So, hopefully we will be traveling to alot of different places soon after winter break and my Mom wants me to get a laptop so I can be more portable. I want one that can do all of my modding so I can do that while I'm on planes and what I'm doing doesn't require the intertubes. Does anyone have an idea for a decent <1500 that can do modding, games, but is still a laptop? (don't care about size as long as its not A FUCKING MONITOR SIZED BRICK)

Lol, that's the one I was wanting to get. That one or the one that's 1080p with a BD-drive.

Looks good. It also looks almost too good to be true. The reviews seem decent. The following review rated it 3 out of 5 stars but the points seem to be valid. It's worth noting that the huge majority of people rated this laptop 5 stars.

Pros: Well, I bought this laptop to replace my old laptop...
-WSXGA screen
-4gb Ram
-64bit os
-Fast hard drive
-Beedy video card
-Full size keyboard?
-Can game

Cons: Where do I start?
-Size, really, for the size of this unit, I would expect to see a larger screen! The overall size of the unit is HUGE! I can set this down on top of another 15.4" laptop and you can not see the laptop under it!
-Screen hinges, they need to be stronger, with the excess plastic on this unit, the additional weight over powers the hinges.
-Built materials-I thought for the money spent the unit should have been built of something other then cheap feeling plastic.
-The extra software Asus packs in...there is really a lot of junk they package with. I tried to remove as much as I could, in the end, I did a fresh format...
-Lack of manually controlling the fans
-Short power cord
-LCD inverter generates a lot of heat(none of my other laptops where noticable)
-Video card generates a lot of heat (very uncomfortably hot
-Lack of DVI port
-Doesn't fit in my laptop bag rated up to 17" units?
-Feels like a riced out Honda of laptops?

Other Thoughts: Over the years, I have owned a few laptops. This one, gives me mixed feelings. The biggest reasons I bought this unit was the screen, and the video card. Both are superb. The overall size of the unit, and the fact its over sized and made of a lot of plastic is a downer. The hinges on the screen feel weak. I hope they last. I also don't like the thickness of the unit. Playing a FPS game and using the wasd keys for movement, you need to prop up your arm so you don't strain your wrist.

Right now, I am kinda middle of the road on this unit. For the size I would expect more features. It is HUGE HUGE HUGE.

With the extra lights and jazz, I think this is a laptop you could possibly find in a Fast and the Furious movie. For the price, I am not sure if its a fair deal. A lot of money was spent for the list of cons I have IMO. I did a lot of research before I bought this unit, they seem like solid units.

It is a brick yea, but its not as much of a brick as the toshiba X205.
With that hardware I'd be surprised if it was any smaller.
