Hey guys i've got to DVDs with some school videos on them that are in the normal format for playing on a dvd player. I need to merge these by any means so they can be dumped onto the one DVD (combined the videos are less than 2GB), along with a bunch of photos so they can be copied around 100 times and distro'd out to parents to watch on their home computers. Anyone have any ideas on how I could go about this? I figured there must be away to convert them to avi or mp4 so they can be put onto the one disc, but googling for it has turned up nothing - probably because 99% of people would be converting DVDs that they're not supposed to ;)

There are a number of free, legal DVD rippers out there (as in, burn them to a disk and then go backwards). On Linux, I use an app called dvd::rip (It's written in perl, that's where the name comes from...).

Though, wow... I can't find any for Windows... that's odd...

You can try using a program called ConvertXtoDVD (google it for a trial). Just pop the DVD into your DVD drive, open up the program, select Actions>Convert and navigate to the Video_TS.IFO file on the DVD. It should convert to .AVI if I'm not mistaking.

Remember, you can always change where it says AVI in the URL's to MP4 if you prefer.

Google Videora iPod Converter. It gives you a link to a DVD decrypter which can extract certain video files with a lot of options.
Then you convert it to mp4 using the Videora converter, with a wide range of settings (Height and width of video, bitrate, etc.).
