Ok, heres my problem. Every time I play Halo, I can't get my resolution any higher than 640x480 because I'll get a very awful framerate. Does anybody seen to know why is this happening?

Yup. Your graphics card is balls and doesn't have the power to support anything beyond that.
Or maybe there's a more intricate problem. Computer specs?

OH GOD THAT CARD IS OLDER THAN MY GREAT-GRANDMOTHER
AND SHE'S DEAD
Is it an integrated chip, and do you have any available AGP/PCI-E ports available? If you're planning on doing any kind of video gaming, you're going to need something more powerful.
For AGP, you can go as high as the GeForce 7900, or a couple of ATI cards. With PCI-E, you'll have a lot more choice. But that depends on your computer.

Either get a job or ask your parents for money. Seriously, $30 shouldn't be that hard to get.

Get an ATI Radeon card. My computer's RAM sucks and it runs Halo perfectly fine at 860, sometimes 1046 (mainly for Halo PC). The only explanation could be my graphics card.

Lol, I got a Nvidea 5200 GeForce FX and can run 800 x 600 at an acceptable speed in multiplayer. check for driver updates to move up a notch? I had to, and man it was a difference.

The best AGP card you're probably gonna be able to get is an ATi Radeon HD 3850 but it may be overpriced, as is with most AGP cards these days that are higher up the main GPU line. With that relatively recent (2 years) CPU I'd assume he has a PCI-E slot. You can get good video cards for running Halo and other games around the $50-100 mark. I'm running a Radeon X1600 PRO256mb PCI-E right now and it can play the Lord of the Rings Online with most of the setting set to ultra high or very high. COD 4 works great with a specialized performance config that I use. It probably goes for around $30-60 if it's still sold. Geforce 7600GT is a solid video card as well but you might as well save up and buy a really good video card like the Radeon HD 4850 for about $169.

I have the same card but with 512mb built in. I can run crysis on medium-high settings. Nuff said.

2600 pro sucks, consider it equal to or slower than a 8600GT depending on the game (GTS is even better still)

It wouldn't have trouble with an old game like halo though.

heh, i don't have any problems with running most games at 1920x1200 with my ati 2600xt 512mb. only game to date to actually give me any problems is crysis, which runs perfectly fine on medium-high settings mixed.
