View Full Version : Well...shit. There goes my WoW account.

Multiple crappy things have been happening to me.
First off, I can't use my main computer, which has all my games, 3ds, movies, and any actual gaming chip.
Second, I found out there's a keylogger on this crappy laptop I've been using instead.
Third, I panicked and changed my WoW password, and now I can't remember the password, and since my phone number has changed and I have no idea how I spelled my mother's maiden name when I started playing WoW, I can't even recover it.
Soo...yeah. First my runescape account that I spent a good 5 years ago is hacked and deleted, and now my world of warcraft account is as good as gone.
Long story short?
Fuck you, keyloggers. :)
You just made my day. And possibly a whole year, as well.

ask your mother how to spell her maiden name mb?

First off, my parents are divorced, and she now lives about 3 hours away; second, that doesn't tell me how I spelled it when I made my account.
I think I'm going to try calling Blizzard if I can't get it right after a while.

I think you should be trying to recover your soul instead of your password =D.
try guessing your mothers maiden name. Doesn't hurt, right?

Don't download shit with keyloggers in them/scan stuff before opening it mb?

I didn't download anything, that's what's bothering me; I'm going to check my logs later to see of perhaps I clicked on a bad link or something.
I blame H2V and the links there >:(

how do you know you had a keylogger on your system?
That's the stupidest part of this.
It installed an icon. In the running programs, there was a new icon called "[something]family keylogger".
Btw, if anybody wants to know...it's actually a file called ctfmon.dll; I got some info on it by googling.

Meh, I gave up on runescape a year ago; it was just that somebody had bothered to hack it was an insult.
Also...I play a variety of games besides WoW <_<;
Age of Empires II, Conquers expansion, III, Halo, Half-life 2, Half-life, counter-strike, halo custom edition, and I'm thinking of trying Team Fortress when I get my computer back. <_<
So yeah. A healthy balance of games, certain to stop me from ever having an outside life. :P

Question, what level were you on WoW
There is some rogue dll's that do key log that are called ctfmon. However if you see it don't instantly scream key logger, because Microsoft word uses ctfmon for some thing to do with management of the program.

Tell us where exactly the evil ctfmon is. If it isn't in a windows system folder then its likely that that is the keylogger and you can remove it with Avast or Spybot.

Honestly, I'm happy for you. No more WoW. Team Fortress isn't that great anymore though, as 60% of servers are populated by bots =|

Many people that I know got into Wow, and now that's all they talk about. It gets annoying. If you want to try some new games, I suggest Supreme Commander. It's a really good RTS, but you need a good computer for it.

Isn't ctfmon some Office component, or is it just pretending to be one? Thought I read that it was somewhere...
Either way, I always kill it through task manager before I fire up any games...

Thats ctfmon.exe, ctfmon.dll is a "Family Key logger"... There is tons of Malware out there that acts like common stuff, like processes named "svchost.exe" that really arn't that.

And as soon as my dad can contact Blizz, I'll have my account back.
In the mean time, I play "guess what my account info is"...I'm up to 112 different possibilities x_x
