View Full Version : explorer.exe wants to sleep... SO DO I!

I have Nortan Anti-Virus 2009. A few minutes ago it told me it had blocked two or three attacks. But explorer.exe closed randomly, (I think, I wasn't paying attention)

Now explorer.exe is opening and closing, it seems like it is trying to open but something is stopping it.

Running Windows XP, with Service Pack 3, and using WindowsBlinds.

Here are the stages of evens which happen:

1. explorer.exe is closed
2. explorer.exe loads and displays taskbar with running programs along the bottom.
3. Stays open for roughly 13 seconds including loading time.
4. Closes down

(Loops continuously)

I might be able to get you a virus log from Nortan, if someone can tell me how.

And here are the programs running:
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g268/martynball/uhoh-1.jpg

What is wrong...

Oh and anyone know how to get rid of that iexplorer.exe ad popup virus thing? Lol

Reply soon as you can please, I want to go bed as it is late but I am not turning my PC of in case it does not come back on Lol.

That's what you get for going on porn xD

Your best bet is to throw down a HiJackThis log into a parser and see what it says about the processes running. Dunno why Explorer keeps crashing though.

Actually, I got it after I tried to visit Modacity. I was trying to access the site but it was down like usual, and out of nowhere, the page changes to virusremover2008. I started getting spammed with all these pop ups about Southern Asia (wtf?) and a command prompt comes up with "winvsnet.exe" in the title bar. After that, explorer kept closing and restarting. Then I did a system restore and eveything was fine.

Not trying to blame this on Modacity, most likely just a weird coinicidence, but could any of the "attacks" on this site caused this? Most likely not...

At this point your computer is too fucked up to fix.

Reinstall Windows, it is the ONLY way...

Regardless of what anyone else tells you... it is too fucked up... you can *never* be sure that you're virus free unless you reinstall from a trusted source (IE: Windows Disk)

The days of manually cleaning malware are over.

Use Linux live cd, get all the files on to your pen drive.

That's if you have a Linux disk or another computer to get it.

Got hold of a Linux Live CD. I couldnt get it to connect or find my harddrive. My mum said she will buy another harddrive after xmas so I can get my files of the infected one then.

So I will be back ;) Thank god I have got my phone. I would have no online support overwisw lol.

Edit:
Whoooo, borrowed my sisters laptop and managed to make it use the desktop monitor because she is an idiot and cracked the laptop screen when pushing it backwards, how do you that? Lol.

Hooked up my mouse and keyboard as well. Sprted until after xmas... well, with the internet.
