask and the soon to be Alan Wake in my books. I guess I'm a big atmosphere and story sort of person, and maybe I've just had enough of grinding for stats.
I just hate grind games that try to involve you, when really behind the scenes it's still all about raping your time for useless item whoring, when the items don't feel or act cool anyway, so whats the fucking point. The first hour of Fallout 3 was probably the worst. The game only really picked up in interest to me when I discovered the visceral amount of gore. But when coupled with the nature of the game, it's still just a novelty that wears off.
At least with Oblivion there were glowing purple swords and shiny green katanas. Fallout 3 is just grinding to unlock some shitty rusty guns that animate poorly, then to use the fucking VATS thing (which you all use, don't fucking lie) to pretty much aimbot your way to victory, to unlock more rusty guns, and up stats that allow you to continue this cycle. Wow.
Also as a side note, anyone complaining about travel in Far Cry 2 is a pure idiot.
You can use the buses to cross to the other bus stations across the whole land, and couple that with stealing a jeep from the station you arrive at, you can get anywhere you need to efficiently. I like travelling anyway, I always run into something interesting. Besides, travel should be tedious at times, like it allways is.
It makes the missions success much more paramount, I notice I focus alot more in Far Cry 2, I feel that death is way more consequential, rather than a simple respawn. I however haven't loaded back a save to undo a certain event yet, so that's just my opinion. I believe with this game you have to take things as they come, kind of adds to the pressure that you really could fuck everything up for everyone, and I like that. I really feel the need to plan things out.
Most of the time I ditch my vehicle anyway and head into a place on foot.
Oh and if you complain about gun jamming, stop picking up rusty fucking guns. Stock up on fresh equipment.

Malaria is a pain in the butt :(
Fallout 3 was alright when turning on god mode and shooting everything with that "Fat man" mini-nuke, but other than that, meh.

I can't see anybody who bothered to do exploring in Fallout 3 complaining about traveling time. Besides, Buses to me seem a bit better to me than fast travel, even though the bus stations seem to be empty. Most of my complaints with Farcry 2 are minor, like I get frustrated I have to go back 15 min worth of gameplay after getting crushed by enemy jeeps constantly. I don't like Fallout 3's combat, real time just seems cringe worthy with most of the crappy animations and VATS is inaccurate at low levels.

A lot of games lately have been disappointing. I guess I won't get Fallout now. I want to get Far Cry but I just got L4D and love it...
